Multiple superposed coatings. - Enamelled patent leather is prepared by coating leather with a layer coloured, for example, by metal powder and subsequently adding a further translucent layer which may be of a different colour. In an example, the leather is first given a coat of linseed oil and pyroxylin which is then dried and a second coat of linseed oil and pyroxylin containing a metallic powder, e.g. aluminium or bronze powder, is then added. The second coat becomes incorporated with the first owing to partial solution of the dried coat. After drying, a fluid coat of linseed oil varnish containing naphtha, as used for black patent leather, is added, having, if desired, colouring matter sufficient to modify the colour of the second coat. The leather is then baked at about 140‹ C. and exposed to sunlight or other actinic light.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the synthetic polymers comprise polyvinyl compounds claim 1 , vinyl acetate compounds claim 1 , and polyethylene compounds claim 1 , and the macromolecular natural products comprise starches and carboxymethyl cellulose.3. Coated Fibrous Substrates The present invention provides a method of improving the adhesion of coatings to fibrous base materials. The method comprises treating a fibrous base material with one or more salt(s) of receptor species to provide a pre-coated fibrous base material comprising specific inorganic receptor sites within the fibrous base material. The leather finishing agent can be used in the finishing section after leather tanning. After finishing, the mechanical properties of the leather were significantly enhanced, and its UV resistance was also significantly improved. 1. A method of preparing a leather finishing agent comprising:heating a raw material comprising a polyphenol, an auxiliary agent comprising hexamethylene tetramine, and a solvent comprising a protonic acid to form a reaction mixture,hydrolyzing the reaction mixture, anddispersing the hydrolyzed reaction mixture with water to form the leather finishing agent.2. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:mixing 5-15 parts by weight of the protonic acid and 1 part by weight of the polyphenol evenly to prepare a polyphenolic acid solution;mixing 1-5 parts by weight of the hexamethylene tetramine with the polyphenolic acid solution evenly to prepare a mixed solution;heating the mixed solution at 70-120° C. for 0.5-3 hours to obtain a reaction solution;cooling the reaction solution to 25-60° C., then adding 10-20 parts by weight of water and hydrolyzing the cooled reaction solution for 0.5-1 hour to form the leather finishing agent.3. The present invention provides aqueous composition comprising a multi-stage acrylic emulsion polymer having a first stage polymer of from 0.5 to 4 wt. %, based on the total weight of monomers used to make the first stage polymer, of a copolymerized carboxylic acid or salt group containing monomer, and having 10 to 30 wt. %, on total solids of the multi-stage acrylic emulsion polymer, of a second stage polymer of from 3 to 15 wt. % of a copolymerized hydroxyl group containing monomer, the first stage polymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) of less than −10° C. and the second stage polymer having a Tg (DMA) of greater than 80° C.; and (ii) from 25 to 75 wt. %, based on the total solids weight of the multi-stage acrylic polymer, of a polyurethane. 1. Nano-composite polymeric coating for the conservation of leathers and method for synthesizing the same

The synthesis of a nano-composite, composed of hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles dispersed in polyethylene glycol (PEG) applicable for long-term preservation of historical leather and parchment samples. The nano-composite is synthesized through a simple method by a two phase mixing process at ambient temperature. The mechanical behavior analysis of goat historical leather treated with the prepared nano-composite revealed more softness, better mechanical properties and less structural changes in comparison with the untreated sample. Furthermore, thermal analysis results have confirmed that nano-composite treatment causes a softer amorphous structure with higher water content, more structural homogeneity, and the temperature that maximum weight losing occurred is higher than those for the untreated sample.

The coating agent contains micro-capsules with particle size 2-50 microns as matting agent.
