A coupling e.g. to attach an implement to a work machine comprises a first part (2, fig. 1) adapted to fit the work machine, a second part (3, fig. 1) adapted to fit the implement and which can rotate relative to one another about a shaft 14. Fluid operated locking means 13 are provided so that the two parts may rotate relative to each other or may be locked to prevent rotation. The locking may be achieved by deforming the locking means so that frictional resistance is applied to the shaft. Preferably, a bearing sleeve 13 is deformed by hydraulic pressure in a chamber 16 against the shaft to frictionally hold the moving parts in position. The arrangement preferably forms part of a quick coupler for an excavator.

An attachment device for releasably securing implements to eg. an excavator or digger comprises a locking device (10 Fig.1) comprising a first recess 150 closeable by a first safety latch 104 eg. a substantially L-shaped latch, and a second recess 152 closeable by a second safety latch 134 eg. a pair of safety hooks or an elongate bar. In use, when the first latch is open the second latch is closed and when the second latch is open the first latch is closed. The locking device may be hydraulically or pneumatically operated. Such an attachment device has the advantage that only one mounting pin of an implement can be released at any one time, therefore said implement will be safely retained by at least one of the two mounting points when in use.

A coupler for coupling an implement having first and second spaced apart parallel pins, to the arm of a vehicle. The coupler has a body for attaching to the vehicle arm, a first fixed jaw, a movable second jaw facing away from the first jaw, and an actuator to selectively move the second jaw towards and away from the first jaw. The first jaw includes a lip forward of the seat for the first pin. A first locking member is pivotable between a locking position, in which a portion of the locking member protrudes into the opening of the first jaw, and an unlocked position. A second locking member is pivotable between a locking position in which a portion of the second locking member constricts the opening of the second jaw, and an unlocked position.
