A system for managing reduced pressure to a wound site includes a wound enclosure configured to form a substantially sealed volume around the wound site, a first closed volume, a second closed volume, and a controller. The first closed volume includes a primary pressure source and a canister fluidly coupled to the primary pressure source. The first closed volume is configured to apply reduced pressure to the wound site and deliver exudate collected from the wound site to the canister through a first lumen. The second closed volume includes a secondary pressure source and is configured to apply a secondary pressure to the wound site through a second lumen to facilitate flow of the exudate from the wound site to the canister through the first lumen. The controller is configured to communicate with at least the second closed volume for selectively applying the secondary pressure to the wound site.

A percutaneous urinary catheter configured to be deployed in a urinary tract, including: (a) a proximal portion; and (b) a distal portion including a retention portion configured to be deployed in a kidney and/or a renal pelvis, the retention portion including one or more drainage holes leading to one or more lumen(s) within the proximal portion, wherein the retention portion, when deployed, defines a three-dimensional shape sized and positioned to maintain patency of fluid flow between the kidney and/or renal pelvis and a proximal end of the catheter by inhibiting mucosal tissue from appreciably occluding the one or more drainage holes when negative pressure is applied through the catheter. 2. The percutaneous urinary catheter of claim 1 , wherein the retention portion is configured to retain at least the distal portion of the catheter within the kidney and/or renal pelvis.3. The percutaneous urinary catheter of claim 1 , wherein a maximum outer diameter of the retention portion is greater than a diameter of a drainage lumen of the catheter.4. The percutaneous urinary catheter of claim 1 , wherein an area of a two-dimensional slice of the three-dimensional shape in a plane transverse to a central axis of the retention portion is greater than another slice of the three-dimensional shape in a plane transverse to a central axis of the retention portion towards a distal end of the retention portion.5. The percutaneous urinary catheter of claim 1 , wherein a maximum cross-sectional area of a two-dimensional slice of the three-dimensional shape in a plane transverse to a central axis of the retention portion is less than or equal to about 500 mm.6. A pump generates a vacuum at a wound site via first tubing. A negative pressure circuit is defined by a canister, the first tubing and the wound site. A controller of a therapy device operates the pump to apply a first negative pressure to the entirety of the negative pressure circuit, following which ambient air is allowed to flow into the negative pressure circuit. The controller also operates the pump to apply a second negative pressure to a selected portion of the negative pressure circuit exclusive of the wound site, following which ambient air is allowed to flow into the selected portion. The invention also provides a system for applying a sub-atmospheric pressure to a wound dressing on a patient using devices and apparatus of the invention and methods of treatment of wounds using such apparatus, devices and systems of the invention.

A suction catheter system is described with a suction extension interfaced with a guide catheter to form a continuous suction lumen extending through a portion of the guide catheter and through the suction extension. The suction extension can be positioned by tracking the suction nozzle through a vessel while moving a proximal portion of the suction extension within the lumen of the guide catheter. The suction extension can comprise a connecting section with a non-circular cross section for interfacing with the inner lumen of an engagement section of the guide catheter. The tubular body of the guide catheter can have a reduced diameter distal section the can be useful to restrain the movement of the suction extension. Proximal fittings attached to the guide catheter can facilitate safe removal of the catheter system from the patient by allowing for the removal of some or all of a tubular extension of the suction extension from the guide catheter behind a hemostatic seal. Pressure sensors connected to the proximal fittings can help to guide the procedures with reduced risk of embolizing thrombus.

Embodiments of negative pressure wound therapy systems and methods are disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a driving circuit that supplies a driving signal to a negative pressure source to cause the negative pressure source to provide negative pressure via a fluid flow path to a wound dressing. The apparatus furthers include a controller that adjusts a frequency of the driving signal supplied by the driving circuit according to a comparison of a previous magnitude and a subsequent magnitude of the driving signal while the negative pressure source provides negative pressure. The transfer of power to the negative pressure source can thereby be tuned to maximize an amount of power transferred to the negative pressure source.

A system for aspirating fluids from a body by means of negative pressure has: a drainage line for removing the fluid from the body, a fluid collection container connected to the drainage line and used to collect the aspirated fluid, a pump by which the negative pressure used to aspirate the fluid is generated in the drainage line, and an auxiliary line whose end near the body is in fluidic communication with an end, near the body, of the drainage line. In the system, a closed circuit is present or can be generated which interconnects this pump, the auxiliary line, the drainage line and the fluid collection container and through which air or a liquid can be pumped. This system prevents and removes obstructions in the drainage line and also permits a relatively accurate measurement of the negative pressure in the body cavity.
