FIELD: transportation. SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to means of protection of vehicles in collisions and is a controlled system of passive safety of vehicle, and can be used on vehicles intended for transportation of passengers and especially dangerous cargoes. Passenger car safety system comprises an energy-saving buffer consisting of two parts, one of which is a flexible elastic outer wall, and the other is a rigid support wall attached to the vehicle bearing structure. Both parts of the buffer are connected to each other by means of a flange with a seal and form a tight cavity at that the flexible elastic outer wall of the buffer is reinforced with a reinforcing mesh. Flange with seal is arranged so that flexible elastic wall material with reinforcing mesh is located between flange and rigid stop wall. Sealed chamber of the buffer is filled with air under pressure, and the buffer itself is equipped with adjustable air release valves to dissipate impact energy and control unit with sensors for measuring relative speed of vehicle collision. System further includes an active energy-absorbing device consisting of a housing with a cover, an elastic element and electronic locks. Elastic element is in compressed state and is attached by its opposite ends to body and cover of energy absorbing device, and electronic locks are connected directly to control unit. Cover of energy-absorbing device is attached to power unit, and housing - to vehicle floor in zone of deformation at impact. A bumper system for an automotive vehicle includes several piston rods, which are connected to a bumper beam at several joints, from one side, and each is connected to a piston from the other side. Each piston is fitted in a cylindrical bore to retain a certain amount of compressed gas and is movable along a straight line from an extended to a retracted position. Pistons are provided with locking mechanisms that allow them to move in one direction only; from the extended to the retracted positions. A temperature control system is provided to maintain the gas temperature within a certain range. The vehicle travels while the pistons are in the extended positions. An impact on the bumper beam causes the pistons to move inside the cylindrical bores, increasing the gas pressure up to the critical pressure value and changing the state of the gas to a liquid.

A non-pressurized bumper comprises an elastomeric member having an impact face and rearwardly extending upper, lower and side walls forming inner surfaces connected by reinforcing ribs, which walls terminate in a partially discontinuous bead; a closure plate is received within the member and abuts the inner surfaces of the walls adjacent the bead; a clamp mounts the bead on the closure plate. The face, walls and closure plate form a cavity which is vented directly to the atmosphere by vent means comprising a valve in the closure plate, and a space between the wall at a discontinuous bead portion and the closure plate, created by escape of air upon impact; a plurality of the aforesaid reinforcing ribs normally are out of contact with the closure plate. A bumper system for an automotive vehicle includes several piston rods, which are connected to a bumper beam at several joints, from one side, and each is connected to a piston from the other side. Each piston is fitted in a cylindrical bore to retain a certain amount of compressed gas and is movable along a straight line from an extended to a reacted position. Pistons are provided with locking mechanisms that allow them to move in one direction only; from the extended to the retracted positions. A temperature control system is provided to maintain the gas temperature within a curtain range. The vehicle travels while the pistons are in the extended position. An impact on the bumper beam causes the pistons to move inside the cylindrical bores, increasing the gas pressure up to the critical pressure value and changing the state of the gas to a liquid.

An external airbag safety system is provided. The airbag safety system embodied in the present invention is adapted to inflate externally around a vehicle or structure to lessen the impact of a collision. Each external airbag may be urged from a deflated stowed condition to an inflated deployed condition immediately prior the collision sensed by one or more of the sensors. In the stowed condition, the boundaries of the external airbags are mutually inclusive of the boundary of the associated vehicle or structure, while in the deployed condition the inflated airbag forms a shock-absorbing shape protruding operatively beyond the boundary of the associated vehicle or structure, thereby lessening the total destruction wrought from the imminent collision.

The elastic relief chamber is configured to temporarily accept the shear thickening fluid from the plurality of secondary deformable impact chambers during low force impacts, and to redirect the shear thickening fluid back to the secondary deformable impact chambers after the low impact force recedes.
