Novel dissolution testing system and apparatus with off-center impeller

In the pharmaceutical industry, dissolution testing is a critical step in quality control and a standard method for assessing batch-to-batch consistency of solid oral drug delivery systems, such as tablets. One of the most widely used dissolution test devices is the UPS Apparatus 2 (paddle). At present, dissolution testing remains susceptible to significant error and test failures. Previous studies indicate that poor reproducibility of dissolution testing data and inconsistency of dissolution results can arise from the complex hydrodynamics present in the unbaffled, hemispherical-bottom, agitated vessel that constitute the UPS Apparatus 2 . In the present invention, a novel dissolution testing apparatus was constructed in which the impeller was placed off-center with respect to the center point of the vessel bottom. It has been shown that the dissolution profiles in the present invention were not significantly affected by tablet location as confirmed by the value of the factors f 1 and f 2 , which were well within the accepted ranges and did not change appreciably with the tablet location. By contrast, the corresponding dissolution tests for current systems failed these similarity tests. In addition, the flow fields near the vessel bottom were obtained via CFD simulation and were found to be significantly more uniform in e present invention than in the current standard apparatus. The present invention has the potential of becoming a valid alternative to the standard USP dissolution testing apparatuses used for dissolution testing.

In some embodiments, rotation of the ferromagnetic stir bar within the mixing chamber mixes the sample contained within the mixing chamber.

A bridge (30) comprises a first inlet port (31) at the end of a capillary, a narrower second inlet port (32) which is an end of a capillary, an outlet port (33) which is an end of a capillary, and a chamber (34) for silicone oil. The oil is density-matched with the reactor droplets such that a neutrally buoyant environment is created within the chamber (34). The oil within the chamber is continuously replenished by the oil separating the reactor droplets. This causes the droplets to assume a stable capillary-suspended spherical form upon entering the chamber (34). The spherical shape grows until large enough to span the gap between the ports, forming an axisym metric liquid bridge. The introduction of a second droplet from the second inlet port (32) causes the formation of an unstable funicular bridge that quickly ruptures from the, finer, second inlet port (32), and the droplets combine at the liquid bridge (30). In another embodiment, a droplet (55) segments into smaller droplets which bridge the gap between the inlet and outlet ports.

Also described is an organically-enhanced granular nitrogen-phosphorous-sulfur fertilizer having at least about 0.5% by weight total carbon and amino acids, and accreted granule size greater than or equal to about 1.7 mm. The fertilizer is noncombustible.

The invention relates to a mixture formation device for an internal combustion engine that is operated with a combustible gas, preferably compressed natural gas (CNG). The mixture formation device comprises a combination of a quantity regulator, a gas mixer, a flow guide element to recover pressure as well as a connection capability for recirculating the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. Owing to the mixture formation device according to the invention, a gas tank can be emptied down to a relatively low pressure of approximately 2 bar, whereby an excellent mixture formation is achieved over the entire speed and load ranges of the internal combustion engine. It is provided that, owing to the mixture formation device according to the invention, the installation space requirements as well as the production costs can be reduced in comparison to prior-art solutions. Moreover, an internal combustion engine operated with a combustible gas, especially natural gas (CNG), is being put forward which has such a mixture formation device in its intake tract.
