According to example configurations, a modified screw head includes one or more slots or grooved channels. A screwdriver device includes a tip that can be inserted into a cavity in the head of the screw to torque the modified screw into an object. The screwdriver device includes a sleeve. The sleeve slides along a shaft of the screwdriver. The sleeve includes inward protruding posts (e.g., pins, fingers, etc.). Sliding of the sleeve over the screw's head requires that inward protruding posts in the sleeve be aligned with the grooves on the sidewall of the screw's head. Subsequent to aligning and sliding the sleeve into the grooved channels of the screw's head, the user twists the sleeve to secure the screw head to the screwdriver's tip. The sleeve can be spring-loaded to pull the head of the screw toward a handle end of the screwdriver after a user releases the sleeve. 1. A Belleville reaction washer flattens out while being fully loaded such that its bottom serrations initially contact and bite with their peripheral ends only. Thereby washer slippage is circumvented as the maximum distance to the washer axis offsets eventual increased thread friction and eventual presence of lubricants or paint on the base surface. During washer flattening, the bottom serrations extend their bite radially inward and underneath the nut or bolt head. The Belleville spring action may secure the nut or bolt head on top against inadvertent loosening. In addition, a dual washer stack may include a conical ramp interface for a low overall height and lock washer functionality. Radial torque receive faces remain in plane during washer flattening and receive the torque substantially free of radial force components. A radially slim reaction socket interface may thus be tapered down around them without need for continuous circumferential structural support.

An actuation and reaction socket tool features a reaction coupling that is slid onto the spline flange of a power torque wrench prior to attaching the actuation socket on the drive shaft of the torque wrench and prior to securing it with a well-known safety pin. The reaction coupling is then coupled to the reaction socket via circumferentially arrayed and interlocking castles on both the reaction coupling and reaction socket. A lock plate spring loaded snaps into grooves on the inside of the castles and axially locks the reaction coupling with the reaction socket. At least one of the reaction coupling and reaction socket is axially withheld by the central actuation socket such that the entire tool system remains connected to the torque wrench. The anchor body further including an integral friction segment and an adhesion segment. The friction segment includes an internally threaded cavity in which to receive the screw member and a knurled portion. The adhesion segment includes a cylindrical section and a plurality of saucer-shaped buttons positioned along its length ending with a terminal button. The buttons on the adhesion segment provide greater surface area for contact between the adhesive and the anchor. The friction segment has an external diameter substantially the same as the diameter of the hole drilled in the substrate, thereby providing a friction fit between the anchor body and the walls of the substrate hole. The external diameter of the adhesion segment is smaller than the external diameter of the friction segment so that when the anchor body is inserted into the hole in the substrate, there is space between the adhesion segment and the walls of the hole which is completely filled by adhesive so as to securely bond the anchor body with the substrate. The friction fit of the friction segment maintains the adhesion segment of the anchor body a proper distance from the bottom of the substrate hole and provides for light-duty loading of the anchor while the adhesive cures.

Hollow metal screw and its manufacturing method

Tamper-resistant fastener and method and tool for use with same

A fastener includes a round, blind hole or pocket in its head. Installation and removal of the fastener is accomplished with a tool containing an eccentric segment on the end of a shaft. When rotated within the pocket, the eccentric segment displaces laterally relative to the shaft to provide a friction grip to the lateral wall of the pocket. The strength of the grip is proportional to the applied torque. Eccentric displacement allows rotation but prevents the tool from spinning out of the fastener thereby eliminating cam-out and surface damage resulting from contact with a spinning tool tip. The eccentric head of the tool can be made disposable and to shear off when a predetermined torque is reached. The smooth-sided round hole offers no purchase for commonly available tools; making the fastener tamper-resistance. In another embodiment, the fastener includes a raised portion in the pocket. A tool having a complementary opening shears off the raised portion at a predetermined torque.

The anti-theft nut or bolt is for a vehicle wheel and requires the use of a special security key for each vehicle. A conical bowl part is placed over the nut (2A, 2B) to prevent damage to alloy or plastic wheels. A decorative cap (3) covers the nut or bolt after the wheel has been secured. The nut (1) requires a special type of "C" spanner. This is shaped so as to fit accurately different shaped recesses (D1-D4) spaced at different distances around the periphery of the nut. The upper surface of the nut is also conical, to add to security.

The nut (EC) has an internal housing provided with an internal threading for screwing a screw. An upper screwing part (P2) is provided with a rotation driving unit (ME) and secured to a base plate (P1) i.e. hemispherical base plate, via a connection to yield torque greater than a threshold, where the base plate is placed on an external face (FE1). Angularly shifted three-dimensional cooperation elements i.e. grooves, are connected to corresponding three-dimensional cooperation elements of a tool for unscrewing the base plate. An independent claim is also included for a tool for unscrewing a base plate of a self-breakable nut comprising an unscrewing head.

The anti-theft shield is used on a vehicle wheel nuts, comprising an adaptor (1) which is fixed onto the nut. The bottom (1b) of the adaptor incorporates blind holes (1e) engageable by pins (6) projecting from a special drive spanner (2), the number of holes equalling the number of pins. The geometrical layout of the holes matches that of the pins and can have equal or unequal hole spacings, together with angular or radial offsetting. The holes are set inside a collar (1g) to deny thieves access to the holes. The central area (1h) of the bottom surface may be raised by a nominal bevel, the tool head being locally recessed (2d) to accommodate the raised area with clearance.

The anti-theft device comprises a nut (3) operable only by a special driver (8). This driver may be turned by a spanner acting on the bolt head (9), to drive the nut by means of pegs (6) fitting into corresponding holes (5). The nut, with a cylindrical body, is tightened on the thread (2) to hold the wheel or item (4) against the seating surface (1). The pegs and holes are arranged in a pattern unique to the particular driver and nut set. A cup (10) is a loose fit around the neck of the nut, and prevents the use of any form of grips or pliers to turn the nut. A metal or plastics trim may be fitted over the mouth of the cup.
