A latch for a window sash includes a fixed plate and a latch head slidably coupled to the fixed plate. The latch head is symmetrically spring loaded to minimize rotation when the latch head translates. When the latch head retracts toward the fixed plates, hooks from the latch head engage notches on the fixed plate to lock the latch head in a retracted position. This releases the latch head from a strike so the window sash can be opened. The latch further includes a plunger centrally received in the fixed plate and the latch head. When the plunger retracts toward the fixed plate, sloped shoulders from the plunger disengages the hooks of the latch head from the notches on the fixed plate. This releases the latch head to engage the strike so the window sash is locked.

A locking mechanism for double-sliding sashes is provided to fasten inside and outside sashes and lock the fastened sashes to a window frame by an single operation using a handle. The mechanism comprises a crescent sash fastener composed of a fastening member and a receptacle member. The receptacle member is revolvable by being pushed by a projection of the fastening member which is revolved by a handle to fasten them together. The revolving movement of the receptacle member is converted into a vertical movement of a driving rod provided in a meeting stile of the outside sash. The vertical movement of the driving rod rotates locking levers which are linked to the rod at the upper and lower ends thereof to push the window frame in a firmly secured condition.

Sliding doors for showcases are normally locked by safety locks. The installation of these doors must, however, be very precise when play of the sliding door, in rest position, is to be avoided. By the new device a safe locking of a showcase is also achieved without having to pay attention to an especially precise installation. The sliding door is held in the closed position and rest position, respectively, by permanent magnets provided in the showcase, the magnetic force of which can be neutralized by an electric coil and direct current flowing therethrough. As the installation of the permanent magnets must not be so precise, such a showcase can be assembled outside a workshop, for instance on site. Also, the safe closure of sliding doors can be achieved even with showcases where known locking means are at positions difficult to reach.

A stub flange also with apertures on remote corner of the enclosure allows the plates to be fastened at the other side of the enclosure.

Systems and methods are described for controlling a breakaway feature in a sliding door. The sliding door can be mounted in a doorway on a door hanger. The door is typically attached at one end using a hinge mechanism and maintained in planar alignment with the doorframe by a controllable mechanism such as an electromagnetic shear lock. An activation switch, such as a push-bar switch, initiates a delayed egress sequence that disengages the shear lock by controlling an energizing current in a magnet. When the shear lock is disengaged, the door can swing on the hinged mechanism. The delayed egress sequence can include one or more delays prior to disengaging the shear lock. Override signals can inhibit or force disengagement of the shear lock.

Frames having sliding panels to cover an opening of the cabinet are described. The panels are mounted to interlocking stiffeners. The interlocking stiffeners include a base portion that forms a channel to receive a leading edge of the panel. The interlocking stiffeners may be positioned on a forward leading edge and a rear leading edge of the panels. The interlocking stiffeners share forces across an adjacent panel and stiffener. A latch assembly may also be engaged to the forward edge of the panel. The latch assembly includes a channel to receive the forward edge. The latch assembly includes a protruding or projecting portion, such as a bullnose, that positions the latch assembly. During a closing operation, the protruding portion enters a channel of a side frame member. The protruding portion engages with the channel of the side frame member, which results in proper alignment for the latch assembly. The latch may include a striker and pawl assembly having a negative angle that resists opening forces.

A sliding door locking system includes a sliding door having an inner surface that slides over a doorway opening when the door is slidably mounted above the doorway opening, and an outer surface. A handle assembly includes a handle, a handle seal recess, and a hub engaging portion. A hub has a lock receiving surface and a handle engaging portion. A shaft is receivable within the hub and has first and second ends, the first end engaged with the handle, and the second end rotatable by rotating the grasping portion of the handle. A V-ring is disposed within the handle seal recess and engages the hub to prevent moisture ingress between the handle and the hub. The hub has a seal recess and an X-ring and an O-ring disposed therein to seal against the shaft to prevent moisture ingress between the hub and the shaft. Axial pressure applied to the O-ring by the hub engaging portion of the handle causes the O-ring to press against the X-ring to force at least one lobe of the X-ring against the central portion of the shaft. 1.
