Radiation source assembly

Номер: US20120153183A1
Принадлежит: Trojan Technologies Inc Canada

There is described In another of its aspects, the present invention provides a radiation source assembly comprising: (i) an elongate radiation source; (ii) a positioning element connected to a proximal portion of the elongate radiation source; and (iii) a connecting portion secured to a proximal portion of the positioning element and configured to engage a support element to maintain a distal portion of the elongate radiation source in a cantilevered position. The present radiation source assembly is configured such that the distal portion of the radiation source is cantilevered with the respect to the distal portion of the protective sleeve in which it is disposed. This feature obviates the need to use spacers, stops, springs and the like in a distal portion of the protective sleeve to maintain correct position of the radiation source within the protective sleeve. Further, the present radiation source assembly is advantageous in that allows for withdrawal of the radiation source from the radiation source assembly without the need to disengage all of the components. Thus, it is possible to replace a single radiation source by removing it from the protective sleeve during operation of the fluid treatment system. This operation can be accomplished quickly without the need to shut down the fluid treatment system or otherwise compensate for the fact that one of the radiation source is being serviced.

Method and apparatus for treating materials using electrodeless lamps

Номер: US20120161031A1
Автор: David Richard Necamp
Принадлежит: Individual

The output wavelengths of an electrodeless lamp are controlled by passing a fluid over the surface of the lamp to control its temperature. The stabilized temperature prevents thermal runaway of the lamp and stabilizes the output wavelengths of the lamp. When the fluid passing over the lamp is water, the lamp can be used for sanitary treatment of the water. The treatment can be enhanced by shaping the electrodeless lamp to provide maximally effective water treatment.

Uv irradiation apparatus

Номер: US20120261595A1
Автор: Hideo Kado, Tsuyoshi INUI
Принадлежит: Panasonic Electric Works SUNX Co Ltd

In a memory unit 6, there is stored a correction table for each candidate value of an output set value of each of LED units 2. If UV rays have ever been emitted so far by the LED units 2, each of which is formed of a plurality of LED chips 8, then a PLC 5 acquires, upon setting of a output set value by an operation unit 53, a correction value corresponding to a cumulative emission time up to a previous emission, from the correction table of the output set value. Thereafter, the PLC 5 sets the magnitude of the power supplied to each of the LED units 2 using the acquired correction value. If an output set value different from a previous output set value is set, the PLC 5 obtains the correction value starting from the cumulative emission time upon modification. As a result, the UV irradiation apparatus enables power consumption necessary for emission of UV rays to be reduced, and UV ray output to be kept constant regardless of the cumulative emission time, even if the output set value is modified.

Methods for the treatment of ballast water

Номер: US20130056648A1
Принадлежит: Fahs Stagemyer LLC

A process has been developed to selectively dissociate target molecules into component products compositionally distinct from the target molecule, wherein the bonds of the target molecule do not reform because the components are no longer reactive with each other. Dissociation is affected by treating the target molecule with light at a frequency and intensity, alone or in combination with a catalyst in an amount effective to selectively break bonds within the target molecule. Dissociation does not result in re-association into the target molecule by the reverse process, and does not produce component products which have a change in oxidation number or state incorporated oxygen or other additives because the process does not proceed via a typical reduction-oxidation mechanism. This process can be used for the remediation of water, particularly ballast water.

The invention relates to an electric machine (fixed, mobile or portable) suitable to the physical, dynamic, continuous conditioning of materials having the ability to absorb electromagnetic radiation, which have the need to be treated through the irradiation of UV or IR, even without entering into contact with the machine and this also through the vacuum. The invention mainly uses the Lambert and Stefan-Boltzmann postulates, or rather the physical assumptions of the transmission of energy by radiation and in particular the concentration and the emission proximity of energy between transmitter and receiver (which varies with the square of the distance) and the emission intensity (which varies with the fourth power of the temperature). The extremely small distances between transmitter and receiver of electromagnetic energy and the cylindrical shape and concentric electromagnetic emission source (reflected from the outside towards the centre) are the main essence and novelty of the invention. The electric machine, the section of which is represented in the attached drawing of which are hereby provided in the description the letters as a reference, is composed of a suitable current generator that feeds an emitter of electromagnetic waves (EMW) represented by a coiled heating wire (heater function) or by a strip of LEDs (germicidal function) (E), which envelops a fused quartz tube (or a substitute material) of suitable thickness (D), which in turn can contain an internal (or more) further tube (C) of the same or similar transparent material of the first, adapted to the passage of materials to be treated (A); the tube (D) wrapped with the spiral emitter (E) is in turn encased by a tube (F) in suitably appropriate material to shield electromagnetic emissions towards the outside. Such screening tube will (eventually) in turn be inserted in a relatively thick insulating cup (G), coated in turn with reflecting material (H), to further isolate and insulate the system as much ...

Принадлежит: Individual

The present disclosure deals with is a combination of interconnected innovative technologies for exploiting the advantages of closed cyclic chain reactions on a global scale to solve the contemporary problem of carbon emissions and the earth's diminishing raw resources associated with fossil fuelled power generation and widespread dumping practices. As a first step the surest way to challenge the present monopoly of the fossil fuel industry is to exploit the full potential of photosynthesising processes, whereby carbon remains the key chemical element for fulfilling the needs of contemporary and future civilisations and whereby the means will be available to control the concentration of green house gases at optimal levels in the environment. Envisaged are global recycling trading schemes based on captive carbon processes and systems for the conversion of existing fossil fuelled power stations to cyclic global power generation using photosynthesised fuel, whereby emitted carbon gases are recycled to sites of photosynthesis for further fuel production thereby creating closed cyclic trading systems with the possibility of completely eliminating global greenhouse gas emissions into the environment from power generation. The further innovations of the present disclosure consist of alternatives to fossilised carbon for transport based on global cyclic photosynthesising systems as well as the production of potable water and a host of carbon based commodities such as furnishings, textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and food production to achieve maximum mitigation of environmental pollution combined with economically viable carbon-based processes.
