A rail road freight car truck has a truck bolster mounted transversely between a pair of side frames. The mounting interface between the wheelset axle ends and the sideframe pedestals allows self-restorative longitudinal rocking self-steering motion proportionately resisted as a function of displacement and of the vertical force carried at the interface. The center of rotation of the rocking motion is lower than the center of rotation of the axle. The interface may also permit lateral rocking swing motion of the sideframes. Auxiliary centering elements may be mounted in the pedestal seats. The auxiliary centering elements may be elastomeric. The truck may also have low stick-slip friction dampers, and may be provided with brake linings, or similar features. The friction dampers may be mounted in a four-cornered arrangement at each end of the truck bolster. 1. A self-steering rolling contact rocker fitting for installation as part of a wheelset to sideframe interface assembly mounted between a wheelset axle bearing and a sideframe pedestal of a rail road freight car truck , said rolling contact rocker fitting having a curved rolling contact rocking surface operable on installation to rock lengthwise relative to the sideframe , thereby to provide self-steering in the railroad car truck.2. When the railcar is stopped or when the railcar is traveling at a coupling speed, the control portion outputs the rotation signal to start rotating the coupler main body.

A steering mechanism for a rail vehicle includes two steering arms, each including a pair of support arms that have a joining component with a recess. The two steering arms are articulated in a manner that maintains a minimum separation between the steering arms so that the arms can rotate relative to one another. In one aspect of the present disclosure, a side bearing is provided for supporting a body of a rail car. There is a relief formed at the apex over the bearing race, so that vertical load is split to enter the casing to either side of top dead center.

Each wheel (4) is provided with a strut rod (9) extending in the direction of the wheel housing, which is coupled respectively on one end to a wheel support (3) by means of coupling points (8, 10), adjacent to an associated wheel (4), and to the load-bearing carrier (1) on the end thereof. The pairs of wheels can turn in respect of the load-bearing carrier. In order to achieve a turning movement of the pair of wheels for a curved radial adjustment dependent upon the radius of the curved track currently travelled upon, the strut rods (9) are respectively coupled directly to the coupling points (10) directly on the load-bearing carrier (1). The coupling points (10) of the strut rods (9) of at least one pair of wheels (4, 4) on the load-bearing carrier (1) are located above the coupling points (8) of the strut rods (9) on the associated wheel support (3) in relation to the plane determined by the contact points (6) of the wheels (4) on the tracks (7) if the strut rods (9) are orientated in the direction of the wheel housing towards a central area between two pairs of wheels.

ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE This invention relates to railway vehicles of the kind having at least two wheel-sets, each with a live axle mounted in a respective pair of axle bearings, at least one axle bearing of one wheel-set being elastically interconnected with at least one axle bearing of the other wheel-set through bracing means providing bracing between the wheel-sets. According to one aspect of the invention said bracing means comprise a frame structure for each wheel-set which extends transversely of the vehicle and is rigidly connected between axle boxes housing said axle bearings of its respective wheel-set, said frame structures being shaped and arranged so as to be connected together by said elastic connection at a level, which is below the axle height of the vehicle. Preferably said elastic connection is at a level well below said axle height, and a bolster is located within the space so provided. According to another aspect of the invention, the vehicle has side frames connected to respective axle boxes via a primary spring mounting and is characterised in that each said side frame is of fabricated construction comprising a bridge member of I-section from which a sub-frame depends, said bridge member and sub-frame defining a space therebetween into which respective side flanges of a bolster project, each said side flange being supported by the respective sub-frame via a secondary spring mounting. According to a further aspect of the invention, each said axle box is fabricated to provide a bearing support surface which is semi-circular or less, for supporting a cartridge bearing, and the cartridge bearing is rigidly fixed in position by a part-circular strap appropriately fixed on the axle box and tightened down onto said cartridge bearing.

Steering railway bogie

The present invention is directed to a railway bogie with a mounted vehicle body including a frame; a plurality of wheelsets and steering linkages linking the wheelsets so that the wheelsets can cooperate to be in steering alignment. The bogie has a wheelset body linkage pivotally connecting the steering linkages with the bogie body so to position the body relative to the wheelsets and two alignment rams to position the body relative to the frame. The bogie also has sensors for monitoring the yaw angle and yaw velocity. The sensor input is then processed to estimate track curvature and determine the train speed and yaw velocity of the vehicle body. The processor then actuates the alignment rams to adjust the position of the body relative to the frame in response to the track curvature and current frame positions to minimize wheel contact creepage and maximize bogie stability.
