A handle mounted adjacent one end of a centrally bored body when squeezed toward the body turns a stem through about 22°. The interior of the stem is cut away so that all that remains is a 90° sector which functions as a cam. On the opposite end of the body is an inlet port. A reciprocable actuator has a seat at one end which is biased to close the inlet port. The opposite end of the actuator engages the cam. Vanes on the actuator center the actuator relative to the bore of the body and permit fluid to pass from the port past the stem when the handle is depressed. When the handle is up, the cam is positioned so that the end of the actuator moves forward by spring and water pressure force to close the valve. When the handle is depressed, the cam turns to force the stem back to unseat the valve and because the stem is cut away for approximately 270°, fluid flows around the stem and out of the discharge port.

A water spraying assembly is provided which includes a central conduit, an impeller, and a mist nozzle having a tapered chamber that decreases in cross-sectional area as it narrows into a nozzle outlet sufficiently small so as to reduce the flowing water's pressure as it is transported down the chamber. The impeller includes blades which form channels for receiving water from the central conduit. Further, these channels produce a vortex, rotating the passing water stream. The impeller is directly adjacent to, upstream and in fluid connection with the entrance of the tapered chamber which tapers inwardly until it reaches its smallest measurement at the nozzle outlet. Consequently, the swirling water and the tapered chamber create a low-pressure environment, thereby increasing the water's velocity and force. Due to the high velocity and the outlet's small opening, water is ejected from the outlet as small droplets in a fine mist spray pattern.

A distribution plate is located in the seat and an inner nozzle is pivotably connected to the distribution plate. A fixing ring is threadedly connected to the front end of the body. An outer nozzle is connected to the fixing ring. The distribution plate has a flange extending from the inner periphery thereof. A hole is formed at the center of the flange. Multiple inner blades extend alternatively from the inner periphery of the flange, and multiple outer blades extend alternatively from the outer periphery of the distribution plate. The air pressure is evenly distributed via the inner and outer blades of the distribution plate so that the paint is sprayed evenly.

The nozzle includes a pistol grip trigger assembly mounted on the barrel that includes a segment gear pivotably for engaging a toothed surface of the slide valve element so that rotation of the segment gear causes reciprocation of the slide valve element. A four-bar linkage arrangement is incorporated between a manually actuated trigger to translate depressing the trigger to controllable reciprocation of the slide valve element. The four-bar linkage provides a mechanical advantage that allows the firefighter to easily control the trigger and thus the fluid discharge from the nozzle.
