The aqueous cleaners noted above rival or outperform commercial baselines in a Gardner straight- line washability test. Industrial degreasers comprising a C10 or C12 amide solvent and derived from a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid are superior to commercial standards.

Alkoxylated fatty ester compositions are disclosed. При этом взаимодействие указанной смеси с бензилхлоридом ведут при их массовом соотношении (1,57-1, 87):1. Желательно использовать бензилхлорид, очищенный перегонкой при атмосферном давлении и температуре 177-178oС. Halo-ethyl trimethyl ammonium halides are made by reacting a 1,2-dihaloethane with trimethylamine in the presence of an amount of water and at a temperature and pressure sufficient to form a homogeneous solution with at least part of the reactants in the absence of product, and sufficient to dissolve the product to form an aqueous layer containing the product and a separate layer containing a substantial portion of any unreacted starting material. Preferred reaction temperatures are 100-150 DEG C. If the reactant is 1,2-dichloroethane, 20-30% by weight water, based on organic reactants, is employed. Examples relate to the preparation of 2-chloroethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride.

Esteramine compositions and their derivatives are disclosed. The esteramines comprise a reaction product of a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives with a tertiary alkanolamine. Derivatives made by quaternizing, sulfonating, alkoxylating, sulfating, and/or sulfitating the esteramines are also disclosed. In one aspect, the ester derivative of the C10-C17 monounsaturated acid or octadecene-1,18-dioic acid is a lower alkyl ester. In other aspects, the ester derivative is a modified triglyceride made by self-metathesis of a natural oil or an unsaturated triglyceride made by cross-metathesis of a natural oil with an olefin. The esteramines and derivatives are valuable for a wide variety of end uses, including cleaners, fabric treatment, hair conditioning, personal care (liquid cleansing products, conditioning bars, oral care products), antimicrobial compositions, agricultural uses, and oil field applications.

Long chain tertiary amines can be continuously converted into quaternary ammonium chlorides by passing the amines and alkyl chlorides over a metal oxide catalyst having Lewis acid sites. Preferred amines are dihydrogenatedtallowalkylmethylamine, dimethylcocoalkylamine, dicocoalkylmethylamine, didodecyl methylamine or tridodecylamine. Preferred catalysts comprise at least one oxide of a metal of Group IIA, IIIA, IIIB, IVA or IVB, such as oxide of silica, zirconia or titania, hafnium dioxide, alumina or a combination thereof.

Fatty amide compositions and their derivatives are disclosed. The fatty amides comprise a reaction product of a metathesis-derived C 10 -C 17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives with a primary or secondary amine. Derivatives made by reducing, quaternizing, sulfonating, alkoxylating, sulfating, and sulfitating the fatty amide are also included. The amine reactant can be diethylenetriamine or (2-aminoethyl)ethanolamine, which provide imidazoline amides or esters, respectively. In one aspect, the ester derivative of the C 10 -C 17 monounsaturated acid or octadecene-1,18-dioic acid is a lower alkyl ester. In other aspects, the ester derivative is a modified triglyceride made by self-metathesis of a natural oil or an unsaturated triglyceride made by cross-metathesis of a natural oil with an olefin. The compositions are valuable for cleaners, fabric treatment, hair conditioning, personal care, antimicrobial compositions, agricultural uses, and oil field applications.

Aqueous hard surface cleaner compositions derived from metathesized natural oil feedstocks are disclosed. In one aspect, the compositions comprise at least one anionic surfactant derived from a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, 5 octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives. In another aspect, aqueous hard surface cleaners comprising at least one nonionic or amphoteric surfactant derived from a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1, 18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives are disclosed. The aqueous cleaners noted above rival or outperform commercial baselines in a Gardner straight- line washability test. Industrial degreasers comprising a C10 or C12 amide solvent and derived from a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid are superior to commercial standards.

The present invention relates to a continuous process for the quaternisation of tertiary amines with an alkyl halide. The process is performed at a temperature between 50 °C and 140 °C by reacting a tertiary amine and an alkyl halide in a tubular reactor at a pressure sufficient to keep the alkyl halide dissolved in the reaction mixture. The molar ratio between the tertiary amine and the alkyl halide is from 1:1.3 to 1:2.9 and the pressure is suitably between 12 to 65 bar. The process could be performed either with or without a solvent present, preferably without a solvent. The process gives high product yields and low amounts of by-products.
