The reaction process has high product yield and selectivity. The selectivity for liquid fuel composed of C5-C11can reach 50-80%. The selectivity for aromatic hydrocarbon is less than 40% in C5-C11, while the selectivity for methane side product is less than 15%.

Disclosed is a process for the production of lower olefins by the conversion of a feed stream comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and catalysts as used therein, such as a Fischer-Tropsch process. By virtue of the invention, lower olefins can be formed from synthesis gas, with high selectivity, and low production of methane. The catalysts used herein comprise an α-alumina support, and a catalytically active component that comprises iron-containing particles dispersed onto the support in at least 1 wt. %. The majority of the iron-containing particles is in direct contact with the α-alumina and is well-distributed thereon. Preferably, the iron-containing particles have an average particle size below 30 nm, and most preferably below 10 nm. The supported catalysts not only show a high selectivity, but also a high catalyst activity and chemical and mechanical stability.

The weight percentage range of ceria-zirconia and other metal and rare earth oxides (x+y+z) is from about 5 to about 80% relative to total oxides. Combining platinum group metals (PGM) and adhesive with the catalyst supports, a new wash coat made therefrom is provided that comprises a mixture of catalyst support materials according to the relationship (a)RE-Ce—Zr0 2 +(3)CZMLA+(1-a-β)RE-AI 2 0 3 , where RE-Ce—Zr0 2 is a commercial OSC material of rare earth elements stabilized ceria zirconia having a weight ratio (a) ranging from 0 to about 0.7; CZMLA is the catalyst support material of the present disclosure having a weight ratio (β) ranging from about 0.2 to about 1 such that (α+β)<1; and RE-AI 2 0 3 is rare earth element stabilized alumina having a weight ratio equal to (1-α-β). The new wash coat made therefrom exhibits a lower activation temperature compared with traditional formulation of wash coat by at least 50° C. The new wash coat made therefrom also requires less RE-Ce—Zr0 2 oxide and/or less PGM in the formulation of emission control catalyst for gasoline and diesel engines.

Therefore, although a high content of nickel is supported, the catalyst has a small crystal size of an activated metal and a high degree of dispersion and provides excellent hydrogenation activity. In addition, silica with a controlled particle size distribution is used as a support, so that the produced catalyst also has a uniform particle size distribution and is suppressed from being smashed at a high-speed rotation in the hydrogenation reaction, thereby providing a high filtration rate.

The catalyst is also distinguished by structural and preferred properties of the nickel, namely that the nickel particles mostly have a tetragonal form and the particles have a size of ≦50 nm, preferably ≦40 nm and particularly preferably ≦30 nm, and are present finely dispersed as grown-on hexaaluminate particles. The copper oxide-titanium dioxide nanocatalyst is in the form of copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles supported on mesoporous titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes. The copper oxide-titanium dioxide nanocatalyst is prepared by adding an aqueous solution of Cu(NO3)23H2O to an aqueous suspension of titanium dioxide nanotubes. Deposition precipitation at constant alkaline pH is used to form the copper oxide nanoparticles supported on mesoporous titanium dioxide nanotubes. Aqueous sodium carbonate is used to adjust the pH. The solid matter (copper oxide deposited on titanium dioxide nanotubes) is separated from the suspension, washed, dried and calcined, yielding the copper oxide-titanium dioxide nanocatalyst. Carbon monoxide may then flow over a fixed-bed reactor loaded with the copper oxide-titanium dioxide nanocatalyst at a temperature between 80° C. and 200° C.

In the operation of an oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) process, it is desirable to remove oxygen in the product stream for a number of reasons, including to reduce oxidation of the product. This may be achieved by having several pre-reactors upstream of the main reactor having a catalyst system containing labile oxygen. The feed passes through one or more reactors saturated with labile oxygen. When the labile oxygen is consumed through a valve system, the pre-reactor accepts product from the main reactor and complexes reactive oxygen in the product stream until the catalyst system is saturated with labile oxygen. Then the reactor becomes a pre-reactor and another pre-reactor becomes a scavenger.

Porous metal oxide catalytic materials with planar morphologies which are derived from metal-organic framework (MOF) materials via thermal decomposition, oxidation pretreatment and pyrolysis processes. The porous metal oxides are mainly transition metal oxides, derived from MOFs containing the corresponding transition metal ions, such as Cu, Zn, Y, La, Ce, Ti, Zr, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni ions. The transformation conditions from MOF materials to metal oxides, such as temperature, atmosphere and duration, are well defined to obtain metal oxides with controlled morphologies. Furthermore, the present subject matter relates to a low-temperature catalytic decomposition of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with a wide concentration range on two-dimensional metal oxides.

Desulfurization of hydrocarbon feeds is achieved by flashing the feed at a target cut point temperature to obtain two fractions. A first fraction contains refractory organosulfur compounds, which boils at or above the target cut point temperature. A second fraction boiling below the target cut point temperature is substantially free of refractory sulfur-containing compounds. The second fraction is contacted with a hydrodesulfurization catalyst in a hydrodesulfurization reaction zone operating under mild conditions to reduce the quantity of organosulfur compounds to an ultra-low level. The first fraction is contacted with gaseous oxidizing agent over an oxidation catalyst having a formula Cu x Zn 1-x Al 2 O 4 in a gas phase catalytic oxidation reaction zone to convert the refractory organosulfur compounds to SO x and low sulfur hydrocarbons. The by-product SO x is subsequently removed, producing a stream containing a reduced level of organo sulfur compounds.

The present disclosure relates to methods for selectively hydrogenating acetylene, to methods for starting up a selective hydrogenation reactor, and to hydrogenation catalysts useful in such methods. In one aspect, the disclosure provides a method for selectively hydrogenating acetylene, the method comprising contacting a catalyst composition with a process gas. The catalyst composition comprises a porous support, palladium, and one or more ionic liquids. The process gas includes ethylene, present in the process gas in an amount of at least 20 mol. %; and acetylene, present in the process gas in an amount of at least 1 ppm. At least 90% of the acetylene present in the process gas is hydrogenated, and the selective hydrogenation is conducted without thermal runaway. Notably, the process gas is contacted with the catalyst at a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) based on total catalyst volume in one bed or multiple beds of at least 7,100 h−1.
