Systems and methods are described for controlling a breakaway feature in a sliding door. The sliding door can be mounted in a doorway on a door hanger. The door is typically attached at one end using a hinge mechanism and maintained in planar alignment with the doorframe by a controllable mechanism such as an electromagnetic shear lock. An activation switch, such as a push-bar switch, initiates a delayed egress sequence that disengages the shear lock by controlling an energizing current in a magnet. When the shear lock is disengaged, the door can swing on the hinged mechanism. The delayed egress sequence can include one or more delays prior to disengaging the shear lock. Override signals can inhibit or force disengagement of the shear lock.

A gate hinge for a preferably wooden post which includes an L-shaped rod threaded on one leg with a metal strap rigidly connected to the threaded leg at about one and one half inches from the elbow of the rod on the threaded leg. A dampened hinge assembly has a male leaf and a female leaf. The female leaf has spaced apart first and second end barrels coaxially rotating with respect to a central barrel of the male leaf therebetween. An axial shaft is fixed to the second end barrel of the female leaf at a proximal end of the axial shaft. The axial shaft has a distal helicoidally threaded spindle. A compression gear having a helicoidally threaded bore matching the helicoidal thread of the spindle displaces towards the first end barrel when the leaves move into alignment and towards the second end barrel when the leaves move out of alignment. A variable resistance brake clutch facilitates a rotational coupling of electronic device components, and can include a rotatable shaft, a brake disposed proximate the rotatable shaft, and an actuator coupled to and configured to actuate the brake. The brake applies a braking force against a rotational motion of the shaft, and release of the brake results in low to no frictional resistance against the rotational motion. The braking force can be provided by default, and a capacitive touch sensor or other input component can allow a user to actuate the actuator manually to release the brake when desired. The release can be maintained as long as the sensor detects the touch event or other user input. A processor and solenoid can facilitate actuation by on a touch event, which sensor can be located at a back corner of a laptop upper component.

The present invention relates to a window and more particularly, to a window incorporating means for effecting pivotal movement of the window panel out of the plane in which the panel is slidable so as to facilitate cleaning of both sides of the window panel. The window includes a top rail guide member a rotatable panel and a bottom rail guide member at least one of the guide members being moveable with the window panel in a direction other than one which is slidable. The invention also includes a lifting mechanism adapted to vertically displace the rotatable panel in order to disengage the complementary engaging members connecting the panel and bottom rail guide member together and allow the rotatable panel to rotate. 2. A window as claimed in claim 1 , wherein biasing means are provided to bias the opposed moveable support moveable along the axis of the pivot pins against the window panel and means are also provided which are adapted to move the window panel against the bias of the biasing means.3. A window as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the displacement of the or each window panel during movement along the axis of the pivot pins is limited by a stop member which engages the frame.4. A window as claimed in claim 1 , wherein one or both opposed moveable supports and its associated window panel are provided with complementary engaging members.5. A window as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the means adapted to move the window panel against the bias of the biasing means include a pair of cooperating members claim 2 , their arrangement being such that rotational movement of one of the cooperating members causes translational movement of the other to move the window panel against the bias of the biasing means.6.
