This invention relates to a composition comprising: (A) a major amount of a fluorine-containing hydrocarbon containing one or two carbon atoms; and (B) a minor amount of a phosphorus-containing composition comprising at least one compound characterized by formula (1) or (2) wherein R1 and R2 are each independently hydrocarbyl groups or hydrocarbyloxyalkylene groups and R1 and R2 taken together have a total of 2 to about 24 carbon atoms excluding any oxyalkylene carbon atom; a is 0 or 1; b is 1 or 2; c is 1, 2 or 3; d is 0, 1 or 2, provided that c+d=3; if b is 1, Z is selected from the group consisting of -R5, -XR5, -N(H)R5, -N(R5)2, -C(X)R5, -CN, -S(O)R5, -S(O)2R5, -S(O)2N(R3)(R4) and (.alpha.); if b is 2, Z is -N(R5)-, X is oxygen or sulfur; Y is a hydrocarbylene group having 1 to about 20 carbon atoms; R5 is a hydrocarbyl group having 1 to about 18 carbon atoms; R3 and R4 are each independently hydrogen; or a hydrocarbyl group having 1 to about 24 carbon atoms; or R3 and R4 taken together form a heterocyclic ring. The present invention provides compositions which are useful as refrigeration liquids in refrigerators and air-conditioners including auto, home and industrial air-conditioners. The invention provides phosphorus-containing compositions which are compatible with fluorine-containing hydrocarbons used in refrigerators and air-conditioners. The phosphorus-containing compositions act as a lubricant additive for air-conditioners.
