The present invention is directed to a dilator having a stiffened shaft for use as part of an introducer sheath assembly. The dilator includes a stiffener tube and a tip of the dilator which extends distally to the dilator stiffener tube. The transition between the stiffener tube and the tip of the dilator is positioned such that when the dilator is positioned within the catheter sheath, the transition is also positioned within the catheter sheath. By positioning the transition between the stiffener tube of the dilator and the tip of the dilator inside the catheter sheath, the catheter sheath can provide strain relief subsequent to lateral movement of the tip of the dilator in a manner that can prevent kinking of the dilator tip at the transition between the stiffener tip and the tip of the dilator. 1. Multi-Lumen Intravascular Catheters with inner Converging Lumens for Multiple Guidewire Control

Номер: US20220040447A1
Автор: Mark W. Mewissen
Принадлежит: Mekal LLC

Catheter systems with multiple inner lumens that converge at the catheter distal tip are preloaded with at least two guidewires. The catheters offers sequential probing with two or more guidewires, therefore improving on procedural speed and accuracy. The catheters comprise proximal and distal regions enabling angled lumens to merge into a common lumen with a diameter slightly larger to the largest of the two proximal lumens. The confluence of the two proximal lumens comprises a single lumen with a reduced profile and cross sectional area. The lumens merge with the larger lumen at an angle greater than zero degrees, and the distal tip has a diameter equal to the diameter of the smaller proximal lumen. The proximal region serves as a directed passageway for different guidewires that enter the catheter through two proximal lumens and which may be reoriented through a convergence region for sequential exiting of the catheter tip.

A proximal end of the exchange segment is joined with a distal end of the catheter sheath in a lengthwise direction forming an angle therebetween, such that the second lumen is laterally offset by a distance and angled with respect to the first lumen. When the catheter is placed within a patient's anatomy, the catheter sheath and/or the exchange segment straightens out so that the axis of the second lumen and the axis of the first lumen become substantially parallel to each other. The offset distance between the axes of sheath and exchange segment depends mainly on the diameter of the guidewire to be used, on the diameter of the sheath, and the angle of the junction.

Catheter With Embedded Core Wires

Номер: US20210023339A1
Автор: Hayes John Michael
Принадлежит:

A kink-resistance catheter has at least a first pair of core wires residing in the catheter body on opposed side of a catheter lumen. The core wires have relatively stiff proximal ends but taper toward their distal ends. The tapered construction provides the core wires with a degree of distal flexibility that helps the catheter advance along a vasculature to a site of interest without kinking. Moreover, the core wires greatly improve the torsional rigidity of the catheter so that rotation of the catheter's proximal end translates into a substantially equivalent rotation at the distal end. If desired, shaping ribbons are provided in the catheter body adjacent to the distal ends of the core wires. The shaping ribbons can be pre-bent before a surgical procedure to help the physician advance the catheter along the vasculature. Finally, the core wires provide the ability to push the catheter through the vasculature without the need for the catheter to go over a guidewire already in-situ in the vasculature. 1. A catheter , comprising:a) a catheter body comprising an outer wall extending longitudinally from a catheter proximal end to a catheter distal end;b) a first catheter lumen extending through the catheter body to the catheter proximal and distal ends; andc) at least a first core wire residing in the catheter body, wherein the first core wire has a first core wire proximal end disposed adjacent to but spaced from the catheter proximal end and a first core wire distal end disposed adjacent to but spaced from the catheter distal end.2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising monitoring blood pressure within the injured blood vessel via an annular space between the catheter and the sheath before inflating the balloon and after advancing the catheter and/or retracting the sheath to cause the balloon of the catheter to extend beyond the distal end portion of the sheath.4 ...

A catheter tip that provides longitudinal flexibility, pushability and radial rigidity thereby improving deliverability is provided. The catheter tip includes a spring-like element to provide longitudinal flexibility and pushability to the catheter tip. The spring-like element may also provide radial support to the distal edge of the catheter tip. Alternatively, a radially rigid distal end may also be included distal of the spring-like element. The apparatus may be used with any interventional catheter system, but is particularly suitable for use with balloon-expandable stent systems and balloon-angioplasty systems, where flexibility of the catheter tip and minimal flaring of the distal edge of the catheter tip is desirable. 1. A flexible and pushable catheter tip having a proximal end and a distal end , comprising:a longitudinally flexible tube;a spring-like element located inside of said longitudinally flexible tube, said spring-like element and said longitudinally flexible tube extending along a common longitudinal axis of the catheter tip; anda distal end portion located at the distal end of the catheter tip, the distal end portion extending distal of the spring-like element.2. A flexible and pushable catheter tip having a proximal end and a distal end , comprising:a longitudinally flexible tube; anda spring-like element located inside of said longitudinally flexible tube, said spring-like element and said longitudinally flexible tube extending along a common longitudinal axis of the catheter tip, wherein the spring-like element extends to a distal edge of the distal end of the catheter tip.3. The catheter tip of or , wherein said longitudinally flexible tube is a flexible polymer material.4. The catheter tip of claim 3 , wherein said spring-like element is embedded in the flexible polymer material.5. The catheter tip of claim 4 , wherein the flexible polymer material is selected from the group consisting of: block co-polymer claim 4 , polyether block amide (PEBA ...

A catheter has extruded length of tubing and an injection molded tip that facilitates insertion of the catheter into the body. The catheter is fabricated by the steps of providing the tubing, for example, by extruding the tubing from a thermoplastic resin cutting the tubing to the desired length, inserting a plug into the tubing, inserting one end of the tubing into an injection mold cavity, creating and forming a tip in an injection molding step, and demolding the tubing with the formed tip. 1. A catheter , comprising:a length of tubing with an axial lumen defined therein, the lumen having an inside diameter, the tubing terminating at an end;a plug inserted in the lumen a distance sufficient to axially recess the plug from the end of the tubing, at least a portion of the plug having a maximum outside diameter at least as large as the inside diameter of the lumen; anda tip attached to an end of the tubing, the tip including a stubshaft that extends into the lumen and is joined to the plug at a plug-to-tip bond line.2. The catheter of further comprising a hydrophilic coating on the exterior surface of the tubing and tip.3. The catheter of wherein the tubing has an inner wall and an outer wall.4. The catheter of wherein the tubing has an inner wall and an outer wall and further comprising a hydrophilic coating on the exterior surface of the outer wall and tip.5. The catheter of wherein the plug has at least one tapered end.6. The catheter of wherein the tip has an apex at the free end thereof with a depression formed in the apex.7. (canceled)8. (canceled)9. A method of making a catheter claim 1 , comprising the steps of:a) providing tubing having an axial lumen defined therein, the lumen having an inside diameter;b) cutting the tubing to the desired catheter length;c) forming a plug, at least a portion of the plug having an outside diameter at least as large as the inside diameter of the lumen;d) pre-heating the plug;e) inserting the pre-heated plug into the lumen at ...
