As the shaft 13 rotates the nut 16 traverses the shaft until an arm 17 on the nut 16 engages one or other of two stops 51, 52 adjustably mounted on a rod 48. This engagement displaces the rod 48 which in turn pivots the lever 44 and returns it to the neutral position, thereby stopping the motor. The valve 19 is preferably a spool valve spring urged towards it neutral position or having detents for holding it in either actuated position. A remotely controlled piston and cylinder actuator for powered operation of the valve is provided. A pointer (55), 56 is carried by the nut 16 to provide an indication of the position of the device. The motor is of the reversible rotary type and drives the shaft 13 through a speed reduction gear-box 12, the shaft 13 being coupled to the device through a further reduction gear-box (not shown). A bar 63 on the nut is used to displace a follower controlling a fluid or electrical remote indicator.
