197,705. Plantation Rubber Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Underwood, G. F., and Luffsmith, W. Nov. 22,1921. Handles.- Handle-grips for sporting implements are formed from crepe and like raw sheet rubber, which is first treated with a solution to render it pliable, such as a solution of carbonate cr silicate of soda or potash which may be heated, and is then formed on a former or on the handle itself, and is vulcanized by a cold process, such as the Peachy process. Where rigidity is required a surface treatment of tar, shellac, resin or celluloid dissolved in naptha or ether &c. may be applied. Fig. 1 shows a tubular grip for a racket, formed from a sheet of crepe rubber a connected at the edges b by a strip c soluticned on. The ends may be turned over as at d, and may be stuffed with a padding material e, Fig. 2. In a modification the tubular grip is formed from two sheets placed together with the edges overlapping for fixing together on a mandrel; in another modification a tubular grip is formed by cutting the overlapping rubber to unite it, the ends being turned over, or bound with strip rubber. A strip for winding spirally on a handle, or fixing on, may be made by attaching a fabric, or warp threads, or warp and weft threads, as a lining to the crepe sheets. The crepe sheet lined or not with fabric may be attached to a handle by lacing the edges together by a cord &c.
