By selectively adjusting the ranges of the substrate's components, various products can be made to replace current tree-based and plastic-based products. The substrate can be configured to be tear proof, water proof, fade resistant and fire retardant while utilizing less energy and producing less waste during its manufacture. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the stone used in the substrate includes limestone.

A stone based copolymer substrate includes calcium carbonate (CaCO3) from approximately fifty to eighty-five percent (50-85%) by weight and varying in size generally from 1.0 to 3.0 microns, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) from approximately two to twenty-five percent (2-25%) by weight and a biopolymer from approximately two to twenty-five percent (2-25%) by weight. The substrate may include a biodegradation additive from approximately three fourths of a percent to two percent (0.75-2%) by weight. By selectively adjusting the ranges of the substrate's components, various products can be made to replace current tree-based and plastic-based products. The substrate can be configured to be tear proof, water proof, fade resistant and fire retardant while utilizing less energy and producing less waste during its manufacture. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the stone used in the substrate includes limestone.

A fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin composition comprising (a) 100 parts by weight of polyolefin; (b) 10 to 600 parts by weight of rubbery polymer having a glass transition temperature no higher than 0° C.; (c) 10 to 500 parts by weight of spherical silica having an average particle size of no more than 1 μm and a water content of no more than 1000 ppm; (d) 1 to 400 parts by weight of ultrafine fibers of a thermoplastic polymer having amide groups in the main chain; and (e) 0.1 to 20 parts by weight of a silane coupling agent ,wherein component (d) is dispersed as ultrafine fibers having an average diameter of no more than 1 μm in a matrix comprising component (a), component (b) and component (c), and each component among (a), component (b), component (c) and component (d) makes a chemical bond via component (e).2. A composition comprising a low density polyethylene (LDPE) and a metallocene-catalyzed linear low density polyethylene (mLLDPE) wherein the composition when extruded as a molten resin displays a neck-in value that is about equal to or increased by less than about 10% of the neck-in value observed when using the LDPE alone. A method comprising blending a LDPE and a mLLDPE of this disclosure to form a polymer blend having a miscibility factor of 1; extruding the polymer blend onto a substrate wherein the extruded polymer blend has a neck-in that is about equal to or increased by less than about 10% of the neck-in value observed when using the LDPE alone and wherein an amount of trim waste produced is equal to or about 10% less trim waste than the amount of trim waste produced when utilizing an extrusion coating using LDPE alone. 1.
