To reduce the expenditure in terms of apparatus whilst simultaneously increasing the versatility and register accuracy, a rotary printing unit (3 to 5) and a rotary punching unit (2) are both able to print and punch respectively only over part of their circumference. A looping slide (6) is arranged in such a way that the section of the web of material (1) which is influenced by it and can consist of a copy belt and of a support belt is guided both through the printing unit and through the punching unit. The cutting tool (15) which can be clamped firmly and releasably on the support cylinder (13) for punching through the copy belt, but not the support belt, consists of a thin plate of flexible material from which the cutting edges are raised. CONSTITUTION: A substrate is prepared in a reaction furnace. The substrate is set at a temperature of 200-1300 deg.C. A gallium metal source is supplied to the substrate. The supplied gallium metal source is transformed into a gallium metal island on the substrate. After the supply of the gallium metal source is stopped, a nitrogen source is supplied to the gallium metal island. The gallium metal island is reacted with the nitrogen source to form a gallium nitride island. A GaN epitaxial layer is grown by using the gallium nitride island as a seed.

The visibility is obtained by unequally folding the cover, or by allowing the cover to form part of the index, or by a combination of these methods. The index may be formed by cutting the sections, in turn, after they have been printed and folded, or before they have been stitched and bound. A single knife is used to cut the several sections, the stepping being effected by adjusting the position of the sections with regard to the knife. The knife may at the same time trim the edge or remaining edges of the sections, or a separate knife may be used for this purpose.

The apparatus has measuring heads that are arranged on both sides of a folding roll bearing levers. For the purpose of presetting, the product to be folded is introduced slowly between folding rolls. The position of the folding rolls is determined, and a setting signal is generated therefrom and supplied to an actuating motor via a machine presetting means. The actuating motor sets the position of the folding roll levers, such that the folding rolls can be set relative to one another with regard to their mutual spacing, in accordance with the thickness of the folded product.
