The present invention aims to provide a metal mold for glass, which needs not apply any swab in molding of glass, enabling no-swabbing glass forming. The alloy for the mold comprises by weight Cu: 10 to 80%, Al: 4 to 11%, Cr: 3 to 16%, Ni: 2 to 36%, and at least one rare earth element: 0.02 to 2.0% with the balance consisting of Fe and further comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of Ti: Al%×0.5 to 2, V: Al%×0.2 to 1, Zr: Al%×0.1 to 0.3, and Nb: Al%×0.1 to 0.3. The alloy is gradually cooled from the solidification initiation temperature to 50° C. at a cooling rate of 10° C./ min. The surface of the mold is coated with an Al-containing coating or roughened to an average roughness of 0.3 to 5 μm. A solid lubricating film is provided in a fitting portion of the mold, or alternatively a self-lubricating solid is embedded in the fitting portion of the mold.

A molten-glass second gob of a second glass color is deposited into the mold over the partially-inflated first gob. The introduction of a second quantity of gas into the gob cavity within the mold forms the first and second gobs into a single, multi-tone vessel of predetermined shape.

A neck mold for a glass champagne bottle forming system for forming bottles on the well-known I.S. forming machine is made of two matching halves that form the transfer bead and lower portion of the neck of the bottle mates with an annular, one-piece guide ring carried by the neck ring. The annular guide ring has a relatively sharp edge that matches with the plunger that forms the interior of the bottle finish and also has a flat surface, adjacent the sharp edge, that extends at a 25° angle with the horizontal and forms a planar sloping surface on the inner, upper surface of the bottle with the planar surface being joined to a flat, generally horizontal surface that extends to a curved surface that in turn extends over the top of the bottle finish to an outer annular line where the guide and neck ring mold meet. The resulting bottle produced is one which does not require fire polishing to remove any mold match lines or beads that might interfere with proper sealing of the corks.

The present invention aims to provide a metal mold for glass, which needs not apply any swab in molding of glass, enabling no-swabbing glass forming. The alloy for the mold comprises by weight Cu: 10 to 80%, Al: 4 to 11%, Cr: 3 to 16%, Ni: 2 to 36%, and at least one rare earth element: 0.02 to 2.08 with the balance consisting of Fe and further comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of Ti: Al %×0.5 to 2, V: Al %×0.2 to 1, Zr: Al %×0.1 to 0.3, and Nb: Al %×0.1 to 0.3. The alloy is gradually cooled from the solidification initiation temperature to 500° C. at a cooling rate of 10° C./min. The surface of the mold is coated with an Al-containing coating or roughened to an average roughness of 0.3 to 5 μm. A solid lubricating film is provided in a fitting portion of the mold, or alternatively a self-lubricating solid is embedded in the fitting portion of the mold.

A method of fabricating a multi-tone glass vessel includes depositing a molten-glass first gob of a first glass color into a mold having a lower end and an upper end. An initial quantity of gas is injected into the mold in order to form a gob cavity within the first gob and cause the first gob to partially inflate and expand toward the upper end of the mold. A molten-glass second gob of a second glass color is deposited into the mold over the partially-inflated first gob. The introduction of a second quantity of gas into the gob cavity within the mold forms the first and second gobs into a single, multi-tone vessel of predetermined shape. 1. The present invention aims to provide a metal mold for glass, which needs not apply any swab in molding of glass, enabling no-swabbing glass forming. The alloy for the mold comprises by weight Cu: 10 to 80%, Al: 4 to 11%, Cr: 3 to 16%, Ni: 2 to 36%, and at least one rare earth element: 0.02 to 2.0% with the balance consisting of Fe and further comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of Ti: Al%×0.5 to 2, V: Al%×0.2 to 1, Zr: Al%×0.1 to 0.3, and Nb: Al%×0.1 to 0.3. The alloy is gradually cooled from the solidification initiation temperature to 50° C. at a cooling rate of 10° C./ min. The surface of the mold is coated with an Al-containing coating or roughened to an average roughness of 0.3 to 5 μm. A solid lubricating film is provided in a fitting portion of the mold, or alternatively a self-lubricating solid is embedded in the fitting portion of the mold.

Method and apparatus for forming glass containers by the blow and blow process in which a parison mold and blow mold are positioned relative to each other, such that parisons can be transferred by an invert arm. The parisons are formed with their necks down in the parison mold from a charge of glass delivered thereto, and vacuum is applied to the neck mold to settle the molten glass in the neck mold about a special neck pin to thereby form the finish portion of the container. The neck pin is pulled and counterblow of the charge into parison form is accomplished and the parison is transferred from the parison mold to the blow mold where it is expanded into final shape. The parison mold is coated with a "solid film lubricant" which provides a surface that has an insulating effect and requires less "swabbing" over its useable life. A plunger that has a tip that produces less heat removal for the time it is in contact with the charge or gob of glass is used and purging of the vacuum passages in the plunger is carried out each cycle.

Method and apparatus for forming glass containers by the blow and blow process in which a parison mold and blow mold are positioned relative to each other, such that parisons can be transferred by an invert arm. The parisons are formed with their necks down in the parison mold from a charge of glass delivered thereto, and vacuum is applied to the neck mold to settle the molten glass in the neck mold about a special neck pin to thereby form the finish portion of the container. The neck pin is pulled and counterblow of the charge into parison form is accomplished and the parison is transferred from the parison mold to the blow mold where it is expanded into final shape. The parison mold is coated with a "solid film lubricant" which provides a surface that has an insulating effect and requires less "swabbing" over its useable life. A plunger that has a tip that produces less heat removal for the time it is in contact with the charge or gob of glass is used and purging of the vacuum passages in the plunger is carried out each cycle.

The bottle is molded from a tub-shaped glass preform. The molding assembly comprises a bottle mouth former (10) and a finishing mold (13). These molding tools (10, 13) are centered relative to each other in a novel manner. On closing the finishing mold, relative centering and interlocking, take place directly. The finishing mold has two mold halves (11, 12). During closure, these are moved together, to meet at a plane of separation. Centering takes place in such a manner that no glass material from the preform is nipped in the plane of separation. The mouth former is centered against the finishing mold in relation to the plane of separation, preferably at the center of the plane of separation. Centering takes place such that the longitudinal central axis (21) of the mouth former and the plane of separation coincide with the longitudinal central axis of the finishing mold. The mouth former is centered and interlocked by guide surfaces (22) running transversely to the plane of separation, preferably on an axis lying within the plane of separation. Durch diese mittige Zentrierung des Mündungswerkzeugs (10) zur Trennebene (16) kann beim Schließen der Formhälften (11, 12) der Fertigform (13) kein Glas in der Trennebene (16) eingeklemmt werden. These wings represent a sharp-edged ridge on the bottleneck (18), which makes the bottle useless. The invention provides for centering a finished mold (13) serving for the production of the bottle and a mouth tool (10) in a form-fitting manner relative to one another. This centering is carried out so that the longitudinal center axes of the necking tool (10) and the finished mold (13) lie on a common line which runs centrally through a parting plane (16) of the finished mold (13). By this central centering of the necking tool (10) to the parting plane (16), no glass in the parting plane (16) can be clamped when closing the mold halves (11, 12) of the finished mold (13). As a result, the formation of the bottle unusable making wings is avoided.
