A composition suitable for treating synthetic filaments prior to stretching comprises an aqueous emulsion containing a lubricating oil, a wax and one or more emulsifying agents. The lubricating oil may be a vegetable oil, a fish oil, a mineral oil having a viscosity varying between the kerosenes and heavy motor oils, examples being given, or a synthetic lubricant, e.g. polyalkylene glycols, esters formed from fatty acids containing 1-12 carbon atoms and alcohols containing 1-12 carbon atoms and phosphoric acid derivatives, many being exemplified, including tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphite. The wax may be oxidized or non-oxidized, suitable waxes being mentioned, polymers of ethylene oxide, terphenyls and polyalkylene hydrocarbons. A lubricant consists of mineral lubricating-oil in which rubber latex is stabilized by soft soap. It may be thickened by adding paraffin wax or tallow; other oils or greases may be added to adjust the viscosity. In an example, 1 gallon of oil, 0,25 gallon of rubber latex of 50 per cent rubber content, and 4 oz. of a potash-oleic acid soap are mixed by air blowing at 75 DEG F. for 1 hr. To each gallon of mixture there is added 0,25 lb. of paraffin wax or 0,25--4,0 lb. of tallow. When the latex contains ammonia or other saponifying-agent the percentage of soap added is reduced.

Textile lubricants comprise the following ingredients, preferably in aqueous emulsion: (a) at least 40 wt. per cent of a synthetic ester lubricating oil, (b) at least 10 wt. per cent of a non-ionic emulsifying agent, and (c) 10-30 wt. per cent of a salt of a dialkylsulphosuccinate. Typical of many specified ingredients are (a) di-(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate, isopropyl palmitate, isocetyl stearate, trimethylolpropane tripelargonate, and pentaerythritol tetrapelargonate; (b) polyethylene glycol monolaurate, sorbitan monolaurate, glyceryl monooleate, and ethylene oxide condensates (up to 15 units) with stearyl alcohol, nonyl phenol, oleamide, and sorbitan monooleate; and (c) sodium di-(tridecyl) sulphosuccinate. Up to 25% of (a) may be replaced by a natural or synthetic wax, e.g. a microcrystalline wax or a polyethylene wax. A coating composition for protecting metals comprises a water-insoluble volatile organic degreasing agent, a clear soluble oil and water in such proportions that the composition is a stable uniphase solution which does not separate on long standing and which contains a minimum of 10 per cent by weight of water and of 15 per cent by weight of degreasing agents. The products obtained by passing a mixture of mineral oil vapour and air through a catalytic material under regulated temperature conditions as described in Specification 138,113, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are worked up to produce lubricants and soaps. As starting materials for the partial combustion process, a crude petroleum, gas oil, or shale oil is employed, or the products resulting from cracking a heavy oil or distillate at atmospheric pressure. The condensed reaction products contain aldehyde fatty acids, aldehydes, alcohols, light hydrocarbons, and waxes. Cresylic acid of boiling point 201--203 DEG C., which is substantially a mixture of m- and p-cresols, is esterified with phosphoric acid. The resulting tricresyl phosphates may be purified by treatment with alkali solution and/or a permanganate. Lubricants for textiles comprise a basis of paraffin wax together with a water-soluble emulsifier and a hydrophile substantially water-insoluble aliphatic alcohol to act as a stabilizing agent. In a process for moulding articles from thermosetting resins such as polyurethane which, during curing would, if not prevented from so doing, initially adhere to the mould, but become non-adherent as the cure proceeds, the surface of the mould is coated with a film of thermoplastic material, e.g. wax, the uncured resin being introduced into the mould at a temperature below the melting point of the thermoplastic material and the mould maintained below said temperature, which is within the curing range of the resin introduced, until the cure has reached the point at which the resin is non-adherent to the mould. The temperature is then raised to accelerate the cure and soften or melt the thermoplastic film so that when the cure is complete the moulded article may be easily removed from the mould.

The present invention provides a process for preparing a lubricant base stock from the thermal decomposition of plastic polyolefin polymer, the method comprising the steps of: i) introducing plastic polyolefin polymer into a thermal reaction zone of a vacuum pyrolysis reactor; ii) heating the plastic polyolefin polymer at sub-atmospheric pressure, wherein the temperature in the thermal reaction zone of the reactor is from 500° C. to 750° C., to induce thermal decomposition of the plastic polyolefin polymer and to form a thermal decomposition product effluent which comprises a major portion by weight of a C 20 to C 60 wax fraction; iii) condensing a vapour component of the thermal decomposition product effluent from the vacuum pyrolysis reactor in a multistage condensation comprising a plurality of condensation stages connected in series; and iv) subjecting the C 20 to C 60 wax fraction of the thermal decomposition product to catalytic hydroisomerization in a hydroisomerization reactor in the presence of hydrogen to form the lubricant base stock.

Fuel and lubricating oil additives, particularly dispersants, wax crystal modifiers and flow improvers, are produced. Where functionalization and derivatization of these copolymers is required for such additives it is facilitated by the olefinic structures available in the copolymer chains.

In a process for converting mixed polyethylene waste to make waxes and grease base stocks through catalytic depolymerization, the mixed polyethylene waste is preheated to form a molten mixed polyethylene waste. Then, depolymerization reaction of the molten mixed polyethylene waste is started. The depolymerization reaction uses a catalyst in a high pressure reactor at a desired temperature using heaters in the high pressure reactor. The catalyst is disposed on a stirring blade. Progression of depolymerization reaction of the molten mixed polyethylene waste is allowed to continue until a pressure in the high pressure reactor reaches a desired value. The heaters are turned off and depolymerization reaction of the molten mixed polyethylene waste is stopped upon the pressure in the reactor reaching desired value. The mixed polyethylene waste is converted to wax or grease base stock.

The disclosure relates to temporary corrosion resistant coatings and films upon metal substrates, e.g., metal tools and dies. The temporary coatings and films will not adversely chemically alter the surface of the underlying substrate. The coatings/films comprise a mixture of at least one of an acrylic, water, an oil, silica, at least one silicate, surfactants and optionally one or more buffering materials and waxes.

A protective coating is formed on a metallic material surface by applying a treating agent comprising water, an alkali silicate, and, optionally, a lubricating component to the surface and drying the treating agent. The coating film thereby formed has excellent anti-galling and rust preventive properties. If a lubricating component is present, the coating film also has excellent self-lubricating properties.
