The weight percentage range of ceria-zirconia and other metal and rare earth oxides (x+y+z) is from about 5 to about 80% relative to total oxides. Combining platinum group metals (PGM) and adhesive with the catalyst supports, a new wash coat made therefrom is provided that comprises a mixture of catalyst support materials according to the relationship (a)RE-Ce—Zr0 2 +(3)CZMLA+(1-a-β)RE-AI 2 0 3 , where RE-Ce—Zr0 2 is a commercial OSC material of rare earth elements stabilized ceria zirconia having a weight ratio (a) ranging from 0 to about 0.7; CZMLA is the catalyst support material of the present disclosure having a weight ratio (β) ranging from about 0.2 to about 1 such that (α+β)<1; and RE-AI 2 0 3 is rare earth element stabilized alumina having a weight ratio equal to (1-α-β). The new wash coat made therefrom exhibits a lower activation temperature compared with traditional formulation of wash coat by at least 50° C. The new wash coat made therefrom also requires less RE-Ce—Zr0 2 oxide and/or less PGM in the formulation of emission control catalyst for gasoline and diesel engines.

The present invention can facilitate the reduction of nickel by using copper as an accelerator when a hydrogenation catalyst including nickel is produced by using a deposition-precipitation (DP) method. According to an embodiment of the present invention, provided is a catalyst for a hydrogenation reaction that includes 40-80 parts by weight of nickel as a catalyst active component, 0.01-5 parts by weight of copper as an accelerator, and 10-30 parts by weight of a silica support based on 100 parts by weight of the entire catalyst. Therefore, although a high content of nickel is supported, the catalyst has a small crystal size of an activated metal and a high degree of dispersion and provides excellent hydrogenation activity. In addition, silica with a controlled particle size distribution is used as a support, so that the produced catalyst also has a uniform particle size distribution and is suppressed from being smashed at a high-speed rotation in the hydrogenation reaction, thereby providing a high filtration rate.

The catalyst and process generally involve the use of a base extrudate comprising the high nanopore volume ASA and the second ASA in a catalyst to produce hydrotreated dewaxed base oil products by contacting the catalyst with a hydrocarbon feedstock. The catalyst base extrudate advantageously comprises a first amorphous silica alumina having a pore volume in the 11-20 nm pore diameter range of 0.2 to 1.0 cc/g and a second amorphous silica alumina having a pore volume in the 11-20 nm pore diameter range of 0.02 to 0.2 cc/g, with the base extrudate formed from the amorphous silica alumina and the alumina having a total pore volume in the 2-50 nm pore diameter range of 0.12 to 1.80 cc/g. The catalyst further comprises at least one modifier element from Groups 6 to 10 and Group 14 of the Periodic Table. The catalyst and process provide improved aromatics saturation.

Particularly, a process for producing BTX from a feedstream comprising C5-C12 hydrocarbons is provided comprising the steps of: (a) contacting said feedstream in the presence of hydrogen with a combined hydrocracking/hydrodesulphurisation catalyst to produce a hydrocracking product stream comprising BTX; and (b) separating the BTX from the hydrocracking product stream. The hydrocracking/hydrodesulphurisation catalyst comprises 0.1-1 wt-% hydrogenation metal in relation to the total catalyst weight. The hydrocracking/hydrodesulphurisation catalyst further comprises a zeolite having a pore size of 5-8 Å and a silica (SiO 2 ) to alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) molar ratio of 5-200. The hydrocracking/hydrodesulphurisation conditions include a temperature of 450-580° C., a pressure of 300-5000 kPa gauge and a Weight Hourly Space Velocity of 0.1-10 h −1 .

The present invention relates to a method for making high surface area and large pore volume thermally stable silica-doped alumina (aluminum oxide) catalyst support and ceramic materials. The ability of the silica-alumina to withstand high temperatures in presence or absence of water and prevent sintering allows it to maintain good activity over a long period of time in catalytic reactions. The method of preparing such materials includes adding organic silicon reagents to an organic aluminum salt such as an alkoxide in a controlled quantity as a doping agent in a solid state, solvent deficient reaction followed by calcination. Alternatively, the organic silicon compound may be added after calcination of the alumina, followed by another calcination step. This method is inexpensive and simple. The alumina catalyst support material prepared by the subject method maintains high pore volumes, pore diameters and surface areas at very high temperatures and in the presence of steam.
