A dispenser is provided for viscous condiments. The dispenser includes a tubular sidewall having opposite ends. One opposite end is open and can receive a plunger or piston therein for applying force to condiment contained within a compartment inside of the sidewall. The other end of the sidewall includes a dispenser valve assembly comprising a member secured to an inturned flange portion of the sidewall with the flange portion being generally normal to the sidewall. The dispenser valve assembly is suitably secured to the flange portion as by heat sealing to form a composite laminated structure that is resistant to the penetration of liquids from the condiments. A bead of hot melt can be provided to seal an exposed outer edge of the dispenser valve assembly and to seal the dispenser valve assembly to the sidewall. The dispenser valve assembly includes a valve plate having one or more selectively openable discharge openings formed therein that will open and close under the influence of pressure applied to the condiment within the dispenser.

An automatic assembling system, comprising: a robot performing an operation of inserting a first member into a second member; a force sensor for detecting an insertion force exerted on the first member by the robot; and a controller for controlling the insertion force with a closed-loop feedback control according to a difference between the insertion force detected by the force sensor and a predetermined insertion force, so that the insertion force is less than the predetermined insertion force to protect the first member and/or the second member from damage due to an overlarge insertion force. The present invention also is directed to a method for automatically assembling a product. 1. An automatic assembling system , comprising:a robot for inserting a first member into a second member;a force sensor positioned to detect an insertion force emanating from the robot and exerted by the robot while inserting the first member into the second member; anda controller preset with a predetermined insertion force and responsive to the force sensor for (a) measuring the difference between the predetermined insertion force and the insertion force emanating from the robot and detected by the force sensor while the first part is being inserted in the second part, and (b) controlling the insertion force emanating from the robot in the insertion of the first part into the second part to be less than the preset predetermined insertion force to protect the first member and/or the second member from damage due to an overlarge insertion force.2. Provided are self-retractable centering assemblies and methods of using these assemblies for alignment of parts having determinant assembly alignment holes. An assembly includes a center pin having a threaded portion threadably engaging a drive component. The assembly also includes a puller bushing rotatably coupled to the drive component. The center pin protrudes through the puller bushing and can slide with respect to the puller bushing when the drive component is rotated relative to the center pin. The sliding distance is controlled by a limiter disposed within the cavity of the puller bushing. During operation, a portion of the center pin extends from the puller bushing and is inserted into alignment holes of parts being aligned. A kinematic coupling apparatus where mating between two objects occurs at six contacting elements, each located and oriented in compliance with the laws of kinematic design, and where each mating surface is constrained in its normal direction while having relatively high compliance in the other five degrees of freedom. The contact surfaces are preferably planar. Each coupling element is mounted on a five degree of freedom flexure, known as a stud. For maximum stiffness in three orthogonal axes, the couplings are arranged in pairs, with each pair being parallel to its twin, and orthogonal to the other two pairs. For maximum torsional rigidity, each mating pair of mating surfaces is arranged at equal and maximum distance from the center of gravity of the object being located. For highest repeatability, a positive fluid pressure is applied between the mating surfaces immediately prior to the opposing surfaces making mating contact. The precise location of the contact surfaces can be controllably adjusted to sub-nanometer accuracy by means of a linear actuator in series and collinear with the central axis of each stud.

Aligning parts using multi-part scanning and feature based coordinate systems

Provided are methods and systems for aligning multiple parts using simultaneous scanning of features of different parts and using feature-based coordinate systems for determining relative positions of these. Specifically, a feature-based coordinate system may be constructed using one or more critical dimensions between features of different parts. The scanner may he specifically positioned to capture each of these critical dimensions precisely. The feature-based coordinate system is used to compare the critical dimensions to specified ranges. The position of at least one part may be adjusted based on results of this comparison using, for example, a robotic manipulator. The process may be repeated until all critical dimensions are within their specified ranges. In some embodiments, multiple sets of features from different parts are used such that each set uses its own feature-based coordinate system. The part adjustment may be performed based on the collective output from these multiple sets.
