Кроме того, блок-сополимер этилена/α-олефина альтернативно характеризуется наличием, по меньшей мере, одной фракции, полученной фракционированием при элюировании с повышением температуры ("TREF"), где фракция обладает показателем блочности более приблизительно 0,3 и до приблизительно 1,0. This invention discloses a process for preparing a highly dispersed blend of a crystalline polymer in a rubbery elastomer which comprises (1) polymerizing at least one diene monomer in an organic solvent under solution polymerization conditions to form a polymer cement of the rubbery elastomer in the organic solvent, (2) polymerizing additional monomers in the polymer cement into the crystalline polymer to form a rubbery cement having the crystalline polymer dispersed therein, and (3) recovering the highly dispersed blend of the crystalline polymer in the rubbery elastomer from the organic solvent in the rubber cement.

The continuous polymerization of ethylene in two or more zones comprises passing ethylene through a first polymerization zone at a pressure of not less than 1600 atmospheres and a temperature of not less than 125‹ C. in the presence of a Ziegler type initiator and passing the mixture of polymer and unreacted monomer to a second zone at a pressure of at least 1600 atmospheres and a temperature higher than the lowest temperature in the first zone in the presence of a free-radical forming initiator, the combined conditions of temperature and pressure being such that the polymerization reaction takes place in a single fluid phase and the reaction mixture remains as a single fluid phase until removal from said zone. In the first zone the temperature is preferably from 145‹ to 220‹ C., and the residence time is not more than 6 minutes. A suitable Ziegler type initiator is one which causes at least 3,000 moles of ethylene to be polymerized per mole of Group 4A, 5A or 6A metal compound component of the initiator. The Ziegler type initiator which may have a particle size not exceeding 5 microns, may be protracted by polymerizing it in contact with an unbranched α-olefin containing at least 6 carbon atoms. A free radical forming initiator active at the temperature of the first zone, may be introduced into the first zone. Chain transfer agents, such as hydrogen, paraffins or α-olefins, may be present in the zones. In the example, ethylene containing hydrogen as a modifier, is polymerized in a two zone reaction. The Ziegler initiator was formed by mixing in pentamethyl heptane, aluminium diethyl chloride and titanium trichloride, and exposing this mixture to hexene-1, resulting in the formation on the catalyst of polyhexene. The free radical forming catalyst was tertiary butyl perbenzoate.

An adhesive composition comprises: (i) at least one ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer, (ii) at least one tackifÊer; and (iii) optionally at least one additive, such as a plasticizer, wax and antioxidant. Preferably, the ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer has a M w /M n from about 1.7 to about 3.5, at least one melting point, T m , in degrees Celsius, and a density, d, in grams/cubic centimeter, wherein the numerical values of T m and d correspond to the relationship: T m ≧858.91−1825.3( d )+1112.8( d ) 2 . The composition has relatively higher SAFT temperature and can be used in hot melt adhesives pressure-sensitive adhesives, and thermoplastic marking paints.

The present invention relates to a process for stopping and restarting polymerisation in a polymerisation system comprising a gas phase fluidised bed or stirred bed reactor, a degassing vessel and a seedbed storage silo, said process comprising the steps of: a) Conducting a first polymerisation reaction in the reactor using a first polymerisation catalyst system to produce a first polymer, b) Stopping the first polymerisation reaction and removing at least the majority of the first polymer in the reactor to the degassing vessel, and either: c1) Introducing from the seedbed storage silo and into the reactor a seed-bed compatible with a second polymerisation reaction, said seed-bed being of a different material to the first polymer, d1) Passing to the seedbed storage silo at least a portion of the first polymer from the degassing vessel to thereby form a new seedbed in the storage silo, and e1) Conducting the second polymerisation reaction in the reactor to produce a second polymer; or c2) Optionally, maintaining in the seedbed storage silo a seed-bed compatible with a second polymerisation reaction, d2) Passing to the reactor at least a portion of the first polymer from the degassing vessel to thereby form a new seedbed in the reactor, and e2) Conducting a polymerisation reaction in the reactor to produce polymer.
