Ventilated roof system with ridge vent

Номер: US20120011790A1
Принадлежит: Marco Industries Inc

A roofing system in a building structure having a ridge vent includes strips of composite material having a base material adapted to form a hermetic seal with the top surface of a roofing section and recesses in a top surface in which an air permeable material can be positioned. A strip is applied to roof sections adjacent to each side of a ridge vent so that a ridge cap can overlay the strips in spaced relation from the underlying roof sections and be sealingly secured to the roof sections. The strip material establishes a barrier between the ridge cap and the roof sections through which air can pass, but through which the passage of rain and insects is inhibited.

Multi-part reinforcement clip to allow attachment to a raised seam roof

Номер: US20120036812A1
Автор: Joseph Tony London
Принадлежит: Individual

This is a multi part clip installed under the seam of a raised seam roof that allows secure attachment of objects to the roof. One component of the invention is a base clip constructed from thin gage sheet metal and having multiple holes with some dimpled for fasteners. Another component of the invention is a vertical clip also constructed from thin gage sheet metal and having slots on either side to allow fasteners for attachment through the vertical clip. The two components when installed under a new or a pre-existing raised seam roof allows secure permanent or temporary attachment of objects using clamping force applied over the reinforcement clip without the need for deforming or changing the visual esthetics of the roof panels. This produces more support for vertical, lateral, and downward pressure.

Shingle Coloring System

Номер: US20130095293A1

Disclosed painted roof coverings and related methods of manufacturing such painted roof coverings that use a color coating over the roof coverings instead of embedded pre-colored rock granules on the exposed surface of the roof coverings. By painting a roof covering with a color coating, any kind of top surfacing material, such as rock, plastic, mineral, man-made, or organic granules, may be used in place of the pre-colored rock granules. In some embodiments, it is desirable to size the top surfacing material to provide adequate UV protection and coverage to the weatherproofing asphalt material located below the top surfacing material. Further, the color of the shingles may be accurately matched between batches of shingles, between manufacturing facilities, and even between manufacturers. In addition, designs may be painted on the surface of the roof covering, which was previously impossible using pre-colored granules.

Номер: US20150044365A1
Автор: Svec James A.

A high speed granule delivery system and method is disclosed for dispensing granules in intermittent patterns onto a moving asphalt coated strip in the manufacture of roofing shingles. The system includes a granule hopper and a rotationally indexable pocket wheel in the bottom of the hopper. A series of pockets are formed in the circumference of the wheel and the pockets are separated by raised lands. A seal on the bottom of the hopper seals against the raised lands as the wheel is indexed. In use, the pockets of the pocket wheel drive through and are filled with granules in the bottom of the hopper. As each pocket is indexed beyond the seal, it is exposed to the moving asphalt coated strip below and its granules fall onto the strip to be embedded in the hot tacky asphalt. The speed at which the wheel is indexed is coordinated with the speed of the asphalt coated strip so that granules and strip are moving at about the same forward speed or at a preselected ratio of speeds when the granules fall onto the strip. Well defined patterns of granules are possible at high production rates. 1. Method and Apparatus for Sharp Color Definition on the Application of Granules to Roofing Substrates

Номер: US20150072073A1
Автор: Svec James A.
Принадлежит:

A high speed granule delivery system and method is disclosed for dispensing granules in intermittent patterns onto a moving asphalt coated substrate in the manufacture of roofing shingles. As each pocket is indexed beyond the seal, it is exposed to the moving asphalt coated substrate below and its granules fall onto the substrate to be embedded in the hot tacky asphalt. The speed at which the wheel is indexed is coordinated with the speed of the asphalt coated substrate so that granules and substrate are moving at about the same forward speed or at a preselected ratio of speeds when the granules fall onto the substrate. Well defined patterns of granules are possible at high production rates. A method for creating sharp linear color definition between granule patches at high line speeds also is disclosed. 1. A method of creating adjacent patches of different colored granules on an asphalt coated substrate moving in a downstream direction in the manufacturing of shingles , the method comprising the steps of:(a) defining a series of spaced apart first areas along the asphalt coated substrate designated to receive granules of a first color and defining a series of spaced apart second areas adjacent to and between the first areas designated to receive granules of a second color;(b) conveying the asphalt coated substrate along a production path in the downstream direction at a predetermined line speed;(c) applying a partial charge of granules of the first color into the first areas to create granule patches having a sharp leading edge, an indistinct ...

A method and apparatus for applying or dropping granules onto the asphalt coated surface of a moving sheet in shingle manufacturing is disclosed. The method includes sharing each drop between two or more blend rolls with a subsequent blend roll or rolls applying a partial drop directly on top of partial drops already applied by a first blend roll or rolls. High production speeds can be accommodated since each roll can be operated at slower rotation rates and with slower acceleration and deceleration requirements than would be required if the full granule drop were applied during the same time interval with a single blend roll. 1. A multi-roll granule application system comprising:a conveyor assembly adapted to move a sheet of material in a downstream direction at a predetermined rate;a first granule applicator disposed over the sheet of material and being controllable to drop a first predetermined amount of granules in a specified length of time onto the moving sheet of material below to form a partial granule patch having a granule density less than a final granule density;a second granule applicator disposed over the sheet of material and being spaced downstream from the first granule applicator, the second granule applicator being controllable to drop a second predetermined amount of granules in a specified length of time onto the moving sheet of material below to form a second granule patch, the second granule patch at least partially overlapping the first granule patch to form a granule patch having the final granule density.2. Improvements in a roof ridge cover formed to give the appearance of multiple shingles. The roof ridge cover is fabricated with bend radius to ensure that the elongated base material is not stretched beyond the yield point of the material where it can rupture or split. The edges wrap around existing roof tiles to cover any damaged tiles and provide sufficient clearance of adjacent or abutting ridge covers. The cover is stone coated to provide similar appearance to the roof surface. The stone coatings provide surface protection, wear resistance and provide a gripping surface for installers or others that may walk on the roof surface. Optional venting material may be used under the cover to allow air to vent from the attic thereby allowing the attic to breath, but the vent must also be sufficiently dense enough to prevent insects and bugs from passing through the vent material. 1.
