Radial blades are curved over periphery to side opposite to rotation of turbine wheel forming interblade channels. The engine has a cylindrical casing within which a turbine is mounted off centre. Because of the eccentricity there is an annular passage part of the way round the cylinder casing and this is separated from the turbine by a dividing wall forming a sector of a circle. An external combustion chamber on the side of the cylinder casing communicates with the cylinder through a port at one end of the partly circular annular passage. The turbine casing is partially filled with water. Suitable gaseous fuels are introduced into the combustion chamber and the expansion resulting from the combustion forces the gases through the annular passage. They then can exert a pressure on the water which impinges on the turbine to produce rotation.

The invention relates to an engine in which a reciprocating piston engine is combined with a rotary piston engine. The rotary piston engine has a web 3 fixed to the housing; an incompressible working medium is contained in its working chambers 4. The working chambers of the reciprocating piston engine are located in the piston 1 of the rotary piston engine 1, 2, between the respective adjacent edges of the rotary piston 1, and are filled with a compressible working medium. Compressible and incompressible working media can in each case be separated by reciprocating pistons, which then have, so to speak, a hydraulic connecting rod. The compressible working medium, however, can also be directly acted upon by the incompressible medium, as it were by means of a hydraulic piston. When the rotary piston 1 rotates, the centrifugal forces acting force the reciprocating piston 6 and/or incompressible working medium radially outwards and effectively permit the intake process. The advantages of both types of piston engine are advantageously combined with one another and their respective disadvantages largely avoided. The engine according to the invention can be operated both as a two-stroke diesel internal combustion engine and as a compressor. <IMAGE>

Refrigerating gas operated machine is used as a heat pump or refrigerator or hot gas engine. The arrangement has closed circulation for carrying out a thermal dynamic cycle. The machine operates without servicing and has high efficiency. The unit has two combined liquid pumps which run as compressor and a motor in a common housing and have connected rotors, this eliminates sealing at the end of the pump. The opposite chambers of the rotors are connected by channels which accommodate regenerators. The two liquid rings formed are eccentric and displaced relatively to each other by quarter full circle. Compression and expansion shafts (8,10) ar set eccentric to the rotating water ring (13) with its slightly greater diameter and rotate at the same speed as the ring so the eccentric shafts penetrate slightly into the ring to give gastight sealing at the interfaces. Compression (7) and expansion discs (11) stand central to the two shafts which are adjoined by compensating spaces (6). Disc (7) and separating disc (9) limit the intake blades and the exhaust ejection blades are confined by discs (9) and (11) at right angles to their shafts. The outer blade rings thus remain immersed in the ring (13). The discs are thin and round and the compression disc has a segment intake slot reaching into the water ring as against the expansion disc which has a segment outlet slot accordingly. Compression and expansion shafts have equal numbers of gas intake and outlet orifices respectively ahead of compression disc and behind the expansion disc plus sequentially controlled inlet and outlet valves between pipe strand entry and exit in the strand line and a heat-insulated accumulator within the shaft so the gaseous media necessarily pass through these in sequence. In an operation, compression and injection stages run off a continuously repeated valve cycle.

A liquid ring turbine has a casing defining an interior chamber with a symmetry axis. A shaft, having an axis substantially parallel to the symmetry axis, is eccentrically positioned to the symmetry axis. An impeller is coupled to the shaft and is configured to rotate in a first direction. The impeller includes a plurality of vanes extending away from the shaft in a second direction at least partially opposite the first direction. The impeller rotates within a liquid ring enclosed in the casing such that a plurality of expansion chambers are defined. Each expansion chamber is defined between adjacent vanes and the liquid ring. A gas inlet port is in fluid communication with a first expansion chamber defining a first volume. A gas outlet port is in fluid communication with a second expansion chamber. The second expansion chamber defines a second volume that is greater than the first volume.

A fluid motor is disclosed which includes a rotor supported for rotation about a generally horizontal axis by a hollow shaft. The rotor defines a plurality of chambers circumferentially spaced apart relative to the axis. A relatively large area flow passage extends from the trailing wall portion of each chamber to a succeeding chamber to enable fluid flow between said chambers in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the rotor. A relatively dense working fluid partially occupies the rotor. Intake valving introduces a motive fluid into the rotor chambers disposed within a predetermined angular range relative to the axis so that the motive fluid displaces the working fluid from those chambers through associated respective flow passages and in so doing drives the rotor. Exhaust valving communicates with successive rotor chambers disposed in a second angular range relative to the axis for enabling motive fluid to exhaust from the chambers.

A method and at least two devices demonstrate improvements to energy extraction from a compressible rotation working fluid in a liquid ring heat engine, which has a rotor mounted in a case. A space in the case is occupied by a liquid that establishes a liquid ring piston for the rotor. The rotor defines at least a first and a second operating zone. In the first zone, the working fluid is expanded against the liquid and, in the second zone, the working fluid is re-compressed. Between the two zones, the working fluid is cooled. In one device, the cooling step occurs on the rotor in a third zone. In another device, the cooling occurs outside of the case.
