The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for making shaped articles, and more particularly, to an apparatus that recovers excess material or flash for recycling as part of the shaping. The articles are shaped by feeding a web material between a rotary die and an anvil roller, wherein the rotary die and the anvil roller are rotating in opposite directions. The material is cut with the rotary die into a web product and a web flash. The web product is then conveyed away from the rotary die, and the web flash is removed for recycling. A second web material can then be cut with the rotary die to form a secondary web product and a second web flash. This secondary web product is then laminated onto the web product.

The machine operates with a reduced number of costly members (4, 5, 8), reliably and without any danger of stuffing since said members are located in the underpressure area of the blower (7).

A method and apparatus for winding strip material is described in which strip which has partially severed scrap edge portions still frangibly attached thereto, is wound on to a coil or mandrel so that the cut edges of the strip are aligned. The strip passes past trimming knives which partially sever the edge portion and sensors measure the lateral position T of the knife and the lateral position E of the uncut edge of the edge portion adjacent to the knife position A. The scrap width T-E is then recorded. As the strip is about to be wound on to the coil at position B the lateral position R of uncut edge of scrap portion is sensed by a sensor. Sheets are fed to a first, upstream trimming station to remove margin edges and optionally separate the sheets relative to the discrete page images. The sheets are then rotated 90 degrees and fed to a second, downstream trimming station that trims the right-angle edges and optionally separates the sheets into a final group of full-bleed pages, removing margins and gutter strips. The sheets are fed to a stacking assembly to be tacked in page order and any rejected, defective sheets or stacks are removed from the order.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung und ein Verfahren zur Führung einer Materialbahn, welche beziehungsweise welches zur Einstellung der Breite der Materialbahn zumindest ein Längsschneidmittel nutzt, mit welcher die Bahn entlang ihrer Bewegungsrichtung (z) trennbar ist. Bei diesen Vorrichtungen können Schwankungen der Breite der Materialbahn dazu führen, dass das Messer der Längsschneidvorrichtung nicht mehr in Kontakt mmit der Materialbahn steht. Die Aufgabe wird gelöst durch zumindest einen Sensor, mit welchem Messwerte aufnehmbar sind, aus denen sich die Breite der Bahn (1) ermitteln lässt und zumindest eine Betätigungsvorrichtung für das zumindest eine Längsschneidemittel (5a, 5b), mit welchem das Längsschneidemittel (5a, 5b) aktivierbar und deaktivierbar ist und welches aufgrund von Signalen des zumindest einen Sensors ansteuerbar ist.

The system includes a funnel receiving the paper trim from an automatic trimmer, a drum and rewinder for winding the paper trim into a bale, and a dust trap for sucking dust from the drum and funnel into a dust bin. As the trim is baled, the rewinder drags the paper bale against the side of the drum. This drag compacts the bale and increases the load on the rewinder. As the drag load on the rewinder increases, the rewinder is moved radially towards the center of the drum to increase the distance between the rewinder and the drum wall. A current sensing circuit triggers the radial movement of the rewinder when the current load on the rewinder motor exceeds a threshold limit. This radial movement reduces the drag on the rewinder. When the rewinder reaches the center of the drum and the trim bale fills the drum, the rewinder is stopped and the trim bale removed.

A completely automatic method for the nesting of contours to be cut from a piece of natural leather in which defects in structure and material as well as the outer contours of the leather are detected by means of a camera. The defective places, characterized by different shades of color, are transmitted to the electronic control unit. Pattern contours to be cut are stored in the electronic control unit, and regions wherein specific degrees of defect are tolerable are defined for each contour. A specific shade of color corresponds to each degree of defect, so that defects of the same degree are characterized by the same shade of color (in the case of black-and-white cameras by the same gray values in the case of color cameras by the same color temperature). An automatic nesting simulation process is then effected via a software program. The pattern contours stored in the electronic control unit are electronically placed together with due consideration of the predetermined defect constraints and thus different cutting patterns are simulated. When an optimum cutting pattern has been found, i.e., the maximum possible degree of utilization has been obtained, the simulation image is stored and used later for controlling the automatic cutting system.

The apparatus uses a combination of rotary die and anvil roller assemblies in successive multiple stations to cut and separate each raw material into final product portions and recyclable flash portions as each raw material enters the apparatus. The apparatus separately reclaims each raw material flash portion and delivers the flash of each material in a recyclable form to an auxiliary recycling operation. In recovering the flash, the apparatus does not adversely affect the speed or quality of production of the final shaped or laminated product. To ease removal of the flash, the apparatus applies lubricant to the blades of the rotary die. To avoid damage to web material, the apparatus uses vacuum belts to convey the web material and web product through the apparatus.

Dadurch werden der Überspannungsableiter (7) und die Durchführung (5) mechanisch entkoppelt.
