In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the two frictional members. 1, 2 are of circular section and are clamped between the plate 8 having annular grooves and the outer plates 3, 9 which are secured against relative rotation. A nut 17 and a spring washer 18, having short radial grooves, exert an adjustable pressure on the friction members. The intermediate plate 8 is integral with one operating arm 7 connected to the frame of a vehicle by a ball joint 24, 25 and a link. A vehicle interior component with an improved torque hinge is provided. The vehicle interior component may comprise a base and a cover configured to move relative to the base. The torque hinge may be coupled to the base and the cover and configured to hold the cover in any position relative to the base. The torque hinge may comprise a bushing, a brake, a clamp and a fastener configured to provide a clamping force between the clamp and brake. The bushing may be configured to move with the cover as the cover moves relative to the base to provide a frictional force against the brake. The clamp may be manufactured by an extrusion process. The clamp may comprise a curved portion and first and second extension portions extending from the curved portion. The first and second extension portions of the clamp may be substantially parallel. 1. A component for a vehicle interior comprising:(a) a base;(b) a cover configured to move relative to the base;(c) a torque hinge coupled to the base configured to hold the cover in a first position relative to the base and a second position relative to the base; and(d) a shaft configured to couple the torque hinge to the cover;wherein the torque hinge comprises a bushing configured to move with the cover as the cover moves relative to the base to provide friction between the shaft and the bushing;wherein the torque hinge further comprises a clamp, a brake and a fastener, wherein the fastener is configured to provide a clamping force to the clamp and the brake.2. A friction damping cast component and method of production are disclosed. The components may be rotary, such as a cast brake rotor, or may be non-rotary, such as a cast suspension part or a cast engine block. Regardless of the type of component, a two-part vibration-damping insert having a thin metal core and a thin metal sheath is provided. The sheath fully encompasses the core in such a way that a dry sliding friction contact develops at their interfaces. The outer surface of the sheath with the metal core inside is rigidly bonded to the cast material that surrounds it during the casting process. The sheath surfaces may have a number of openings that allow a limited infiltration of molten cast iron material just inside the immediate vicinity of the sheath openings for spot rigid bonding between the surrounding cast material and the insert surfaces during casting. 1. Vibration-dampers having outside and inside shells with interposed friction elements are provided with similarly-shaped additional external shells and corresponding friction elements which in action may lag behind the original elements. The ordinary outside shells 3, 4, Fig. 1, and inside shells 1, 2 are separated by friction elements 5 and are formed with arms A, B. The additional external shells 20, 20<a> are separated from the shells 3, 4 by additional friction elements 21, 21a, and are provided with arms 22, 22<a>, which may be connected to the arm A by means allowing limited or spring-controlled movement, so that the additional friction elements do not come into action until some movement has already taken place. The inner elements 1, 2 are pressed apart by a helical spring. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprise also in connection with the ball 7, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), and nut 10 the provision of spherical or like surfaces bearing on washers 8<c>, 11<c> which are recessed at 8<d>. The holes in the shells are also larger than the bolts so that relative movement in various directions of the two arms may take place. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.

Disclosed is a vibration damping apparatus incorporated in the crossing of diagonal members such as braces of a framed structure for damping vibration imparted by external force such as an earthquake or a strong wind. The apparatus comprises a plurality of rotatable members or discs, a resistive body disposed between the discs, and a pair or pairs of link bars causing relative rotation of the discs in response to the impartation of the external force, whereby the vibration is damped by the resistance force of the resistive body resisting to the external force.

Vibration-dampers. - In a vehicle recoil-preventing apparatus in which a strap is wrapped several times around two relatively movable members with a compression spring between them, means are provided for taking in the slack of the strap during downward movement of the vehicle frame before the compression spring operates, during downward movement and an additional strap encircling the relatively movable members and secured to one of them is also provided. The strap D, Figs. 1 and 3, is connected at one end to the axle 3 and is wrapped several times around a member A fixed to the frame 1 and a member C slidable towards and away from the member A. A spring 11 tends to separate these members in opposition to the strap D. A steel strip F of less curvature than the outer convolution of the strap is attached thereto by rivets 17 and serves to take up the slack of the strap when the frame 1 approaches the axle 3, as shown in Fig. 3, and also reduces the friction between the different turns and so assists the separation of the members A, C. The inner end of the strap D is secured by rivets 13 to a strip of metal 12, preferably brass, interposed between several of the inner turns of the strap. The end of this strip 12 is hooked to engage the end of the fixed member A and is also connected by rivets E' to an additional strap E which extends round both the fixed and the movable members A, C.
