A cutting device for cutting a flat workpiece includes a nibbler that continuously punches the workpiece, and a fluid spraying device that sprays a fluid onto the surface of the workpiece. The nibbler includes a cylindrical case, a punch that has a punch blade for punching the workpiece and that is accommodated in the case to have reciprocating motion in the vertical direction, and a die provided below the case. The cutting device is configured to move the workpiece interposed between the case and die in a prescribed direction while continuously punching the workpiece with the punch. The fluid spraying device has a spray port from which the fluid is discharged and is configured so the fluid is discharged from the spray port in the direction in which the punch approaches the die. The spray port of the fluid spraying device is disposed near the punch blade of the punch.

A punch press has a punch support and die support which are rotatable about a common vertical axis, and a drive mechanism for rotating and effecting the reorientation of the tooling relative to the X and Y axes of the punch press. In this fashion, rotation of the tooling will enable reorientation of single cutting surface, and location of various of the differently contoured cutting surfaces at the desired cutting position to effect cutouts of different contours or angular orientation in a workpiece relative to the X and Y axes. The punch has a cutting portion which is of a cross section providing at least one arcuate cutting surface A 1 defined by the radius R 1 and at least one rectilinear cutting surface A 2 . In accordance with one embodiment, the punch tooling is desirably of elongated cross section with a length L in its elongated axis and a width W in its transverse axis which is less than 1/2 L. Movement of the sheet material along the X and Y axes together with rotation of the tooling enables relatively smooth curvilinear and rectilinear contoured surface portions to be nibbled with a single set, or limited number of sets, of tooling.

ABSTRACT This invention relates to a manually operated cutting tool for cutting notches or slits in metal, plastic and the like. The tool has a pair of handles with a pivot pin connecting the handles together and a pair of links pivotally connected to one another at one end with the free ends thereof being connected to the handles. A punch has at least one character at one end and has the connected ends of the links pivotally connected to the other end. A die is fixedly secured to the handles and includes a bore receiving the punch means, the bore having at least one recess with the cutter disposed therein. The die has a surface which engages material to be cut and maintains the same thereon as the cutter moves downwardly into the die in response to the inward movement of the handles so that the material is cut. There is thus provided a slidable punch and die arrangement wherein cutting is achieved by longitudinal movement of the punch within the bore of the die as opposed to known devices wherein cooperating jaws come together.

A device for cutting sheet metal is disclosed. The device comprises of a cutting blade (13) which passes between two curved sharpened support blades (12 & 14) (~curved support blades~), the latter which curves away from the cutting blade (13). The cutting blade (13) and the curved support blades (12 & 14) each have two holes in them (henceforth referred to as upper and lower holes) which enable them to be connected together and to the handles (4 & 5). The handles (4 & 5) are long and similar to those commonly used in long handle pruning secateurs. Items (3 & 6) each have two holes in them (henceforth referred to as upper and lower holes) which enable them to be connected together and to the cutting blade (13) and the curved support blades (12 & 14). Items (3 & 6) are bolted together at their upper holes, and at the other ends they slot into the handles (4 & 5). The cutting blade (13) and the two curved support blades (12 & 14) are bolted together at their upper holes, with the cutting blade (13) fitting between the two curved support blades (12 & 14). The two curved support blades (12 & 14) are connected to either side of item (6), and they are all bolted together at their respective lower holes. The cutting blade (13) is bolted to item (3) at the lower holes of both items. The two curved support blades (12 & 14) are held together by a bracket (1) which keeps the former parallel to each other and demarcates the space for which the cutting blade (13) passes through. The cutting blade (13) is straight, however the face of the blade is angled to one side to assist with the cutting.

In apparatus for nibbling, a press head depresses a punch 32 guided in a C-frame 20 on which the die 50 is mounted. The punch and the die have male and female complementary semi - cylindrical cutting portions and are maintained in alignment by a key portion 37 on the punch engaging a surface on the die formed by a plug inserted in the bottom of the die. A tubular stripper comprises a bush 42 guided in the C-frame 20 and depressed by oppositely-wound light and heavy springs 57, 58. The heavy spring is made short to allow it to become inoperative at the instant the punch withdraws from the work-piece and for variations in pressure for light metal &c. to be effected by the spring 57. The punch die and stripper are locked in alignment by a manuallyinserted pin 46 passing through slots in the stripper and the die 50 and engaging a hole in the punch on cutting to a straight line &c. A cut-away part 56 on the die allows for burr clearance. In a modification, Fig. 15 (not shown), the punch and the die are mounted offcentre in turntables and the tools function with a castoring action in working to a scribed line. In nibbling to a templet a stepped edge of the stripper engages the edge of the templet and the punch and die rotate to maintain the cutting edge normal to the templet. U.S.A. Specifications 1,955,866, and 2,364,011 are referred to.

Ein Scherwerkzeug hat einen Scherstempel (4), der zum Scheren eines Werkstücks (5) zwischen einer Neutralstellung und mindestens einer Scherstellung hubverlagerbar ist. Mit dem Scherstempel (4) wirkt zum Abscheren eines Werkstück-Teils eine Schermatrize zusammen. Der Scherstempel (4) hat eine randseitige Scherklinge (9), die mit einer komplementär geformten Gegenklinge der Schermatrize zusammenwirkt. Die Scherklinge (9) hat zwischen einer Klingen-Spitze (11) und einem Klingen-Ende (12) zwei Klingen-Schenkel, die über einen Klingen-Eckabschnitt (13) miteinander verbunden sind. In der Neutralstellung des Scherstempels (4) nimmt ein Abstand der Scherklinge (9) zu einer Werkstück-Ebene längs des Verlaufs der Scherklinge (9) monoton zu, sodass der Abstand im Bereich der Klingen-Spitze (11) kleiner ist als im Bereich des Klingen-Eckabschnitts (13) und dort wiederum kleiner ist als im Bereich des Klingen-Endes (12). Es resultiert ein Scherwerkzeug mit dem auch Eckenschnitte ohne unerwünschte Abzeichnungen und ohne unerwünschte Materialverluste möglich sind. Bei einem Scherverfahren wird beim Scheren eines Eckebschnitts der Scherstempel (4) dort soweit verlagert, dass auch der Klingen-Eckabschnitt (13) das Werkstück (5) durchdringt. Im sonstigen Schnittverlauf reicht es aus, wenn der Scherstempel (4) soweit hubverlagert wird, dass jedenfalls die Klingen-Spitze (11) das Werkstück (5) durchdringt.
