A method of forming a wear-resistant layer on the surface of a cylinder bore within a cylinder drum of a hydrostatic axial piston machine , the method comprising gas nitrocarburizing the surface of the cylinder bore in two stages:the first stage forming an oxide layer and a diffusion layer at the surface separated by a ductile connecting layer that is comparatively thin relative to the diffusion layer, the first stage comprising gas nitrocarburizing at a comparatively low treatment temperature and a comparatively long treatment duration; andthe second stage comprising further gas nitrocarburizing while increasing the carbon content of the connecting layer by the addition of carbon donors at a comparatively high treatment temperature relative to the first stage.2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the connecting layer is formed with a thickness of 4 to 16 μm.3. At the same time at least the sliding surface (3) of the cylinder (4) is formed from the same materal, but with running surface heat-treated, or a similar material such as siliconised carbon, silicon carbide, silicon nitrite or the like with approximately the same thermal expansion behaviour as that of the piston (1). The same goes for the piston ring (5) which, moreover, with regard to its elasticity is endowed with the necessary elasticity either by design or by the choice of sufficiently elastic material. Finally the bores (12) on the piston (1) for the piston pin (13) are designed with a play in relation to the outside diameter of the piston pin (13) in such way that there is minimal play at operating temperature. <IMAGE>

The invention relates to an ink jet print head comprising a plurality of nozzles adapted to eject drops of ink through an opening towards a surface to be printed. Each nozzle has a nozzle chamber adapted for receiving ink via a conduit. The nozzle chamber is defined by a floor portion, an upwardly extending peripheral floor sidewall and a roof portion having a depending peripheral roof sidewall. The floor and roof are arranged to at least partially overlap in a telescopic manner. Each nozzle also comprises an actuator arranged to move the roof portion upwardly and downwardly relative to said floor portion so as to eject ink drops toward a surface to be printed. The distance between the telescopically overlapped sidewalls is such that when the chamber is in use and ink is located within the chamber, surface tension provides for sealing of the space between the sidewalls so as to at least reduce leakage of ink through the space.

[Problem] To provide a scroll compressor which can contribute to reduction in the entire size and the entire weight and has excellent durability and reliability, and which can use a new refrigerant to make ultrahigh speed operation possible. [Means for Resolution] In the scroll compressor, the substrate of an Oldham-coupling ring 107 is made of an aluminum alloy, and a hard DLC layer is formed on the surface of the substrate with interposition of underlayers provided for obtaining excellent adhesion and compensating for hardness so that the weight of the Oldham-coupling ring is reduced by approximately 1/3, compared with the conventional case where the Oldham-coupling ring is made of an iron-based material. Adhesive wear between sliding members are prevented so that improvement in abrasion resistance and reduction in friction coefficient are achieved. As a result, the inertial mass of a rotation system is reduced. Furthermore, an orbiting scroll 101 also has the same material structure so that the eccentric mass of the rotation system is reduced. Thus, the torque load of a motor 100 can be reduced as sufficiently as possible to thereby contribute to reduction in the entire size and the entire weight to obtain excellent durability and reliability. In addition, the scroll compressor can use a new refrigerant to make ultrahigh speed operation possible so that compressing performance equivalent to the case where chlorofluorocarbon is used can be obtained.

The grooved shaft for a magnetic-drive centrifugal pump preferably has an axial groove with a semi-elliptical or U-shaped groove cross section. Adjoining the axial groove is a flat area which is tapered tangentially relative to a substantially cylindrical shaft area. The grooved shaft optimally has a front shaft radius and a rear shaft radius, wherein the front shaft radius is smaller than the rear shaft radius such that the front shaft radius may be oriented near an impeller intake to decrease hydraulic flow resistance. Meanwhile, the rear shaft radius provides increased axial and radial load capacity for the grooved shaft. In practice, the grooved shaft is incorporated into a magnetic-drive centrifugal pump and the groove is statically oriented in a position of minimal radial loading. In the centrifugal pump, the grooved shaft forms an immobile channel for the internal circulation of pumped fluid about the product-lubricated wearing surfaces so the grooved shaft and an associated bearing are amply lubricated or cooled.

The scroll compressor can be operated at an ultrahigh speed by applying a new refrigerant to the scroll compressor. In the scroll compressor, the substrate of an Oldham's ring (107) is composed of an aluminum alloy, and a hard DLC layer is formed on the surface of the substrate via foundation layers which have an excellent adhesiveness and compensate for the hardness and, accordingly, the weight of the Oldham's ring is reduced by approximately 1/3, and the adhesion and abrasion between sliding members are prevented to improve the abrasion resistance and reduce the friction coefficient and, additionally, the inertia mass of a rotation system is reduced. Furthermore, a rotary scroll (101) has a material structure similar to the structure of the Oldham's ring and, accordingly, the eccentric mass of a rotation system is reduced. Thus, the torque load of a motor (100) can be extremely reduced, the entire size and weight can be reduced, and the durability and reliability are excellent. The scroll compressor can be operated at a ultrahigh speed by applying a new refrigerant to the scroll compressor, and the compression performance similar to that obtained when chlorofluorocarbon is used can be obtained.

The same goes for the piston ring (5) which, moreover, with regard to its elasticity is endowed with the necessary elasticity either by design or by the choice of sufficiently elastic material.
