A novel hydraulic fluid composition for application to drilling equipment is described herein. These hydraulic fluid compositions permit effective monitoring or controlling well-head pressure of a well during drilling on land or offshore. The hydraulic fluid compositions prevent uncontrolled flow of gas, oil, or another well fluid out of an underground formation during a drilling or extraction process when applied to the drilling equipment. Accordingly, provided is a hydraulic fluid concentrate which contains a water-soluble phosphate ester and a sulfide compound containing at least one S—S linkage, at least 10 carbon atoms and at least one terminal carboxylate group, wherein the S—S linkage bridges two alkyl groups. Additional components can be added to the concentrate and include one or more alkaline compound, one or more dicarboxylic acid or salt thereof, a water-soluble corrosion inhibitor, a water-soluble biocide, a pour point depressant, and water, ethylene glycol, or a combination thereof. The concentrate is then further diluted by the customer for use as described herein. Particularly, these compositions are effective in reducing seawater corrosion of a metal in contact with the hydraulic fluid composition, reducing bioaccumulation in oil drilling equipment contacted with the hydraulic fluid composition, and have low toxicity to sea life.

A light-duty, multi-purpose lubricant particularly formulated for use on the diverse bearing surfaces mechanisms which operate in a dirty or dusty environment, such as bicycle chains. The lubricant comprises an insoluble bond weakening agent, preferably metallic soaps such as Calcium Stearate, in suspension in a volatile solvent-based solution of wax and oil. After application and evaporation of the solvent the composite dry lubricant exhibits good penetration and load bearing properties without the dirt-retaining character of oils or greases. The undissolved particles of the bond weakening agent combine with dirt particles to break-down portions of the lubricant into a dry flaky particles which are sloughed off the mechanism. Soluble waxes having different solid phase crystalline structures may be blended with the paraffin to reduce the rate of sloughing. The amount of solvent may be adjusted or eliminated depending on the application. A surfactant can be added provide for coating wet mechanisms.

A grease composition containing a polymer with (a) monomers (i) at least one unsaturated α,β-carboxylic acid ester containing an alkyl group with about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms; and (ii) at least one unsaturated α,β-carboxylic acid ester containing an alkyl group with about 4 to about 11 carbon atoms different from monomer (i); and (iii) at least one unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride or derivatives thereof; and (iv) optionally at least one unsaturated α,β-carboxylic acid ester containing an alkyl group with about 1 to about 3 carbon atoms; and optionally (v) at least one non-monomeric amine with primary functionality, secondary functionality or mixtures thereof; and optionally (b) other performance additives; and (c) at least one thickening agent, and (d) an oil of lubricating viscosity. The invention further relates to the process to make the composition and its use in greases.

The present invention relates to the lubrication and/or water repellency of gears used, in particular, during the practice of winter sports. A surface tension of the lubricant agent lower than that of the gear implies an increase of water repellency and thus, an improvement of the capability of removing the water film forming between the snow and the bottom lining of the gear during the reciprocal movement. In fact, this water film increases the adherence of the bottom lining to the snow and reduces the sliding thereof. Such lubricating action is achieved by the use of the compound having the described formula, pure or in a mixture.

A heat and mass transfer component comprises a lubricant-impregnated surface including hydrophobic surface features, which comprise nanostructured surface protrusions having a hydrophobic species attached thereto. The hydrophobic surface features are impregnated with a fluorinated lubricant having a viscosity in a range from about 400 mPa·s to about 6000 mPa·s. A method of fabricating a lubricant-impregnated surface on a heat and mass transfer component comprises: cleaning a thermally conductive substrate to form a cleaned substrate; exposing the cleaned substrate to a hot water or hot alkaline solution to form a thermally conductive substrate having nanostructured surface protrusions; depositing a hydrophobic species on the nanostructured surface protrusions to form hydrophobic surface features; and coating the hydrophobic surface features with a fluorinated lubricant having a viscosity in a range from 400 mPa·s to 6000 mPa·s. The heat and mass transfer component may exhibit a substantial increase in heat transfer coefficient during hydrocarbon condensation.
