A method of fabricating a polymer coated mat is disclosed to form a moisture barrier. The method includes moving a substrate mat along a processing path and heating the substrate mat to a predetermined temperature. A curtain of molten polymer is extruded through a slot die onto a surface of the heated substrate mat as the mat moves along the processing path to create a composite mat comprising a thin polymer film coating on at least one side of the substrate mat. The composite mat is then cooled in a controlled manner to cure and solidify the polymer film. The resulting composite mat may be used as a construction wrap, or it may be incorporated into other products such as an underlayment. A flexible insulation comprising:a base insulating material;a covering material positioned over the base insulating material: anda plurality of perforations, wherein each of the perforations comprises an opening through both the base insulating material and the covering material.225-. (canceled) The present application is a continuation of Application No. 13,107,568, filed on May 13, 2011, which claims priority to provisional patent application entitled, “LOW-E HOUSEWRAP,” filed on May 21, 2010, and assigned U.S. Application Ser. No. 61/346,916. The contents of these applications are incorporated by reference. The present invention relates generally to building structure materials, and more specifically to an infiltration barrier used in building construction to improve energy efficiency and to protect against air infiltration and moisture build-up in buildings. In order to improve the energy efficiency of new and existing buildings, it has been common practice in building new structures, and in residing old structures, to cover the exterior wall sheathing with an infiltration barrier, for example, prior to installation of a covering material such as siding. One such infiltration barrier is a high density polyethylene fiber sheeting. While infiltration barriers cut down on drafts and thereby convective heat loss, they provide little other contribution to the energy ...

The present invention provides a panel sheathing for making wall and roof structures in which the panels (e.g., wood boards, oriented strand boards, plywood, etc.) are pre-coated at a factory, before installation at the building/construction site, using a polymeric barrier coating having specific water permeability, self-sealing properties with respect to penetrated metal fasteners (e.g., nails) in accordance with ASTM D7349 (modified using 1.5-5.0 inches water depth in hydrostatic head testing over sample of coated panel in which a steel nail is driven to within ⅛ inches of being flush with the panel and conditioning the test specimen for 24 hours at 23° C. prior to hydrostatic loading), as well as anti-blocking properties whereby the coated panels can be transported in stacked configuration without sticking or disintegration of the polymeric barrier coating. The coated panels do not require the use at the installation site of felt paper, house wrap, or additional applied barrier coating to provide excellent weather barrier properties. The present invention also provides methods for constructing the panel sheathing structure as well as for making the coated panels. 1. A panel-based sheathing system for sheathing a wall or roof structure at a building site , the sheathing system comprising:at least two adjacent coated panels comprising a material chosen from wood, plywood, oriented strand board, or a combination thereof, and having an outer surface and an inner surface connected by four transverse edges, and at least one transverse edge extending between the at least two adjacent coated panels, whereby at least the outer surface of the at least two adjacent coated panels contains a polymeric barrier coating comprising at least one polymer or copolymer chosen from a polyurea, an ABA block copolymer comprising polymethylmethacrylate/polybutyl acrylate/polymethyl-methacrylate, a blend of hot melt polyamide with the ABA block copolymer, a UV cured acrylic, and said ...

A low-emittance material having improved energy efficiency protection against air infiltration and moisture build-up in buildings is disclosed. The aforementioned low-emittance material utilizes existing framing openings or without increasing the wall profile of a building. The present invention provides a low-emittance material which may be implemented on traditional 2×4 framing having R-15 mass insulation material within existing or newly constructed framing cavities. The material of the present invention also meets requirements for serving as a water resistive barrier as defined by ICC AC38. 125-. (canceled)26. A reflective insulation , comprising:a first layer and a second layer;the first layer being a reflective layer that reflects radiant heat; andthe second layer being an insulating layer having a side adjoined to the first layer by flame lamination or heat roller lamination to bond directly or indirectly the first layer and the second layer together.27. The reflective insulation of claim 26 , further comprising a third layer being a reflective layer that reflects radiant heat claim 26 , where another side of the second layer is adjoined to the third layer by flame lamination or heat roller lamination.28. The reflective insulation of claim 26 , further comprising a third layer including a polyolefin claim 26 , where another side of the second layer is adjoined to the third layer by flame lamination or heat roller lamination.29. The reflective insulation of claim 27 , wherein the third layer includes polyethylene.30. The reflective insulation of claim 28 , further comprising a plurality of perforations through both the first layer and through the second layer claim 28 , the perforations providing the reflective insulation to have a permeance and water vapor transmission between about 5 to about 20 perm.31. The reflective insulation of claim 30 , where the perforations are formed from punchers having a diameter to prevent the perforations from resealing.32. The ...

The web frame is a bonded assembly of panels and porous blanket layers, separated by an arrangement of isolated spacers. The panels and spacers are covered with a bonding means. A coating covers inner surfaces of the panels and spacers. The porous blanket is compressed and pinned between these panels, by spacers that are arranged as isolated nodes or columns The spacers have sharpened ends that penetrate the blanket and connect with the opposing panel. The web frame assembly provides thermal and sound insulation for buildings and other solid objects. These web frames are lightweight, durable, and permeable. Capillaries and passages throughout the panels and fibres of the blanket allow passage of moisture and air, thereby assisting in the management of condensation within the web frame. 138-. (canceled)39. A web frame , being an assembly of stacked , bonded materials , the web frame comprising:an inner panel having an inner surface and an outer surface;an opposing panel disposed parallel to and apart from the inner panel to form a open space therebetween, the opposing panel having an inward surface adjacent the open space;a plurality of spacers in the open space between the inner panel and the opposing panel to maintain the open space therebetween;a first surface covering bonded to the inner surface of the inner panel; anda second surface covering bonded to the inward surface of the opposing panel.40. The web frame according to claim 39 , wherein the opposing panel is an outer panel claim 39 , the outer panel is made from a resilient claim 39 , durable material.41. The web frame according to claim 39 , wherein the opposing panel is an inner panel of an adjacent web frame claim 39 , wherein the inner panel is made from a resilient claim 39 , flexible claim 39 , durable material.42. The web frame according to claim 39 , wherein the plurality of spacers are integral with the inner panel and are covered by and bonded to the first surface covering.43. The web frame ...
