The injected air is 5 to 30% by weight of the intake fuel-air mixture provided via the intake manifold and creates a swirl or turbulence thereby increasing combustibility. The hole is connected via a sub-intake passage to the main air intake passage upstream of the venturi in the carburetor or between the venturi and throttle valve.

After a fuel-air charge is inducted into the cylinder(s), gas is injected at moderate pressure into the cylinder at a level below the spark plug, while the pressure in the cylinder is low. Preferred gas injection timing is from about the time the piston completes the intake stroke until the piston is about half-way through its compression stroke. Provided herein is an optimizable hydrogen generation system for producing and injecting hydrogen gas as a fuel supplement into the air intake of internal combustion and/or diesel engines. Hydrogen gas (H) and oxygen gas (O) are produced with one or more pairs of cells to adjust the amount of hydrogen gas supplied to the engine, while the oxygen gas is vented to the atmosphere. 1. A portable hydrogen supplementation system for supplying hydrogen gas , comprising a pair of cells , each cell comprising:(a) an oxygen substrate comprising an inner surface, an outer surface, and a plurality of through-holes;(b) a first diffusion layer disposed on the inner surface of the oxygen substrate and in fluid communication with the plurality of through-holes;(c) an anode disposed on the first diffusion layer;(d) a membrane comprising a first surface coated with a first catalyst and a second surface, wherein the first surface of the membrane is disposed on the anode;(e) a cathode disposed on the second surface of the membrane;(f) a second diffusion layer disposed on the cathode;(g) a hydrogen substrate comprising an inner surface, an outer surface, and an output port configured to flow gas therethrough, the inner surface being disposed on the second diffusion layer; and(h) a spacer disposed on the outer surface of the oxygen substrate, wherein the outer surfaces of the oxygen substrates are sealingly attached to one another, thereby forming a reservoir with the spacer, the reservoir being configured to hold water, supply the water into each cell and vent oxygen out of each cell, wherein the anode of each cell are electrically bonded to one another, and wherein the cathode of each cell are electrically bonded to one another.2. The design and construction of past oxygen injection systems having an oxygen mixer to inject oxygen into an air intake pipe required the use of oxygen in a highly pressurized state. The use of high pressure oxygen required precise pressure control in order to maintain safety. Additionally, the high pressure tank used for storing the oxygen was not space efficient due to the large volume occupied by the oxygen in the gaseous state. The present invention overcomes these problems by utilizing oxygen in the liquid state. Liquid oxygen is stored within a more space efficient storage tank. A solenoid is signaled through an electronic control unit to open under specific operating conditions allowing liquid oxygen to flow from the storage tank.
