Das Schlittenelement besitzt eine Queröffnung zur Aufnahme einer endseitigen Schlaufe des Windenseiles, wobei ein in dem Gehäuse angeordnetes in Zugrichtung wirkendes Trennmesser innerhalb der Schlaufe in Querrichtung zur Schlaufe angeordnet ist sowie über eine Nut des Schlittenelementes geführt wird. Durch die einwirkenden Kräfte auf das Gehäuse über den Seilgleiter und das Windenseil ist bei Überlast eine Durchtrennung des Windenseiles über das Trennmesser selbsttätig einstellbar.

A pre-failure warning indicator is provided for use with a sling. The pre-failure warning indicator triggers at a point that is predictable within a relatively narrow range, thereby increasing the possibility that a damaged sling is removed from use. The pre-failure warning indicator includes a dedicated strand of material that is placed in close proximity to the load-bearing core yarns of the sling but remains separate and independent from the core yarns; the ends of the dedicated strand are connected via a sacrificial "ring." A warning fiber having an end that is visible to operators/riggers works in conjunction with the sacrificial strand and the ring. The ring is designed to fail when the sling is subjected to a specifically chosen condition (e.g., excessive weight). The failure of the ring causes the warning fiber to withdraw from the rigger's view thereby warning the rigger that the sling was subjected to the specifically chosen condition and may be damaged.

When loading logs onto ships, the overhead frame is attached to the ship's gear for use. For loading, the frame is lowered and a load of logs is surrounded at spaced apart locations with the wire slings. At each end of a wire sling is an eye which is secured within a releasable hook mounted in pairs on the frame. A sliding snap hook fixed to one eye of each sling is hooked to the opposite eye so as to form a continuous sling about the logs. The load is then lifted into the ship and placed after which the releasable hooks release the continuous wire slings allowing theload of logs to conform to the volume where it is placed. The fibre rope includes a plurality of magnets that are embedded within the fibre rope and spaced apart along the rope with a known axial distance between the magnets. The system may include a fibre rope hoisting speed sensor, and a magnetic field sensor that can sense the presence of the magnetic field of the embedded magnets. Using the sensors, the hoisting speed of the rope may be determined by: measuring the time between the passing of consecutive magnets by using the magnetic field sensor; calculating the distance between consecutive magnets using the hoisting speed sensor and the measured time between the passing of the consecutive magnets; and comparing the calculated distance between the magnets with an original, predefined distance between the magnets.

Jack units attach skates to an object to be moved. Each jack unit has a tongue that slidably engages a coupling slot affixed to the object, and can be operated to raise or lower the tongue; when raised, the object is supported on the skates and can be rolled to a new location. A crane can attach to lift eyes on the jack units to allow the system to be lifted with the skates attached to the object, avoiding the risk to operators of positioning the skates under the object while it is suspended. Rotation-limiting structures can be selectively employed to block rotation of the trailing skates to facilitate steering when rolling the object supported by the system. The coupling slots can be provided in coupling elements which can attach directly to the object or which can be employed to form a freestanding frame to which the object is secured.
