The convergence produces a gradual increase in the height of the wave as it propagates between the hulls, which, together with the reduction in the freeboard from a particular section of said hulls, gives rise to the lateral overflow of the mass of water of the crest over their rails, which is collected in tanks which are at different heights (in accordance with the reduction in the freeboard) and are connected to the corresponding turbines. The present invention is a method for real-time determination of the forces exerted by incident waves on a mobile part of a wave energy system. Models are constructed of the radiation force exerted on the mobile part and of the drag force exerted on the mobile part and a non-linear model of the wave energy system dynamics. The invention uses only measurements of the float kinematics (position, velocity and possibly acceleration) and of the force applied by a converter machine, which measurements are normally available on a wave energy system since they are used for control and supervision thereof. The present invention consists of a method for establishing in real time the forces applied by the swell incident on a movable means of a wave energy system. The method is based on the construction of a model of the radiation force which is applied to the movable means, a model of the drag force which is applied to the movable means and a non-linear model of the dynamics of the wave energy system. The invention uses only measurements of the kinematics of the float (position, speed and, where applicable, acceleration) and the force applied by the conversion machine, which measurements are normally available on a wave energy system because they are used for controlling and monitoring it. These models, these measurements and an unscented Kalman filter are used to establish the excitation force applied by the swell incident on the movable means.

A wave-energy device comprises plates / walls 2 which are placed such that they form a narrowing channel and an inclined ramp 6 to amplify the wave energy. The wave climbs up the ramp, and flap valves 8 on the ramp open to divert water into reservoirs 9, 10, 11 when the water tries to flow back down the ramp. The reservoirs are preferably located at a height higher than the oncoming wave. The water stored in the tanks is channelled through turbines to extract the gathered potential / kinetic energy. The wave-energy device preferably is used to generate electricity to supply the grid or to drive a pump to raise the water to a higher lever for storage. Figure 1 shows a view between a frontal and plan view, while figure 2 shows a side-view where the wave would approach the ramp 6 from the right-hand side.

The float is anchored by chains 14, 17 and a fender 16, and a boom 15 is provided to keep back driftwood. The shafts 6 are geared to a common shaft 10, from which power is taken by belts 13 running over automatic tightening-pulleys. The gearing from the shafts 6 may be modified, and the wheels may be submerged to a greater depth at one end than at the other.

Previously, water purification systems had an erratic delivery of pressurized fluid to a filter that result in low volume production. Embodiments of the present invention use a floating platform (44) having a ramp (10) extending from an edge thereof at a downward angle into the body of water. A primary impoundment area (24) extends from a top portion of the ramp onto the floating platform. A pair of sub-impoundment areas (28) are attached to an end of the primary impoundment area distal from the ramp. A hydraulic accumulator (36) is attached to the sub-impoundment areas. A nanofiltration system (48) isoperatively attached to hydraulic accumulator. Water is configured to flow from the body of water onto the ramp and through the system, exiting the nanofiltration system as purified water.

Προσδένεται από τα δύο σκέλη της βάσεως και ποντίζεται σε σημείο πλησίον της ακτής, με ακροδέκτες (χαλκάδες) ελευθέρας γομφώσεως, ώστε να φέρεται ελευθέρως πρός τον πνέοντα άνεμο και κάθε ματαβολή αυτού. Να δέχεται διά του στομίου της βάσεως την εγειρόμενην ροήν των κυμάτων, τα οποία οδηγεί πρός την έξοδο της κορυφής, και διά των συγκλινόντων σκελών και της κάτω κοιλίας, τα μετασχηματίζει και τα συμπιέζει πρός την κορυφήν, όπου τα δύο σκέλη βαίνουν επί μικρόν παραλλήλως. Στο σημείον εξόδου υπάρχει σταθερός άξων μετά πτερυγίων, ημιεμβαπτιζομένων στο νερό σε κάθε περιστροφή του κάτω μέρους, και ημιαποκαλυπτομένων κατά το άνω μέρος της περιστροφής στον αέρα, όπουταπετρύγια καλύπτονται κατά την φοράν του αέρα υπό ειδικού κοχλίου (καβούκι) εμποδίζοντας την δημιουργία αντιστροφών και αντιρρόπων πιέσεων. Επί του ούτω κινουμένου άξονος εφαρμόζεται ζεύγος ηλεκτροπαραγωγής για τα παρεταίρω.

A plant for the exploitation of wave energy comprises a float anchor at the bottom of the sea and subdivided into an inlet chamber (2) and a discharge chamber (4) which are provided with a plurality of barrage elements (3, 5) which let the stream pass in only one direction. One or a plurality of flow openings (7) are formed in the wall between the inlet chamber (2) and the discharge chamber (4), a hydraulic turbine (8) coupled to a generator (9) being arranged in each opening. The water penetrates in the inlet chamber (2) through the barrage elements (3) which are in the area of the up waves of the sea. The water comes out of the discharge chamber (4) through the barrage elements (5) which are in the region of the trough of the waves. The pressure difference between the barrage elements (3, 5) opened by the water which enters and comes out and the volume of water which flows due to said difference through the hydraulic turbines (8) produces a useful energy.

At the inlet to the space in which the vaned wheel (5) is located, gates (7) are provided by means of which the entry and exit of the water is controlled. Along the edges of abutment of the main and intermediate carriers (2) and (3) with the lower floating platform (1) and the main deck (39), and on the underside around the floating platform (1), around the latter and radially aligned underneath the edges of abutment of the carriers (2), (3) with the platform (1), special reinforcements are provided. Wave Powered Motor Abstract A dome-shaped atoll structure (12) having a central aperture at its apex is secured to a station-keeping structure (11, or 40, or 52) posi-tioned on the ocean bottom. The atoll structure (12) is moveable through a range of vertical positions relative to the ocean bottom. Sea waves impinging on the atoll structure (12) are refracted as they crest and break, thereby producing spiralling pulses of water that converge toward the central aperture. The central aperture provides entry into a vertical standpipe (14) for the pulses of water, which impart angular momentum to water already present in the standpipe (14). A turbine (31) attached to a shaft (26) in the standpipe (14) to rotational energy of the shaft (25), which is coupled to an electrical generator (27). The elec-tric power output of the generator (27) is measured for various vertical positions through which the atoll member (12) is moved, so that a posi-tion of optimum power output can be determined for any given combination of see state and/or tidal conditions.

The energy expended in creating artificial waves and swells is recovered by holding the wave making ramp (1) between two floating pontoons (2,3) which may be ballasted such that upper edge of the tamp is level with the water surface. This is attached by two hinged lines (5,7) running across its width enclosing an 'S' shaped section (6). The upper hinge pivots along one edge of a reservoir (8). The reservoir moves between the pontoons maintaining a vertical position hold by pins (10) pivoted at each end. Turbo - generators (15,16) are driven by the reservoir contents via two conduits (13,14) attached to a shaft (17) between the pontoons. The conduits may be controlled by valves at their output ends. The energy recovery method may also be used in sea platforms, floating factories etc.

A wave energy harnessing reservoir has an inlet side and an outlet side, the inlet side being arranged to open or close and the outlet side including a tunnel in which a turbine is located. The reservoir extends from close to the seabed to well above the mean sea level, enabling it to capture nearly the entire energy flux of an ocean wave. When a wave enters the reservoir the inlet side closes, resulting in the formation of a raised water level within the reservoir. The raised water level creates a pressure head used to drive the turbine.

The convergence produces a gradual increase in the height of the wave as it propagates between the hulls, which, together with the reduction in the freeboard from a particular section of said hulls, gives rise to the lateral overflow of the mass of water of the crest over their rails, which is collected in tanks which are at different heights (in accordance with the reduction in the freeboard) and are connected to the corresponding turbines. The angle of convergence between the hulls can be varied in order to be adapted to the sea state. The harnessing system is supplemented with a connecting closure ramp between the sterns of the hulls in order to collect the water which has previously not managed to overflow the structure.

The tube partially encloses a substantial volume of water with which the tube's constriction interacts, creating and/or amplifying oscillations therein in response to wave action. Wave-driven oscillations result in periodic upward ejections of portions of the water inside the tube that can be collected in a reservoir that is at least partially positioned above the mean water level of the body of water, or pressurized by compressed air or gas, or both. Water within such a reservoir may return to the body of water via a turbine, thereby generating electrical power (making the device a wave engine), or else the device's pumping action can be used for other purposes such as water circulation, propulsion, or cloud seeding.

Apparatus for increasing the velocity of water or liquids containing water, comprising structural means (10, 110-116) interposed in the path of water faow or moving relative to the water. The structural means includes at least one side wall (12, 110) which is longitudinally curved from a diverting point (16, 118) at the outer end thereof to a gradually flattened curve at the inner end thereof. The wall is transversely curved from a generally planar surface at the outer end thereof to a curvature approaching circular at the inner end thereof. The velocity of the water or liquid is thereby substantially increased. Such velocity enhancement can be utilized for the generation or electrical energy or for collecting and separating oil or other pollutants from water. The invention only uses measurements of the kinematics of the float (position, speed and possibly acceleration) and of the force applied by the conversion machine, measurements normally available on a wave power system, because they are used for its control and for its supervision. The determination of the excitation force exerted by the incident swell on the moving means uses these models, these measurements, and a fragrance-free Kalman filter.

A buoyant hydrodynamic pump is disclosed that can float on a surface of a body of water over which waves tend to pass. The pump incorporates an open-bottomed tube with a constriction. The tube partially encloses a substantial volume of water with which the tube's constriction interacts, creating and/or amplifying oscillations therein in response to wave action. Wave-driven oscillations result in periodic upward ejections of portions of the water inside the tube that can be collected in a reservoir that is at least partially positioned above the mean water level of the body of water, or pressurized by compressed air or gas, or both. Water within such a reservoir may return to the body of water via a turbine, thereby generating electrical power (making the device a wave engine), or else the device's pumping action can be used for other purposes such as water circulation, propulsion, or cloud seeding.

An installation for using sea movements to generate electricity comprises a sea wall 1 with a surface 14 sloping upwardly from sea level to an inclined conduit 5 which is carried by a float 4 and which discharges the collected water downwardly through conduits 16 to turbines 15 coupled to generators. As shown, the wall 1 comprises an open-ended channel made of reinforced concrete resting on the sea bed and having hollow sides 2 open to the sea through perforations 3. The surface 14 is pivoted to the conduit 5 and slidably rests on the inclined outer surface of the outer side 2. The wall 1 carries transverse bracing beams 11 which interconnect bracing ties 10 and guide rods 13. Screw-threaded shanks 12 fixed to the float 4 are guided by collars in the beams 11, whilst the conduit 5 is carried by beams 6 slidably engaging the guide rods 13, to which they may be locked, and adjustably mounted on the shanks 12 by means of motors 9 and gearing 7, 8. The conduits 16 are telescopically mounted, whilst the turbines 15 and the generators are mounted on an independent float.
