Thus manual rotation of shell 3 clockwise allows successive communication of compartment 6 with channel 24 and gate 25, and successive communication of compartment 7 with the two portions of channel 23 on opposite sides of gate 25. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the wings 11 are hinged to the central spindle 8, and are held in the radial position by the engagement of yielding holding-devices on the wings with a rotary ring 4 which is mounted in the top of the door casing and is provided with antifriction rollers 5, 6. In the modification, shown in Fig. 3, the wings 11 are yieldingly held in frames 12 secured to, and rotating with, the spindle 8. In a further modification, the wings are yieldingly held on disks carried by the spindle 8. Portions of the casing 20, Fig. 12, are also hinged and held in position so that they fold back on excess of pressure; and means are provided for moving the wings, when collapsed, to the side of the door casing. The holding-means for the wings 11 and hinged portions of the casing 20 may consist of spring catches 13, 14, as shown in Fig. 5, or of a block 15, Fig. 6, pressed against the adjacent member by means of an inclined surface 16 on the block 15 and an incline 17 on a bar operated by a hand-wheel 18 ; or the wings may be held by the attraction exerted on armatures on the wings by electro-magnets mounted on the ring 4 or frames 12. The wings are held in the closed position shown in Fig. 12 by bolts 19, Fig. 20, on the outer pair of wings engaging. sockets 21 on the floor. Each bolt is formed with a helical thread 22 engaging a corresponding slot in the bolt casing 23 so that pressure on the inner pair of wings turns the arms 20 and releases the bolt.

Once such an occurrence is determined to exist, the MID will send an exit request allowing the exiting customer to continue through the gate. When the internal state changes to going to a home position, the MID will send a new entry request, and the MID will indicate through MID display that the entering customer can pass through the rotary gate. The original payment of the entering customer will have been accepted and will allow the entering customer to proceed through the gate. A revolving door installation comprises a motor driven rotary door assembly having a floor 3 and which is divided by partitions 2 into a series of compartments each of which has a pedestrian platform 18 rotatably coupled to door driving mechanism so that when the door assembly rotates through a predetermined angle a compartment platform is automatically turned through a-compensatory angle such as will facilitate exit of a pedestrian from that compartment. In a preferred embodiment, shaft 1 carrying partitions 2 is coupled at its lower end to the upper element 31 of a dog clutch, the lower element 30 of which is coupled to hub 22 of floor carrier 8 and driven by shaft 17 rotated by electric motor 21 via gearbox 20. The circular floor 3 has rollers 5 on its periphery which run on a track 6 and is supported by webs 7 on carrier 8. Pedestrian platforms 18 are supported by spigots 9 and springs 10 on arms 11 fixed to shafts 12 in bearings at the periphery of carrier 8. Each shaft 12 has a pulley 13 engaged by endless driving belts 14 which also pass around pulleys 15 on pedestal sleeve 16. A microswitch (see Fig. 4) may be provided beneath each platform 18 in circuit with the electric motor so that whenever a person steps on or is standing on the platform the motor is energised to rotate the door and platforms. Alternatively starting and stopping of the revolving assembly may be controlled by means of photoelectric cell assemblies in each compartment (see Fig. 5) or in the approach and departure paths to and from the installation. A moveable restricting mechanism prevents access by a user by a user along the return. At least one door panel in the forward path prevents a user moving beyond the door panel at any one time. The restricting mechanism may comprise a retractable barrier 102 blocking the return path or the presence of a door may simply block the return path. The door panels may be driven along an orbital track where they slide along the passage in the forward direction and pivot at the exit and slide along the preferably narrow return path which is equal to the thickness of the door.
