High-durability antifogging coating film and coating composition

The problem addressed by the present invention is to provide an antifogging coating film having excellent antifogging property, antifogging persistence, persistence of appearance, and elution resistance. The coating film according to the present invention contains a metal oxide (A) and a hydrophilic compound (B); the height of the eluate by a coating film surface elution test is 1.0 μm or less; this test is carried out by placing 10 μL of deionized water on the coating film, allowing the film to stand for 24 hours in a 23° C., 50% RH environment, measuring the eluate height of 20 locations selected randomly within a 10 cm2 range on the coating film surface, and determining the maximum height; and the water contact angle measured after subjecting the coating film to a moisture resistance test by exposure for 24 hours in an 85° C., 85% RH environment followed by standing for one hour in a 23° C., 50% RH environment, is less than 40°. Preferably, the elution level per coating film unit volume by a coating film total elution test is 40 mg/cm3 or less, and this test is carried out by immersing the coating film in 23° C. deionized water for 24 hours, then measuring the weight of the coating film eluate recovered from the deionized water.

The invention is directed to curable polyurethane coating compositions which may be used to form fouling release coatings, e.g., for use in protecting boat hulls. The present disclosure provides a polymeric material including a polymerized reaction product of a polymerizable composition including components and has a solids content of 90% or greater. The components include a uretdione-containing material including a reaction product of a diisocyanate reacted with itself; a first hydroxyl-containing compound; an optional second hydroxyl-containing compound having a single OH group, wherein; and an epoxy component. The first hydroxyl-containing compound has more than one OH group and the optional second hydroxyl-containing compound is a primary alcohol or a secondary alcohol. The present disclosure also provides a two-part composition, in which the polymeric material is included in the first part and the second part includes at least one amine. Further, a method of adhering two substrates is provided, including obtaining a two-part composition; combining at least a portion of the first part with at least a portion of the second part to form a mixture; disposing at least a portion of the mixture on a first substrate; and contacting a second substrate with the mixture disposed on the first substrate. The disclosure also provides a polymeric material and a method of making a two-part composition. Advantageously, two-part compositions according to the present disclosure can be used as coatings and adhesive systems with handling and performance similar to existing two-part urethane systems, but with less sensitivity to water.

The components include a uretdione-containing material including a reaction product of a diisocyanate reacted with itself; a first hydroxyl-containing compound; an optional second hydroxyl-containing compound having a single OH group, wherein; and an epoxy component. The epoxy component is present in an amount of 35% by weight or greater, based on the total weight of the polymerizable composition. The first hydroxyl-containing compound has more than one OH group and the optional second hydroxyl-containing compound is a primary alcohol or a secondary alcohol. The present disclosure also provides a two-part composition, in which the polymeric material is included in the first part and the second includes at least one amine. Further, a method of adhering two substrates is provided, including obtaining a two-part composition; combining at least a portion of the first part with at least a portion of the second part to form a mixture; disposing at least a portion of the mixture on a first substrate; and contacting a second substrate with the mixture disposed on the first substrate. The disclosure also provides a polymeric material and a method of making a two-part composition. Advantageously, two-part compositions can be used as coatings and adhesive systems with handling and performance similar to existing two-part urethane systems, but with less sensitivity to water, or with performance similar to toughened epoxy systems.

The present application provides a sublimation ink which is capable of being transferred to natural fiber fabrics, such as cotton and linen, in addition to synthetic fabrics, such as polyester, nylon, etc., and shows significantly improved color fastness. The sublimation ink may include a resin containing at least one active hydrogen, a crosslinking agent having at least two isocyanate (—NCO) groups, and one or more colorants. The sublimation ink may also include one or more carriers, binders, thickeners, and/or solvents. An image can be printed on a transfer medium (e.g. paper) at room temperature with the sublimation ink using conventional offset printer so that the sublimation ink remains inactive. The image can be subsequently transferred onto any desired fabrics under heat and pressure, in which the sublimation ink is activated and bonds the colorant to the fabrics with excellent color effect.
