The knife beam, which is shown at 22, is operated by rods 21 connected to crankwheels on the shaft of the wheet 23. The clamp beam 1 is operated from a separate crank-disk 13 on the shaft of the wheel 24, which gears with the wheel 23. The link 12 connects the crank-disk 13 to a lever 10 loose on the spindle 11, and this lever is coupled to the lever 7, pivoted at 8, by the compression spring 9. The beam 1 is connected by rods 2 and links 3 to bell-crank levers secured on the spindles 11, 8, respectively, and coupled by the rod 6. Thus the motion of the crank-disk 13 is communicated to the lever 7, and so to the beam 1, through the spring 9, the strength of which determines the pressure that is brought to bear on the paper pile when the beam is brought to rest upon it.

A drive member rotates the pipe 2, that may have a push rod 28, and a spreading element parts the belts to allow the cutter to rotate into a clearance space 7. The transmission rods are driven to move the cutters so that the transverse edges cut the film whilst passing through the film clearance spaces. A pair of cutters 32 may butt up to each-other prior to transversely cutting the film.

The present invention comprises a surface on which to place the insulation that is almost flush with the floor minimizing vertical displacement of the fiberglass. A hinged design allows a top member to compress the insulation. A machined slit provides a location for a cutting implement to be inserted and the insulation cut. Extending past the machined slit, the top portion provides a location where the user can rest his knee. Thus, an efficient cutting angle can be easily achieved and if needed more force can be used to further compress the insulation. A flange positioned at the end of the cutting slit protects the user's knee from the blade as well as any airborne insulation particles. It is also smaller than most other proposed solutions and so more easily stored and transported by a home owner or a professional from job site to job site.
