A device for dispensing an individual plastic fastener from a supply of fastener stock includes a motor-driven head assembly adapted to receive the supply of fastener stock, sever an individual fastener from the supply and in turn eject the severed fastener. The head assembly includes a pair of needle block assemblies that retain corresponding hollow needles, each needle block assembly being shaped to define a feed channel that transitions a side rail for the fastener stock into axial alignment behind its corresponding needle. In addition, at least one needle block assembly includes a rearward shelf and a forward bowing plate. In use, the lowermost cross-links of the fastener stock fittingly align between the shelf and the bowing plate. In this manner, the lowermost cross-links are limited to distort uniformly upward within the single plane defined by the pair of feed channels, thereby optimizing feed reliability of the device.

An improved hand tool for dispensing plastic fasteners having a novel anvil design. The hand tool has a gun shaped casing with a barrel portion and a handle portion. A fastener assembly for coupling together two or more articles includes a plastic fastener and an anchoring member. The plastic fastener includes a pair of parallel cross-bars that are interconnected by a transverse filament. The anchoring member is constructed as a unitary, solid, plastic disc with opposing flattened surfaces. In use, the anchoring member is disposed against an outer surface of the articles to be coupled together. During the fastener dispensing process, the ejected cross-bar penetrates through the articles as well as the anchoring member. Upon completion, the ejected cross-bar lies directly upon the exposed surface of the anchoring member. As such, the stiffened anchoring member provides structural integrity to articles that are deformable in construction. In this manner, the anchoring member prevents intact removal of a dispensed fastener by either intentional or unintentional widening of the hole in the articles through which the fastener extends. 1. In another embodiment, the plastic fastener is constructed using a mixture of at least one flexible plastic material and at least one adhesive material. A scale can be used to weigh the material and a printer can create a label, with the weight or whatever other information is desired, for attachment to the netting.

An identification tag applicator is provided, which is especially suited to applying identification tags to animals. The applicator comprises a body (12) which has a driving rod housing (20) in which a driving rod (24) is slidably engaged. The driving rod (24) has a driving surface (28) adapted to receive a tag (60) which is to be applied. The applicator also has a trigger member (14) which is pivotably attached to the body (12). The trigger member (14) includes a connecting pin (46) which is adapted to selectively engage the trigger member (14) with the driving rod (24). A release mechanism automatically returns the driving rod (24) to a retracted position when the driving surface (28) of the rod (24) reaches a predetermined distance from the housing (20). The release mechanism ensures that the driving rod (24) is immediately retracted out of the way as soon as the tag is applied.

PROCEDURE AND DEVICE FOR THE APPLICATION OF A LABEL TO AN ARTICLE ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION Procedure and device for application of a label to an article by means of an elastic fastening element. A label is separated from a magazine and conveyed via a guide towards a tube-shaped slit needle. The label is passed along the tip of the needle until the latter penetrates a pre-punched hole in the label. Thereafter, the label is withdrawn, threaded on the needle, and partly back into the magazine where it is retained. The tip of the needle is pressed through an article whereupon a retaining element is separated from a stem and its head is passed through the needle and thus also through the label and the article, When the needle is removed from the article the label remains hanging, anchored in the retaining element.

A method and device (10) for delivering a remotely detectable tag (94) for tagging an article; the method comprises the steps of: (a) advancing a continuous pressure sensitive tape (26) from a first source (44) such that said tape (26) travels along a first path, the tape (20) having an adhesive side (25) and an opposed non-adhesive side (27), (b) advancing a continuous sensor element substrate (30) of a remotely detectable material from a second source (30) and into adhering engagement with the adhesive side (25) of said tape (26) so as to form a composite tagging tape (39) downstream of the first and second sources (24, 28), (c) advancing the tagging tape (39) along the first path so as to provide a free protruding forward end portion of tagging tape, and (d) severing the forward end portion as a tag (94) of the pressure sensitive tape (96) bearing a sensor element (98) of the substrate (30) on the adhesive side (100) of the tape (96). The method and device particulars provide for stiffening the tagging tape (39) to facilitate advancing the tape (39) with the free forward end portion; a replacement cartridge (12) and an applicator (14) which are components of the device (10) from separate aspects of the invention.

A tool (24) for dispensing plastic fasteners (13) from a fastener clip (11), each plastic fastener (13) in the fastener clip (11) having a cross bar (17) coupled to a common runner bar (20) by a stub (21). The tool (24) comprises a gun shaped casing (25). A guide groove (39) extends down from the top for receiving the fastener clip. A hollow slotted needle (40) is mounted in the front of the gun shaped casing (25). An ejector slide (55) and feed slide (59) are disposed within the gun shaped casing (25) and movable back and forth therein. A feed cam (63) is disposed inside the casing is rotably mounted at one place onto the casing and pivotally mounted at another place onto the feed slide (59). The feed cam (63) includes a front surface having a pair of outwardly extending spaced apart pins. A feed pawl (65) is disposed on the feed cam (63) between the pair of pins, the feed pawl (65) having a tooth for engaging the stub of a plastic fastener so that the cross bar is advanced into alignment with the inlet opening of the hollow needle (40).

A method of providing information relating to an article of commerce includes the steps of providing a unitary plastic fastener with the information relating to the article being formed therein and tagging the fastener to the article, such as using a conventional tagger gun. The unitary plastic fastener includes a filament, a paddle at one end of the filament, and a cross-bar at the other end of the filament. The paddle of the fastener is either embossed, cut-out and/or shaped to display the information relating to the article to which the fastener is to be attached. Types of information which may be formed into the paddle of the fastener include, among other things, a brand name associated with the article, a company name associated with the article, a logo associated with the article, size information relating to the article, instructional information relating to use of the article, identification information relating to the article, and certification information relating to the article.

Abstract of the Disclosure A tag attaching apparatus in which the push rod is advanced by the trigger lever operation into the hollow needle provided to the front portion of the body so as to cut off one by one the tag pins from the tag pin assembly. The feeding means for the tag pin assembly consists of a support plate moved by operation of the trigger lever and a feed lever oscillatably mounted to the support plate. A backtracking prevention means provided adjacent to the feeding means uses a spring to urge the stopper claw at the front end thereof to project into the guide groove.
