The reservoir filling aid comprises a main body for supporting the reservoir during the filling of the reservoir with a medical serum and a supply vial adapter end positioned at a first end of the main body. The supply vial adapter end comprises a plurality of flexible tabs extending from the supply vial adapter end for interfacing with a supply vial containing the medical serum and a shaped ring for housing the plurality of flexible tabs and the supply vial while in a closed configuration to establish a fluid connection between the supply vial and the reservoir. The interior of the supply vial adapter end may also have a spiral track for additional security. A removable adapter may be fitted on the top of small supply vials.

Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) may be prevented in a patient, or its occurrence reduced in a population of patients, by using an anti-VAP device or an anti-VAP material such as an anti-VAP mouthpiece that absorbs secretions. By reducing the problem of bacterial-containing secretions that otherwise build up in the airway of, and elsewhere in, the intubated patient, VAP can be prevented from occurring in intubated patients, such as patients intubated with an endotracheal tube (ETT) or a nasogastric tube. Anti-VAP mouthpieces also are useable in non-intubated patients to maintain oral hygiene.

The embodiments of the present tracheostomy valves include a flexible diaphragm abutting a rib shaped substantially as a flat plate. Opposite the rib, the diaphragm abuts a boss and forms an uninterrupted seal therewith. As the tracheostomized patient inhales, the diaphragm bends about the rib, interrupting the seal and allowing air to flow smoothly into the valve. A system, apparatus and methods are provided for extra-corporeal blood treatment, and in particular for establishing and maintaining a neck down differential body temperature, while maintaining near normal brain temperatures, to protect the brain from extended or extreme hypothermia or hyperthermia. A blood treatment apparatus and system is provided for differential control of brain temperature and body temperature below the neck. For example, a first bypass circuit with heat exchanger for brain blood circulation maintains a near normal blood temperature, while a second bypass circuit for below the neck blood circulation provides for thermal treatment to induce a temperature differential, e.g. hyperthermia or hypothermia, relative to brain circulation. Such systems and apparatus have application, for example, for diagnostic and therapeutic treatments using hyperthermia, particularly for treatments of extended duration or at elevated temperatures above 42° C., for example, hyperthermia for treatment of cancer, infectious bacterial or viral diseases.

An external pressure is applied repeatedly to the arteriovascular section in synchronization with the occurrence of the determined maximum.

A pinch clamp assembly for engaging a tube ( 10 ) with an enteral feeding or infusion pump adapted to feed nutritionals or to infuse medical solutions to a patient, is provided comprising a base ( 1 ) comprising holding means ( 3 ) for holding a tube ( 10 ) in operative engagement with the base ( 1 ), a first clamping surface ( 4 ) and supporting means ( 5 ) for supporting a connector ( 6 ), a clamping element ( 7 ) having a second clamping surface ( 8 ) engageable with the tube ( 10 ) and moveable between an open position allowing flow of fluid through the tube ( 10 ) and a closed position wherein the tube ( 10 ) is occluded by the clamping element ( 7 ), a connector ( 6 ) for connecting the tube with a port on a patient, the connector ( 6 ) being removable from the pinch clamp assembly, and a spring ( 12 ), wherein the connector ( 6 ) is adapted to engage with the clamping element ( 7 ) so as to hold the clamping element ( 7 ) in the open position, wherein the clamping element ( 7 ) is forced from the open to the closed position by the force of the spring ( 12 ) as soon as the connector ( 6 ) is removed from the assembly, and wherein the clamping element ( 7 ) is adapted to be moved from the closed to the open position when the pinch clamp assembly is mounted to the enteral feeding or infusion pump and the connector ( 6 ) is removed.

The devices may include a measurement chamber, a combination of pressure regulators and a sequencing mechanism that controls valves associated with the pressure regulators. A method is disclosed of applying a radiopaque marker to a cannula for use with an intracardiac pump, the method including: obtaining a band of radiopaque polymer material; placing the band around an outer diameter of the cannula, the cannula including a flexible tubular wall formed around and supported by a coil of shape memory material; placing a heat shrink tube around the band and the cannula; heating the band and the polymer tube to: soften the band, cause the heat shrink tube to shrink and apply force on the softened band towards the cannula, and cause the softened band to be welded to the cannula to form a radiopaque marker in a portion of the tubular wall; and removing the heat shrink tube.
