The first chamber is partially bounded by a ring member which rotates with the axle body. An annular disc is mounted on the axle body adjacent to the ring member. The disc extends radially outwardly beyond an outer rim of the ring member and radially overlaps the ring member. The disc is axially slidable towards and away from the ring member. When the disc is spaced apart from the ring member an opening or space is formed therebetween through which may be communicated pressurized air to inflate a tire. The rotary feedthrough ( 7 ) comprises an annular chamber ( 25 ) present between the rotor (R) and the stator (S) that can be sealed off by activatable seals ( 15, 16 ). A stator side and a rotor side air channel ( 8, 17 ) open into said chamber. The seals ( 15, 16 ) that can be activated for the purpose of compressed air transfer are disposed spaced apart in an axial arrangement having the same or approximately the same spacing from the rotary axis of the rotor (R). According to the invention, either the seals ( 15, 16 ) are designed for operating facing each other and an annular grove ( 18 ) present between the seals ( 15, 16 ) and open to the rotor (R) in the radial direction engages in rotor flange ( 19 ). The seals ( 15, 16 ) act against the opposite outer sides ( 20, 21 ) thereof when activated, for the purpose of sealing off the annular chamber. According to an alternative embodiment, the seals are designed to operate facing away from each other and the seals are disposed on a stator flange engaging in an annular grove and, when activated, act for the purpose of sealing the annular chamber against the groove walls of the rotor side annular groove, which are situated opposite one another. The part of the annular grove ( 18 ) sealed off by the activated seals ( 15, 16 ) in each case forms the annular chamber ( 25 ).

Equipment to equalise the load between two tyres on a heavy vehicle axle, includes a member (1) forming a part of the frame, supporting a fixed axle (2). There can be more than one pair of wheels (3, 4) and more than one axle. The tyres (7) are filled with water under pressure. In the shaft is a longitudinal hole (9), and, in it, a tube (10). At each shaft end is a junction (13), leading to a pipe (15) to a valve (8) in the tyre (7). Pressure in the two tyres is thus equalised and operation on rough ground is improved.

The invention relates to a wheel axle and drive shaft or universal shaft for vehicles with a central tyre pressure supply, comprising a pressure medium supply and non-return valve (4a) which is located centrally at the end of the axial bore (2a) after the wheel nut and is connected to a coupling element (5a, 6a) that is coaxial with the axle valve (4a), said coupling element consisting of a radial or axial groove (5a) for a static or dynamic seal (6a). All wheels are interchangeable. Once a wheel has been removed, the axle valve (4a) closes automatically. When a wheel is re-mounted, the axle valve (4a) is opened by the counter-valve (4b) in the rim hub. A coupling (5a, 5c, 6a) that is coaxial with the axle valve (4a) prevents the escape of pressure medium even on a fixed wheel axle (1) during a journey. A slidable coupling consisting of a piston cylinder unit (8, 9) moves the axle valve (4a) away from the rim valve (4b) when the tyre pressure reaches a specified minimum value. This closes the valve (4b), maintaining a constant minimum tyre pressure.
