A mounting frame with a frame attachment point disposed on a support can be attached to a work vehicle. The suspension can be caused to lower the mounting frame relative to ground by lowering the chassis of the work vehicle. The work vehicle can be maneuvered to align the frame attachment point with a corresponding attachment point on the attachment. The suspension can then be caused to raise the mounting frame relative to ground by raising the chassis of the work vehicle. The present invention is a system for adjusting the height of vehicles. The vehicle is supported by a hollow cylinder and a piston having an undersized piston skirt is mounted on the suspension system's coil spring, and sealingly slidable within the cylinder bore. When a fluid is introduced into the expandable pressure space between the piston and the cylinder top, the piston and cylinder are forced apart, raising the vehicle. The undersized piston skirt can extend beyond the end of the cylinder, allowing the piston a greater travel length within the cylinder bore. The invention may be operated manually by a vehicle driver through push buttons, which can be the vehicle's existing cruise control buttons. Alternatively, the system can be automated using a control unit to automatically adjust ground clearance to avoid collision with obstacles in the vehicle's path. In another embodiment, the lift system, or any lift system, is prevented from activating, and deactivates (if previously activated) if the vehicle is travelling at excessive speed. 1. An axle/suspension system for a heavy-duty vehicle with a pair of suspension assemblies which each are mounted on a hanger outboardly offset from the outboard surface of the vehicle main member from which it depends. Each suspension assembly includes a beam pivotally attached to the hanger outboardly offset from the outboard surface of the main member. A surface feature and a sleeve with a preload flange are coupled to a portion of an exterior surface of the main damper cylinder. The sleeve is movable with respect to the surface feature in a direction along the axis of the main damper cylinder. A spring is located surrounding a portion of the external surface of the main damper cylinder, and has one end abutting the preload flange and another end coupled to the damper. The sleeve and the surface feature are disposed such that a change in an amount of hydraulic fluid between the sleeve and the surface feature causes the preload flange to change a preload on the spring.
