Process for desalination of seawater and removal of CO2 in exhaust.

Номер: AP0000001566A
Принадлежит:

The invention relates to desalination of seawater and of brackish water and removal of harmful CO2 gas in exhaust from combustion apparatuses. The exhaust, rich in carbon dioxide (CO2) is diverted to a process chamber, where seawater, after being mixed with ammonia, as a catalyst to weaken the salt molecules, is pumped into the chamber and dispersed at many points near the top as a fine spray, exposing the salt to the CO2 gas there. The internal bonds of the salt molecules (NaC1) are weakened by the ammonia in the water attaching and pulling on their C1 atom. The CO2 in the chamber is attaching and pulling on the Na atom of the salt molecules and further reduces the bond, breaking them apart. Two heavy solids are formed and are removed in a clarifier below. Desalinated seawater in large quantities per ton of salt, over flows from the clarifier, for use in communities and for agriculture. Therewith is also harmful CO2 in the exhaust removed, before being discharged from the process chamber ...

Treatment of water

Номер: AU2011201269B2
Принадлежит:

A process for treating impure water includes adding magnesium hydroxide 5 and/or ammonium hydroxide to the water. This neutralizes the impure water and reacts with dissolved metals in the water. The metals are precipitated as metal hydroxides/oxides, which are removed from the water. Thereafter barium hydroxide is added to the water. The barium hydroxide reacts with dissolved sulphates to produce barium sulphate and, when magnesium hydroxide is 10 used, with dissolved magnesium, to produce magnesium hydroxide. Barium sulphate and, when present, magnesium hydroxide are removed from the water. When ammonium hydroxide is used, ammonia is stripped from the water. Carbon dioxide is then added to the water. The carbon dioxide reacts with dissolved calcium in the water. The calcium is precipitated as calcium 15 carbonate, which is removed from the water. 2809667_I (GHMater) P80728 AU C'\N ...

The method includes the second step of filtering the effluent stream of treated wastewater containing the filterable flocs of aluminium phosphate, to provide an effluent stream of water typically containing about 0.03 mg/l phosphorus to as low and lower than current detection limits for total phosphorous (i.e., commonly < 0.01 mg/l and as low as < 0.002 mg/l). HOG MANURE TREATMENT SYSTEM

Принадлежит:

The invention relates to a method of treating manure such that odour from the manure is significantly reduced or eliminated and producing therefrom recyclable water, value-added biosolids and ammonia. Specifically, the manure is combined with lime at high pH. The material is mixed under negative pressure and the basic conditions cause ammonia to be evolved from the manure which is then drawn off and recovered. A coagulating agent is then added which further promotes floc formation within the manure. Following further mixing, flocs are separated from the liquid portion. A struvite-promoting chemical and a coagulant are then added to the liquid portion which causes further floc formation, and the flocs are again separated from the substantially clear liquid. It is of note that as a result of this process, the solids are highly hydrophobic and dry very quickly. It is of further note that solids isolated from either step can be combined and sold, for example, as fertilizer, as discussed below ...

Fail Safe Flushing BioReactor for Selenium Water Treatment

Номер: US20210061690A1
Принадлежит: Frontier Water Systems LLC

A biological reactor system treats concentrated contaminated water with a combination of upflow and downflow bioreactors that are downstream from a reverse osmosis or other concentrator. The system may have a fail safe configuration where flush water may be introduced to the reactors in the event of a power failure or when taking the reactors offline. Many reverse osmosis systems introduce antiscalant treatments upstream so that the reverse osmosis filters do not scale. However, such treatments result in superconcentrated conditions of the antiscalants in the contaminated water processed by the bioreactors. A flushing system may deconcentrate the bioreactors to prevent the antiscalants from precipitating and fouling the bioreactors.

A method of treating a mixture of microorganisms containing phosphorus and magnesium, by first inducing the mixture microorganisms to release phosphorus and magnesium. Next an emancipation or elutriation is performed. Phosphorus and magnesium-rich liquid is then tapped off as the mixture is thickened, to produce phosphorus and magnesium-rich liquid and phosphorus and magnesium-reduced treated mixture. This treated mixture is placed in an anaerobic digester where ammonia is formed but combines very little with phosphorus or magnesium as these elements have been reduced in concentration. Then the high-ammonia mixture is dewatered, to produce an ammonia-rich liquid, which is combined with the phosphorus and magnesium-rich liquid. In one preferred example a useable struvite product is harvested from this combination. Additionally, the production of nuisance struvite in the anaerobic digester is reduced, in comparison with prior art waste treatment methods.

Process of purifying a residue with calcium ions

Номер: US20140238942A1
Принадлежит: SOLVAY SA

The present invention relates to a process of purifying a residue from an industrial process using calcium ions to obtain a purified brine, comprising: (a) mixing the residue comprising sulfate salts from the industrial process with calcium salts; (b) separating insoluble species and/or precipitates from the suspension from (a); (c) adding one or more selected from C0 2 , carbonates, bicarbonates, hydrogen carbonates or fluorinated salts into the filtrate from (b) to remove excess calcium ions; and (d) separating precipitates from the suspension from (c) to obtain a purified brine. Strontium and/or barium salts, which typically exist in the residue, may also be removed from the residue by using the present process. According to the present method, calcium ions are effectively removed from the brine. Thus, a deposition of calcium ions on devices, which are used in the further processes such as crystallization or electrolysis, can be avoided. At the same time, the amount of barium and strontium ions in the brine is reduced significantly. As such, the purified brine can be simply achieved with high purity and low cost in an industrial scale.

A system for treatment of water

Номер: US20200149262A1
Автор: Bernard Amell, Cory Albers
Принадлежит: Nautilus Ventures Ipco Inc.

Surface water, such as stormwater, is contained in a pond, or other containment having primary semi-isolated treatment areas constructed, or designated therein, which are suitable for establishing ecological communities for treatment of water within the containment. Water for treatment is induced to flow through the semi-isolated areas and the ecological communities therein for treating the water, such as by bio-filtering, breakdown and bioremediation of water-soluble or hydrocarbon-based contaminants and inhibition of the proliferation of waterborne pathogens. The treated water is then discharged from the semi-isolated areas, such as for use downstream. Discharge of the treated water from the primary semi-isolated treatment areas, as well as the use of pump systems, induces the flow of water through the semi-isolated areas and ecological communities therein to effect the treatment. Ecological communities may be established in relatively shallow secondary treatment areas in the containment and the recirculation of water therethrough may further act to treat the water in the containment.

A closed system and method for efficient separation, drying, pasteurization and disposal of water treatment facility sludge effluent substantially reduces its water content, and thereby its volume and weight. A separator directs influent sludge into hydrocyclones that spin the sludge, separating most of the water into an upper chamber and dropping the solids into a lower chamber surrounded by an oil bath shell which heats and denatures the solids. Forced air through a venturi creates a vacuum in the lower chamber, causing much of the remaining water to vaporize and drawing the solids out onto a conveyor. Another oil bath shell surrounding the conveyor further heats the solids, while heated air forced across the solids further dries them while evacuating the vapor. The resulting dried sludge cake contains as little as ten (10%) percent water, while the closed system deters escape of odors and corrosive vapors. 1.
