A high capacity cargo/container dolly. The cargo/container dolly includes retractable side stops that actively retract a roller linkage assembly upon retraction of the retractable side stops rather than relying on passive gravitational forces for the retraction. An apparatus for securing a transport item in a transportation space comprising:a first frame having a first frame top bar, a first frame bottom bar, and at least two first frame vertical bars;a second frame having a second frame top bar, a second frame bottom bar, and at least two second frame vertical bars; andat least first and second coupling bars, each coupling bar having a vertical member and first and second horizontal members, the first and second coupling bars each pivotably coupled to each of the first and second frames by each of the first and second horizontal members thereof, thereby defining a first receiving space between the first and second frames for receiving and securing the transport item.2. The apparatus as in claim 1 , further comprising at least a first inner frame coupled to the second frame by at least two linkages.3. A retention device for physically restraining undesired movement of an article during transport of the article. Retention devices may include a first surface, a first set of protrusions extending outward from the first surface, a second surface, and a second set of protrusions extending outward from the second surface. Each protrusion in the first set of protrusions may be shaped to engage a floor of a transport vehicle. Each protrusion in the second set of protrusions may be shaped to engage an article positioned in the transport vehicle. The first surface and the second surface may be aligned along different planes at an angular offset. During transport of an article, the first set of protrusions engage with a floor of the transport vehicle, and the second set of protrusions engage with the article. After the transport vehicle has arrived at its destination, the retention device can be released from engaging the floor and the article by lifting the article, as typically occurs when a forklift is used to unload the article from the transport vehicle.

Each locking mechanism includes a guide having a lock hook and a lock catch member pivotally secured thereto. A biasing spring urges the lock hook into engagement with the pallet. The lock hook is retained in its unlocked position by the lock catch member, which is also spring biased and which can be engaged with a foot to release the lock member into the locked position.

At loading and unloading the support is released from the hooks in one or the other end and is pulled backwards, is swung away or tilted backwards without the release of any hook. A cargo retainer, having a floor contacting member provided with an upwardly facing load bearing surface and an upright member secured adjacent to the rear end of the floor contacting member, is provided with a floor piercing element. The floor piercing element is movably mounted adjacent to the juncture between the floor contacting member and the upright member and is movable relative to the cargo retainer between a position of relatively shallow floor piercing engagement and a position of substantially deeper floor piercing engagement. A member projects from the cargo retainer adjacent to the juncture between the floor contacting member and the upright member in planar alignment with the floor piercing element and serves to drive the floor piercing element from a shallow engagement position to a deeper engagement position with rearward movement of the cargo retainer and thereby limit such movement in service. Means are further provided on the cargo retainer for engagement with the floor piercing element to effect removal of the element with forward movement of the cargo retainer in service. After forward movement of the cargo retainer in service, the floor piercing element is driven to reestablish a piercing engagement with the floor.
