[Class 7 (ii).] Exhaust gases enter a conical chamber 1, lined with soundproof material 2 such as asbestos by a pipe 5 and leave by a pipe 16. The gases are caused to gyrate by an inclined sector plate 8, the curved edge of which makes contact with the inner surface of the chamber, and the plane of which is arranged at an angle to an axial plane of the silencer. After flowing round and contacting with the rear face of the sector plate, the gyrating action is accentuated. The chamber may be divided into compartments 21, 22 by partitions 20, Fig. 5, each of which has an opening 24 behind which is a deflector 26 similar to the deflector 8. The deflector is preferably secured to a curved plate 27 which is itself secured to the partition 20. The deflector may be arranged to gyrate the gases in the various compartments in the same or in different directions. The partition may have a number of openings 31, Fig. 8, each with a deflector plate 26, and a conical spreader 32 may distribute the gases to the openings. The deflectors may gyrate the gases in the same or in opposite directions. The inlet pipe 5 may lead tangentially into the largest diameter of a double conical chamber 35, Fig. 11, and deliver through a V-shaped deflector 38, the wings 39, 40 of which are set angularly to the axis of the chamber.

The vortex generator for an internal combustion engine comprises: an outer pipe member having the outer circumferential surface closely fixed to the inner circumferential surface of the intake pipe or the exhaust pipe, and formed in a cylindrical shape; an inner pipe member disposed inside the outer pipe member, formed in a cylindrical shape, and having an outer vortex forming space at the outside and an inner vortex forming space at the inside to be separated from each other; a plurality of outer vortex forming wings for allowing a flow of air passing through the outer vortex forming space to form a vortex by being disposed radially between the outer pipe member and the inner pipe member and for fixing the inner pipe member to the inside of the outer pipe member by being fixed to the outer pipe member and the inner pipe member at both ends; and a plurality of inner vortex forming wings for allowing a flow of air passing through the inner vortex forming space to form a vortex in the same direction as the direction of the vortex formed by the outer vortex forming wings by being disposed radially from the center to the edge at the inner side of the inner pipe member. According to the present invention, vortices are respectively formed from each of the spaces divided in a concentric form by the outer pipe member and the inner pipe member. Therefore, the rotational speed of the vortex can be increased while minimizing the resistance to the air flow in the intake pipe or the exhaust pipe, thereby increasing the inflow or outflow of air.

A muffler has an outer tube and an inner tube sealingly received in the outer tube. The inner tube has multiple shrink throats securely arranged therein and multiple through holes peripherally defined therein. Multiple baffles are formed between the outer tube and the inner tube and each of which has multiple openings. Every time when the exhaust air passes through the shrink throat in the inner tube, the speed of the exhaust air increases. Eventually, the efficiency of discharging the exhaust function increases. Due to the shrink throats, the backpressure from the exhaust air increasing, therefore hinders the power loss due to the early opening of the exhaust valve in the power (expansion) stroke.

An inlet module is described which comprises an inlet (111) for receiving exhaust gases from the combustion engine; an outlet (105) for directing said exhaust gases into an inlet of the emissions cleaning module; and a flow distributor (106) located in a flow path of the exhaust gases between the inlet and the outlet of the inlet module. The flow distributor comprises a plurality of apertures (114) through which, in use, the exhaust gases pass. This may lead to improved uniformity of gas flow within a downstream module.

An emissions cleaning module (1) is provided comprising a flow conduit (10,15) having an upstream end fluidly connected to a source of exhaust fluid and a downstream end fluidly connected to a mixer module (75). An injector module (16) is provided having an outlet (130) orientated to inject an injection fluid into the flow conduit (10,15) upstream of the mixer module (75). A low pressure cavity (120) located downstream of the injector module outlet (130) is further provided. The low pressure cavity (120) is fluidly connected to the flow conduit (10,15) or the mixer (75) module by an open mouth (114), the open mouth (114) being orientated such that, in use, a flow of exhaust fluid along the flow conduit (10,15) flows over the open mouth (11) thereby creating a pressure reduction within the low pressure cavity (120). An injection method is also described.

본 발명은 내연기관의 엔진 발열 방지를 위한 흡·배기장치에 관한 것으로, 더욱 상세하게는 자동차와 같은 내연기관의 엔진과 흡기부와 배기부에 공기의 흐름을 향상시켜 흡·배기되는 공기를 회전하는 공기로 만들어 엔진에서 공기의 압축이 원활해 압축공기로 인한 발열을 발지하며, 공기의 공급 및 배기량과 흐름을 향상시켜 흡·배기효율에 따른 출력향상을 통해 연소효율을 향상시켜 연비가 향상되도록 하고 와류의 방향성과 공기유도부 및 우동박리현상 방지부의 형상을 통해 공기의 압력을 낮추어 더 많은 공기를 풍부하게 더 멀리 공급하며 흐름을 원활하게 함으로써 연소를 향상시키는 내연기관의 엔진 발열 방지를 위한 흡·배기장치에 관한 것이다. 이러한 본 발명은 원통관의 내경에 형성되는 중공으로 공기가 유입되어 와류를 형성한 후 배출되도록 하고, 양쪽으로 대칭되는 위치에서 날개 연결부와 연결되는 것을 포함하며, 상기 날개 연결부에서 돌출되는 유입날개와 상기 날개 연결부의 선단에서 돌출되는 유출날개가 형성되는 흡·배기장치에 있어서, 상기 날개 연결부에서 굴곡 홈부와 굴곡 돌출부로 돌출되고 상기 날개 연결부에서 중심부분을 향하여 호상으로 유출날개가 돌출된 후 중심부분을 지나 더 돌출되도록 형성하며 중심부분에서 상측방향을 향하여 절곡되어 유입날개의 선단과 선단 유로부를 통하여 연결되는 것을 포함하고, 상기 선단 유로부는 유입날개와 유출날개를 호상으로 연결하며, 상기 유입날개와 연결되는 부분에서 날개 굴곡부가 한번 더 굴곡되도록 형성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 것이다.
