An engine braking system includes a turbocharger having a turbine and a compressor. An exhaust manifold includes a first pipe for channeling a first portion of the engine exhaust and a second pipe for channeling a second portion of the engine exhaust. The first and second pipes are connected to an inlet of the turbine. A cross pipe, as part of an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) conduit, is open between the first and second pipes and at one end to the remaining portion of the EGR conduit. A valve can be arranged within the cross pipe and ca be operable in a first mode of operation to block flow between the first and second pipes and allow flow between the first pipe and the remaining portion of the EGR conduit and to allow flow between the first and second pipes and the inlet of the turbine. The valve is operable in a second mode of operation to allow flow between the first and second pipes, and to reduce or block flow between the second pipe and the turbine inlet.

Methods and systems are provided for adjusting the opening of a scroll valve of a binary flow turbine. Scroll valve adjustments are used at different engine operating conditions to improve engine performance and boost response. Scroll valve adjustments are coordinated with wastegate and EGR valve adjustments for improved engine control. 1. A method for an engine , comprising:adjusting a scroll valve coupled to an inlet of one scroll of a multi-scroll exhaust turbine responsive to an indication of engine deactivation.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication of engine deactivation includes a deceleration fuel shut-off.3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one scroll is a first claim 1 , outer scroll claim 1 , the multi-scroll exhaust turbine including a second claim 1 , inner scroll claim 1 , the valve not coupled to an inlet of the second scroll.4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the adjusting includes claim 1 , in response to the indication of engine deactivation claim 1 , moving the scroll valve to a more closed position.5. The method of claim 4 , wherein moving the scroll valve to the more closed position includes moving the scroll valve to the more closed position based on one or more of turbine speed or boost pressure during the engine deactivation.6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the moving based on turbine speed includes moving the scroll valve based on a difference between an estimated or measured turbine speed during the engine deactivation relative to a turbine speed deceleration profile and/or the difference between measured and desired boost pressure claim 5 , the scroll valve moved towards a fully closed position as the difference increases.7. In an engine, a controller is configured to fully close the opening of EGR valve when a cut condition is satisfied and variably control the opening when a cut release condition is satisfied. An operating zone is defined as a zone surrounded by a characteristic curve indicating a relationship between rotation speed and torque. The operating zone comprises a high operating zone containing an NTE zone, and a low operating zone that is set at a lower torque side and at a lower rotation speed side with respect to the high operating zone. The cut condition is that an operating condition specified by the rotation speed and the torque is kept within the low operating zone during a predetermined time or more. The cut release condition is that the operating condition falls within the high operating zone.

Disclosed is an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve for a vehicle which achieves regulation of the flow rate of exhaust gas introduced into an engine and the flow rate of fresh air. The EGR valve includes a fresh air flow channel, an EGR flow channel connected to the fresh air flow channel and a valve unit configured to open or close the EGR flow channel and to selectively block the fresh air flow channel according to an opened/closed state of the EGR flow channel. The valve unit includes a first valve to open or close the EGR flow channel and a second valve arranged at one side of the first valve at a different angle from an arrangement angle of the first valve. The second valve is moved along with the first valve to selectively interfere with a flow stream of fresh air in the fresh air flow channel.
