[Class 24] The links of a roller chain are connected by bushes traversed by rivets for connecting the adjacent links, the rivets having sufficient clearance to permit shortening of the chain due to the pressure of an endless spring mounted on the chain or of a number of separate springs distributed along the chain. In the form shown, links 1 side by side are connected in pairs by bushes 2 forming bearings for rollers 4 and having cylindrical apertures 6 to receive rivets 5, which also connect together the adjacent outer links 7. The curvature of the rivets 5 at their contact surfaces corresponcls to the inner periphery of the bushes 2 in the apertures 6 of which they are movable. An endless spring 9 is disposed about the chain and maintained in position by extensions 8 on the links 1. In a modification several short springs are used, each connecting links a short distance apart.

Elle présente plus précisément un mécanisme permettant d'augmenter le nombre de couronnes utilisées sur les transmissions à chaîne. Le mécanisme, selon l'invention, permet de faire varier la distance entre deux couronnes dentées adjacentes, en fonction des rapports de transmission sélectionnés. Cette variation de distance entre deux couronnes dentées adjacentes est obtenue par le déplacement de la tige de commande 17 donc du sélecteur 22 qui lui est lié. Le déplacement du sélecteur 22 engendre la mise en rotation des trois roues de commande 23. La rotation des trois roues de commande 23 permet la mise en contact des lobes de ces dernières avec la base de la couronne 78 puis le déplacement continu de celle-ci.

The present invention provides a chain wheel assembly and chain wheel device using it, wherein the chain wheel device includes a driver, a switching sleeve, plural chain wheels with different diameter sizes, plural connectors, and a fastener. Therein, the driver is connected to a wheel hub of a back wheel of a bicycle for transmitting a torque. One end of the switching sleeve is screwed to the driver. The chain wheels, axially stacked from the largest one to the smallest one, are disposed in a direction from the driver toward the switching sleeve, with sprockets disposed on the periphery of each chain wheel, respectively, for optionally engaging chain. The ring-shaped connectors are coupled between each two of the chain wheels, respectively. The fastener is screwed to the other end of the switching sleeve for axially fixing the switching sleeve. 1. When the wheel is removed from the frame, it is removed along with the cassette. Furthermore, removing the wheel is a tedious procedure because the chain must be removed from the cassette which is placed on the wheel.In the present invention, these issues are addressed by placing the cassette on the frame so that it resides outside of the area between the left and right chain stays. This creates a more-efficient transmission of energy from the rider's legs to the spinning of the wheel.Referring to the drawing, the cassette is placed on the frame and located outside of the area between the left and right chain stays . The wheel resides between the left and right chain stays and turns in reaction to the cassette by means of an axle . The chain runs through the rear derailleur and then over the cassette .

A bicycle cassette comprises two segments that are attached together thereby forming a composite cassette that can be attached to a rear bicycle hub driver body. The bicycle cassette allows for the use of a smaller sprocket on one segment of the cassette because the smaller sprockets can overhang the hub driver body.
