A downhole tool assembly includes a downhole tool and an anchor. The anchor is positionable at a downhole work site and includes a wet-connect port for engaging a battery pack. The tool operates until the battery runs low on power, when a low battery power alert is activated. The tool may be anchored at the work site while the battery is disconnected and retrieved to the surface for replacement. One or more charged batteries are then deployed and connected to the tool without having to remove the tool from the worksite or reposition the tool. The tool may be coupled to a wireline cable or a slickline cable or coiled tubing having a conductive wire for delivering low-voltage power to the tool. While the low-voltage power may not be adequate to operate the tool at full load, the power may be used to charge the tool during downtime.

The jetting nozzle has one or more bearings residing between the stator body and the surrounding rotor body to accommodate relative rotational movement. The jetting nozzle includes a proximal end configured to sealingly connect to an end of a jetting hose, and to receive a high pressure jetting fluid. Preferably, the nozzle has an outer diameter that is equivalent to or slightly larger than an outer diameter of the jetting hose. Preferably, the jetting assembly has at least three actuator wires configured to induce a controlled bending moment at its distal end, thereby providing for a steerable downhole tool. Jetting collars may be placed along the jetting hose to overcome drag force.

A mechanism is hereby disclosed that, when activated in the linear direction of its axis, will expand and contract radially. The novel nature of the device is that of compliant methods and materials used in its design. Compliant members, referred to as dyads, translate the motion and imply resistance in a single structure. Thus eliminating the need for separate members, hinges, pins, springs and the associated assembly. When these compliant dyads are combined in the novel configurations hereby disclosed, a device is created that expands (or contracts) in multiple directions from its primary axis of actuation. Furthermore, one or more actuation dyad sets could be arranged at various angles relative to the global vertical axis. The radial expansion/contraction can be 2D or 3D by adding more primary activation dyad sets. Such a device can be applied to many applications and industries. One such application is for gripping the inside of a tube or object for moving manually or in automation. The compliant nature of this device can be optimized to auto-adapt to the objects size and shape allowing for greater part variation and reduce manufacturing line change-over times. Other applications would include snap fit connections, spherical articulating joints, spinning cutting tools, speed limiting using friction and centrifugal force, braking rotational forces or transmitting it, automatic centering, expanding elastic bands in an assembly process, and stretching an opening for fitment. The design of this device is material friendly and can be made of plastic, composite and metals. It may be of a single monoform construction (created by molding, machining, or additive manufacturing) or made of multiple parts including pivots and different materials to achieve the desired articulation.

Methods and apparatus for installing electrically heated composite umbilicals within subsea flowlines containing produced hydrocarbons as immersion heaters to prevent waxes and hydrates from forming within the subsea flowlines that could block the flowlines. Such retrofitted electrically heated composite umbilicals provide an alternative for previously installed, but failed, permanent heating systems. Other electrically heated umbilicals used as immersion heaters are described. Such immersion heater systems may be removed from the well, repaired, and retrofitted into flowlines without removing the flowlines. Different methods of deploying the electrically heated umbilicals are also provided.

Fluid chamber has a chamber wall and comprises: a first piston and a second piston dividing the fluid chamber into a first chamber section, a second chamber section and a third chamber section, wherein the first piston is connected to the first end of the first piston rod, and the second piston is connected to the first end of the rod of the second piston; a first support configured to support the first piston rod; second support configured to support second piston rod; and a first spring located between the first piston and the first support, and another first spring located between the second piston and the second support. The method consists in following stages: measurement of drive unit rate, measurement of tractor speed, determination of drive unit slipping on base of drive unit rate and tractor speed, comparison of drive unit slipping with acceptable value of slipping for determination of excessive drive unit slipping, and increasing normal force on the drive unit at excessive slipping of the drive unit. The facility contains a measuring unit designed to determine speed of the tractor in well, and a drive module including the drive unit contacting with a wall of the well and traveling relative to it. The drive module evaluates speed of the drive unit in well and applies normal force to the latter to bring the drive unit in touch with the wall in well and to displace it relative to the wall of well; also the drive module changes normal force at the drive unit on base of tractor speed and drive unit rate. The system contains at least two drive modules generating and applying normal force to at least one element connected with the tractor and displacing the tractor in well; the system also contains at least one measuring unit repeatedly measuring at least one of the following values: tractor speed in well and diametre of the well, further, it contains a main controller in connection with at least two modules of drive and at least one measuring unit; also at least one module of drive changes value of normal force required for displacement of the tractor in well on base of at least partially signals received from the main controller. It is located between intermediate casing string and production tubular metal structure. There are the first fluid pumping unit and the second liquid pumping unit. Each of these units comprises a tubular part containing a wall having a second inner diameter, an outer surface and a passage. Said tubular part can be installed as part of tubular metal structure. There is check valve. It is connected to external surface and has inlet hole for connection with annular space and outlet hole. In addition, the device comprises a sliding coupling for each of the first and second liquid pumping units. Sliding coupling is located opposite each of the first and second liquid pumping units. It is made with possibility of sliding along inner surface of tubular part between open position and closed position to open or close said passage to create or terminate communication with possibility of transferring fluid medium with first and second liquid pumping units. Multiple electrical conductors and data transmission conductors may be embedded in the load carrying layers for carrying current or transmitting data between the bottom hole assembly and the surface. The bottom hole assembly includes a bit, a gamma ray and inclinometer instrument package, a steerable assembly, an electronics section, a transmission, and a power section for rotating the bit. It may or may not include a propulsion system. The drilling system may be a gravity based drilling system that does include a propulsion system. Various motive means may be provided, such as gravity, to apply weight on the bit.

A long reach rotary drilling assembly comprises an elongated conduit extending through a bore in an underground formation, a drill bit for being rotated to drill the bore, a 3-D steering tool on the conduit for steering the drill bit, and a tractor on the conduit for applying force to the drill bit. The steering tool includes a telemetry section, a rotary section, and a flex section assembled as an integrated system in series along the length of the tool. The flex section comprises a flexible drive shaft to which a bending force is applied when making inclination angle adjustments. The rotary section includes a deflection housing which rotates for making azimuth angle adjustments. The telemetry section receives inclination and azimuth angle steering commands together with actual inclination and azimuth angle feedback signals for controlling operation of the flex section and rotary section to steer the drilling assembly along a desired course. The tractor includes a gripper which can assume a first position that engages an inner surface of the bore and limits relative movement of the gripper relative to the inner surface. The gripper can also assume a second position that permits substantially free relative movement between the gripper and the inner surface of the bore. A propulsion assembly moves the tractor with respect to the gripper while the gripper portion is in the first position. The tractor applies force to the drill bit for drilling the bore along a desired course the direction of which is controlled by the 3-D steering tool.

The port is moved to the open position to allow a well fluid of the subterranean well to flow into the fluid chamber. The port is moved to the closed position to prevent the well fluid from flowing between the interior of the fluid chamber and the exterior of the fluid chamber. A heating laser beam is generated with a laser and directed towards the fluid chamber to increase the temperature of the well fluid within the fluid chamber. The port is moved to the open position to allow the high heat well fluid to flow out of the fluid chamber to accelerate the tractor assembly within the wellbore.

When engaged, space is provided on each side of the borehole retention assembly such that annular flow is permitted therearound.

Methods and apparatus for installing electrically heated composite umbilicals within subsea flowlines containing produced hydrocarbons as immersion heaters to prevent waxes and hydrates from forming within the subsea flowlines that could block the flowlines. The electrically heated composite umbilicals may be installed, or retrofitted, into existing subsea flowlines. Such retrofitted electrically heated composite umbilicals provide an alternative for previously installed, but failed, permanent heating systems. A hydraulic pump installed on the distant end of an electrically heated composite umbilical also provides artificial lift for the produced hydrocarbons. Other electrically heated umbilicals used as immersion heaters are described. Such immersion heater systems may be removed from the well, repaired, and retrofitted into flowlines without removing the flowlines. Near neutrally buoyant electrically heated umbilicals are described which may be installed great distances into flowlines. Different methods of deploying the electrically heated umbilicals are also provided.

A flowline is described for producing hydrocarbons from a subsea well that is comprised of a substantially neutrally buoyant tubular composite umbilical. The flowline may possess electrical heating apparatus within the tubular walls of the tubular composite umbilical to prevent waxes and hydrates from forming within the flowline and blocking the flowline. The electrical heating apparatus is comprised of at least one electrical conductor disposed within the tubular walls of the composite umbilical that conducts electrical current that is used to heat the tubular composite umbilical. The tubular composite umbilical that contains any produced hydrocarbons is substantially neutrally buoyant in the sea water adjacent to the subsea well. Positively neutrally buoyant tubular composite umbilical flowlines are also described.
