The invention relates to cleaning compositions having anti-microbial benefits, in particular cleaning compositions having enhanced anti-microbial benefit because of the synergistic interaction between a surfactant and an iodine containing inorganic salt. Detergent compositions having a neutral to alkaline pH and that are based on harmless and environmentally safe anti-microbials providing good cleaning and improved anti-microbial benefits remain to be desired. It is an object of the present invention to provide a detergent composition with good cleaning and enhanced anti-microbial benefit at neutral to alkaline pH based on harmless and environmentally safe antimicrobials. It has been found that at a neutral to alkaline pH, a synergistic anti-microbial activity may be obtained between a surfactant selected from sulphonated or carboxylated anionic, cationic or non-ionic surfactants and an iodine containing inorganic salt selected from iodate or iodide salts.

A light-duty liquid or gel dishwashing detergent composition containing an alkyl ethoxy carboxylate surfactant mixture and calcium or magnesium ions. The compositions containing magnesium ions require a magnesium chelating agent, and a buffering agent to maintain the pH of the composition from about 8 to 10. Compositions containing calcium ions may require a calcium chelating agent, particularly at pH levels above 9, to prevent the formation of CaCO3 precipitates during storage. The compositions exhibit good grease removal while manifesting mildness to the skin. The compositions also have good storage stability. A preferred type of dishwashing detergent composition is in the liquid form. High pH and calcium or magnesium ions of the compositions increase grease removal properties while maintaining mildness.

The present invention relates to a surfactant composition containing a cationic surfactant (hereinafter referred to as a compound (A)), one or more compounds (hereinafter referred to as a compound (B)) selected from anionic aromatic compounds and bromide compounds and a cationic polymer (C), wherein compound (A) and (B) are selected when meeting the following condition: a combination of the compounds (A) and (B) ensures that that the viscosity (20° C.) of a solution prepared by mixing an aqueous solution SA of the compound (A) and an aqueous solution SB of the compound (B) in the same ratio is at least two times the viscosity of any one of the aqueous solutions (20° C.) before being mixed.

An aqueous aerosol bathroom cleaner includes a surfactant, a water-soluble or dispersible organic solvent, a chelating agent and a propellant that comprises n-bistane. Comparative data demonstrate that the presence of n-butane in the composition enhances the rate of bathroom soap scum removal relative to aerosol compositions that do not contain n-butane in the propellant. The amount of surfactant present is sufficient so that the composition develops a stable foam upon being dispensed onto a soiled bathroom hard surface. A melt-cast detergent composition which retains rigidity at least up to 40 °C comprising: (a) 2-50 (Xa) % by wt. saturated fatty acid soap comprising one or more salts of C6-C24 fatty acids; (b) 2-40 % by wt. of detergent active species; (c) 0.5-20 % by wt. of a salting-in electrolyte; and (d) 30-80 % by wt. water; wherein the fatty acid soap present forms an Xa % solution in water with a liquid phase having a viscosity less than 50 Pa.s at a shear rate of 1 sec-1 in the temperature range 50-100 °C, shows phase separation and presence of a solid phase during cooling up to 20 °C and the solid phase is present at least up to 40 °C during heating.

Aqueous hard surface cleaner compositions useful for removing permanent ink are disclosed. The compositions comprise 75 to 99 wt.% of water; 0.1 to 5 wt.% of a monoterpene; 0.1 to 5 wt.% of a C10-C17 fatty acid derivative; and 0.1 to 5 wt.% of one or more surfactants. The fatty acid derivative is selected from ?,?-dialkyl amides, N,N- dialkyl esteramines, and ?,?-dialkyl amidoamines. Preferably, a base such as sodium carbonate or monoethanolamine is also included. The invention includes concentrates comprising the non-aqueous components recited above, as well as other applications for the cleaners and concentrates such as graffiti removers and permanent ink erasers. The combination of a monoterpene and certain fatty acid derivatives, especially fatty ?,?-dialkyl amides, unexpectedly enables even dilute aqueous compositions to rapidly decolorize black permanent marker from hard, non-porous surfaces.

Comparative data demonstrate that the presence of n-butane in the composition enhances the rate of bathroom soap scum removal relative to aerosol compositions that do not contain n-butane in the propellant. The amount of surfactant present is sufficient so that the composition, develops a stable foam upon being dispensed onto a soiled bathroom hard surface. The foam collapses after 10 to 60 seconds to deliver the cleaning components onto the surface.

The method of claim 3 , wherein the aqueous cleaning solution has a pH of between about 10 and about 14.5.
