A safety device limits the pressure in an axial-piston compressor with variable piston displacement. The compressor has as wobble plate or swash plate whose tilt angle can be variably controlled by the pressure differential between the high pressure in the discharge pressure zone and the pressure in the piston-drive chamber. The safety device consists of a valve arranged in a connector channel between the discharge pressure zone and the pressure zone of the piston-drive chamber. When the discharge pressure exceeds a given pressure limit, the safety device responds by allowing an increased flow of pressure medium from the discharge pressure zone to the piston-drive chamber. The influx of pressure medium into the piston-drive chamber causes a reduction of the tilt angle of the swash plate or wobble plate.

A slant plate type compressor with a variable displacement mechanism is disclosed. The compressor includes a drive mechanism having a drive shaft rotatably supported in a compressor housing and a coupling mechanism for drivingly coupling the drive shaft to pistons such that rotary motion of the drive shaft is converted into recipro-cating motion of the pistons. The coupling mechanism includes a slant plate having an inclined surface. The slant angle changes in response to a change in pressure in the crank chamber and, thus, changes the capacity of the compressor. The drive shaft includes an inner end portion which has a diameter that is smaller than a diame-ter of the remainder of the drive shaft. A bias spring which has an outer diameter that is greater than a diameter of the remainder of the drive shaft is resiliently mounted on the inner end portion of the drive shaft between the slant plate and the cylinder block. The bias spring restores the slant plate back to its maximum slant angle when the slant angle is decreased below a predetermined angle without the bias spring interfering with the free pivoting motion of the slant plate between various inclination angles. Thereby, the impact forces which act on the internal component parts of the compressor when the com-pressor is started can be reduced, while at the same time the bias spring still can sufficiently urge the slant plate toward its maximum slant angle if the slant angle decreases below the predetermined slant angle.

The present invention relates to a variable-capacity swash plate-type compressor comprising: a casing; a rotating shaft; a swash plate; a piston; and an inclination adjustment device comprising a first channel through which a discharge chamber communicates with a crank chamber so as to adjust the inclination angle of the swash plate, and a second channel through which the crank chamber communicates with an intake chamber. The second channel has an orifice hole formed therein so as to reduce the pressure of a fluid passing through the second channel, and has an orifice adjustment device formed therein so as to adjust the effective flow sectional area of the orifice hole. The orifice hole and the orifice adjustment device may be formed such that, if the pressure difference between the pressure in the crank chamber and the pressure in the intake chamber increases, the effective flow sectional area changes from zero (0) to a first area larger than zero (0) and, if the pressure difference further increases, the effective flow sectional area becomes a second area larger than zero (0) and smaller than the first area. Accordingly, quick adjustment of the amount of discharged refrigerant and prevention of degradation of the compressor efficiency can be accomplished simultaneously. In addition, time necessary to switch to a maximum mode can be reduced.

A control valve of a variable displacement compressor is disclosed. The control valve includes a valve housing, a valve body, a valve opening spring, an electromagnetic actuator, and an urging plate. The valve housing has a valve chamber that forms a part of a supply passage. The valve body can selectively contact and separate from a valve seat in the valve chamber. The valve opening spring urges the valve body away from the valve seat. The electromagnetic actuator changes electromagnetic urging force acting on the movable iron core through control of externally supplied current. In a state where the electromagnetic actuator is not energized and the valve body is held at a position separated from the valve seat by the urging force of the valve opening spring, the urging plate deforms in such a manner as to urge the valve body toward the valve seat when the temperature of the urging plate reaches a predetermined temperature. The urging force of the urging plate when the temperature reaches the predetermined temperature is set to be greater than the urging force of the valve opening spring in a state where the electromagnetic actuator is not energized.

A control valve (CV) is located in a variable displacement compressor incorporated in a refrigerant circuit. The control valve (CV) controls the displacement of the compressor in accordance with a pressure difference between a first pressure monitoring point (P1) and a second pressure monitoring point (P2), which are located in the refrigerant circuit, such that the pressure-difference seeks a predetermined target value. An adjusting valve (39), which is a variable throttle valve, is located in a section of the refrigerant circuit between the first and second pressure monitoring points (P1, P2). The adjusting valve (39) adjusts the restriction amount of the refrigerant in relation to the refrigerant flow in the refrigerant circuit. The compressor displacement is thus optimally controlled.

In a compression capacity control device for a refrigeration cycle including a variable displacement compressor (10) that compresses refrigerant sucked from a suction chamber (3) communicating with a suction line (1), and discharges the refrigerant into a discharge chamber (4) communicating with a discharge line (2), while varying the delivery quantity of the refrigerant by changing pressure in a pressure-regulating chamber (12) which has the pressure therein controlled by an electromagnetic control valve (20), the electromagnetic control valve (20) arranged between the discharge chamber (4) and the pressure-regulating chamber (12) is held in an open state to place the variable displacement compressor (10) in a state with the minimum delivery quantity within a variable range, when the electromagnetic control valve (20) is in a deenergized state. This makes it possible to dispense with a clutch for inhibiting operation of the compressor, thereby largely reducing the device cost.

A compressor having an oil separator at a shell portion of a housing of the compressor. The oil separator is constructed by a front part 61 integral to a front housing 11 and a rear part 62 integral to a cylinder block 12. The oil separator has an oil separation chamber 1 formed between the front and the rear parts 61 and 62. The oil separator is formed integrally with oil separating passageway forming plates 67 and 68 which partially divide the separation chamber 63 to create a serpentine shaped passageway 66 which extends from an inlet 64a to an outlet 65 of the separation chamber. The passageway 66 is in communication with the crank chamber 15 via a oil return passageway 69 at a location adjacent its outlet.

A first bleeding passage 50 configured to allow a crank chamber 2 and a suction chamber 31 to constantly communicate with each other, and a second bleeding passage 60 configured to allow the crank chamber 2 and the suction chamber 31 to constantly communicate with each other are provided. The first bleeding passage 50 is made to communicate with the crank chamber 2 at least via a space (central hole space 54) defined by an insertion end portion of a shaft 7 in a central hole 12 that is formed in the center of a cylinder block 1 and into which the shaft 7 is inserted. The second bleeding passage 60 is opened in an end surface 1a of the cylinder block 1 that is opposed to a swash plate 19.
